Just as the topic title states, Sony is in trouble. Why? Because Sony themselves have swayed me to the 360 this generation. ME of all people, a cow since as long as I can remember (when the PSX released). And believe me, it wasn't Microsoft who swayed me. It wasn't Bioshock. It wasn't Gears. It wasn't any of that. It's been Sony's own actions that have caused me to lose faith and abandon my cow brethern and run to the lemming pack. Make no mistake though, I'm not a lemming. Far from it actually. I point out Microsoft's faults as well, they don't get a free pass when it comes to the plethora of issues such as hardware problems, tons of microtransations, not enough actual EXCLUSIVE titles that aren't on the PC.

But what really upsets me is that Sony built a console with almost NOTHING going for it when it comes to appealing to developers save for the Blu-Ray disc capacity. And even that can be a problem considering the fact that it's accompanied by longer load times.

Think about it...

-Cell/RSX's complex and unorthodox architecture require refined coding techniques that developers have to LEARN while Microsoft has provided architecture that works similar to a PC allowing games to be made easier. This results in longer loading times and higher production costs

-Sony has priced their product MUCH higher than the competition (in fact, you can buy an Xbox 360 and Wii for less than a PS3). This means less people will be able to afford the games even if they have a PS3 and will be wary on which ones to choose.

-Sony's install base is the lowest of all the next-gen consoles meaning the greatest chance of floppage sales wise results in money lost.

I think some people have forgotten that the gaming industry, like everything else, is about making MONEY. Developers aren't busting their asses for years to make a great game for you to play and that's it, they want it to sell boat loads.

Why would a developer want to take such financial risk and pick the worst candidate (in their eyes) to make exclusive games for? Maybe this is why so many multiplat games are being delayed on the PS3 or outright canned altogether? Maybe this is why Sony has lost so much exclusivity?

Financially, it makes sense when you put yourself in the shoes of the developer and we as gamers benefit from developers' trust and faith in a console. Every gaming system is only as good as the games that are on it and developers are the people who make the games. Developers ultimately dictate whether a console falls flat on its face or succeedes and at this point, Sony has done just about every possible to make developers LOSE faith in them.

I can go on and on but I'm just so disappointed at this point. The PS3 really has potential, however, slowly but surely it seems that the potential will never fully be utilized. Hopefully Sony can pull through.

I have had hundreds of hours of great playtime on the 360 and hope in the future PS3 can match it.

It has a nice lineup in the future, but it has gotten off to a rocky start. I think Sony is worried that if they lower the price of the PS3 too much, PS2 sales will suffer. And they're probably right.

Having said that, they'll need to drop the PS3 price considerably in 2008, because there is a plethora of standout titles arriving next year for the system, so it's going to be a big year, and I think everyone will change their opinions on Sony fairly quickly.

I love my Xbox and 360. But I want a PS3 very badly, especially with LittleBigPlanet coming up. That game looks superb in every way.

I really like both. Im not a pc gamer so for me GEARs and Halo3 are 360 exclusive. And im going to renew my gold membership once Halo3 comes out. The only thing I don't like about the 360 is that it's so noisy and unreliable. But I also like the PS3 because of its upcoming lineup, bluray/DVD player and really well made system overall. Resistance and Warhawk are also a lot of fun to play.

Yup I lost my faith in Sony and the PS3 way way before this. Getting the 360 and Wii was the best choice I could of have made I have no regrets on not getting a PS3 and waiting for its "amazing" games to come out.

I don't think it's worth the money yet either. Why I don't own one.

Having said that, there's too many good looking titles coming in the future to pass up.

First, don't call me a lemming, it upsets me.

Second, you guys always say this... years ago, when 360 launched, you said "wait for PS3, it's going to destory 360"

Then after that flop, you said "Wait for E3, Sony will strike back."

Then after that flop, you then said "Wait for TGS, Sony will win."

Then after that flop, you said "Wait for Resistance, Halo Killer."

Then after that flop, you said "Wait for Motorstorm, will sell millions."

Then after thta flop, you said "Wait for Lair, Gears Killer."

Then after that flop, now you say "Wait for '08"

Do you see the pattern?

At least it has games this generation so far. The Playstation brand has the PS2 holding it up at this stage. I am helping your side. Don't make this a me vs you thing when I am on your side.

in 1year I enjoyed Resistance, Warhawk and awesome Bluray movies. So to me it's not a failure. On the 360 I only really got into Gears and soon Halo3 so that's not a failure to me either. For my personal tastes they are equal in terms of games eventhough the 360 has been out longer.

HermitCommando

So then basically, wait for 08'?

Wait for E3

Wait for Lair

Wait for 08

Wait for MGS

Wait for Heavenly Sword

Wait, Wait, Wait... Flop, Flop, Flop.

when they come you will be singing a different tune. this is just too funny to me. next year the tides will turn and there will be alot less lemmings around.

Do you see the pattern?

....

sony had an amazing e3 best of the 3...

tgs will be more of the same as they will have 40 playable games and 50 new trailers.

motorstorm and resistance did sale millions two best selling ps3 games right now.

only reason we said wait until 08 was because all the big games that we thought were coming this year got pushed back like gta 4, mgs 4, and ffxiii. do you see the problem with your post?

After a full year, it's no longer called "having a rocky start"... It's called a good portion of this system's life being a waste of consumer money.

if we were at that point this comment would be valid.

So you are saying with the actual amount of months it's what? 75%- 80% valid?

But what really upsets me is that Soy built a console with almost NOTHING going for it when it comes to appealing to developers save for the Blu-Ray disc capacity.

-Sony has priced their product MUCH higher than the competition (in fact, you can buy an Xbox 360 and Wii for less than a PS3).

-Sony's install base is the lowest of all the next-gen consoles

Who had the best E3?

Edit* and I dont even feel like linking the combined sales of Motorstorm and Rfom but believe me it's no millions, combined they are around 1.2 or 1.3M.

Sony doesn't give a **** about gaming, they just want peopl to buy blu-ray players. The use of the Cell processor is stone proof of what Sony had in mind this generation.
