Or, if you actually have something positive to say, I would like to hear that too. Usually I don't care about these updates as they often add functionality and may even look cooler. This update is so terrible, I want to remove it and and use the old one. Is that even possible?

-I'll start on a positive note, the integration of the kinect is really cool... until you use it. On a side note, am I the only one that notices the xbox struggles when the kinect is plugged in?

-I love the new advertisment window right when I turn on my xbox!

-It is awesome that the bing bar does not search the internet, at all; or work with voice commands.

-When I use Netflix, it takes almost twice as long to load now. Also, when I select a TV series it starts playing the first episode while I try and choose the one I want to watch.

-Now, when I stream videos from my computer, I can't watch them in their original size. Now I have to choose between letterbox widescreen and stretch. The original size choice is gone.

I have only been using the new dashboard for about 15 minutes. I'll be back on the forums to add more things I love about the update soon. What do you Gamespotters think?

yeah, cloud storage aside (which is actually pretty nice), this update is just plain awful. Why the hell are we paying for xbl when they're running ads all over the place now. they didnt back when it was the blades dashboard so the fee made sense. This is just taking advantage

I think that the new dash is well organized and I don't have any major complaints except, I hate the new Netflix layout, it is absolutely awful. And it's cluttered with a lot of things that I don't care about, like advertisments.

I have no complaints, although I don't use Netflix (Apple TV for that) and I don't stream from my PC (TV and Apple TV do that), and I don't own a Kinect. I like the new layout, the ads are a bit less intrusive (about half the size that they used to be) and I can see the entire contents of what used to be a row on screen at once, which is great. It also just looks cleaner. And the blades in the Guide menu work just as they did before, which is fine as that's what I use to access most of my stuff anyway and they were perfectly functional.

I am still on the fence about cloud storage and I probably will be for years. I love the ease of use and ability to not have a physical storage device. My only concern is when I don't have access to the internet and I want to play a game. If I don't have a physical storage device with the game on it then I am S.O.L. For now I will always keep a backup. It really is cool though,to have cloud storage.

I definitely agree with the last part of your statement. Thankfully, the guide is almost the same as before, so when I was getting lost and struggling, I just pressed the middle 'x' button and immediately went to my happy place.

FYI, you don't need to be online to use Cloud Storage locally. It works as same as WL Mesh. You only need to be online before you go to your friend's house, to make sure you saves are uploaded.

My point is that if my friend doesn't have internet access then we can't get my saves. If my internet access goes out(it happens often) and I want to play, I can't access the my game saves unless they are backed up physically.

Maybe I am confused about something to do with the cloud, but I think I got it.

Yes, you missed the point. Cloud Storage is just like your HDD, they are physicallylocated in your HDD. When you are not online, everything is in your HDD's folder called Cloud, and that's it. When you are online, your files under your HDD's Cloud folder will be uploaded (extra copy)to the servers. But, you always have the original copy in your HDD.

magicalclick
If that's true, that's awesome. I got a different impression from Major Nelson's awful Cloud explanation video, though - he explained it as if it were basically just an online USB drive.

Thanks for the explanation. So, if I save to the cloud, it doesn't matter if I have access to the internet, there is a physical site on my HDD that the save is on(that seems counter-intuitive since the point of the cloud is not taking up space on your HDD). Even if I don't back it up. Is that what you are saying? It would still seem that if I went to a friends house that didn't have internet that day, there is no way to access my game saves though, right?

Edit- it looks like, your edit partially answered my new post

Xbox does not have a web browser, so that's the point to access WWW when you cannot visit the website? You can Xbox Bing Halo. There should be like Xboxt Sort or Xbox Flip To Right, I haven't try those yet.

I know it doesn't have a web browser, which is why I said it. If the dashboard was easy to use there would be no need for the bing bar. It's just pointless, thus my jab at it not working on the internet. I thought it was funny, but I guess I was wrong.

I've already said this, but the lack of sorting in the my games section is bothering me immensely. I want to be able to separate my arcade games, indie games, full games, demos, and installs. I don't like them being in just one long list. This is the only serious complaint I have (besides the Netflix app being pretty bad, but my happiness that they finally added subtitles overshadows this).

It just sucks. The whole layout and every thing. Not being able to sort my games and ish. I wish we could chose between the old blades and this new stuff cause their new UI's suck.

it's a big update... there will be issues. it is not cutting anyone's gaming 100%. few disconnects but 5 secs later sign back in. Issues should be fixed in the coming days... bing is work with voice. say xbox bing w/e. netflix just got more confusing... i can't stand when you on a movie title 2 secs later THE MOST random pic pops up in it' place

Yeah, I was disconnected almost all day yesterday and half of today. I won't fault M$ for that though as we are getting a huge free update. It looks as if it will definitely growsince they have so many apps and cross-platforming with Windows7. I just hope the architecture is set up so we can easily find multiple different things on the xbox. Right now it feels like a huge step backwards. I know the bing bar should work but for whatever reason it's not doing anything I have said, so I am giving up on it for now. Netflix is really a bother right now.

My only real complaint is the the prohibiting of class action lawsuits we had to agree to in the TOS. If you didn't read it, or aren't familiar w/it here's an article from IGN detailing the issue. .. . .LINK . . . .

The game in the disk tray is not on the games tab. wut. Instead it is on the home page, in a tiny box in the corner which is hard to select. The main item on the main screen is a massive advert 4 times the size of the actual 360 function boxes. I didn't care about ads on NXE because they were at the back, but now they have actually been put in front of my games. They are in my way, and on a service I pay for I cannot stand for this. Gold members should be able to disable all ads.

Agreed I think its super clunky. I was trying to work my way to games but kept going down and over it was weird. I guess we'll get used to it like you said. and the X button is still the best thing ever lol.

Thanks for pointing that out. It is really awful that big companies are getting away with that. I wonder if they can really uphold that in a court of law... who am I kidding this is a company that beat the U.S. to its knees in an antitrust lawsuit. Xbox's marketplace feels a bit like the TOS in that there are no refunds. Ever.
And I have seen a lot of hiccups in the system. More than once I turned on my TV to see that I have almost purchased something because I left the Xbox on and didn't realizemy dog was touching the controller. I have also had the menu suddenly jump through a few options because it was having trouble processing and that took me directly to a purchase. It's their way or the highway and we all really want to play our games.

Speaking of games, shouldn't the very first option on the menu be games? Not bing. Not home. Not social. Not video. Games should be the first thing listed, and include the game that's in the tray, like Overlord93 wrote.

my only complaint is with netflix and how you have to start watching something before you can choose between the different episodes which is quite dumb and makes it take longer to get to what you want to see for no reason. Other than that though i have no complaints.

GOOD THINGS: (1) XBLA games now have a nice big poster in the games section, however... SEE BAD THINGS 1 & 2 (2) the game marketplace improved, there's now a filtered section for full price retail game downloads, indie games, XBLA games, and Xbox Originals, in the prior GUI they started mixing these all together, making it more of a hassle to search between XBLA games and full retail game downloads BAD THINGS: (1) large XBLA game pictures make it take longer to surf games, and when you're like me with nearly 100 XBLA games it can take longer than I'd like to get to games more toward the Z side of the alphabetization (2) the list of large icons is aesthetically unpleasing when you run across the few games that weren't given full size pictures for the list (3) the external DVD drive which I use to watch movies from while games are loaded in the Xbox 360 main drive is now located in the video option behind the Apps section, it's much more time consuming to get to and quite honestly should have been a tab next to the game play icon or at least on that page (4) the last GUI made it easy to install and delete games from the HDD, installation in both these GUIs is easy but deletion of installed disc games on the current GUI is more difficult, for someone like me that has like 100 XBLA games it takes a bit of hunting to find the installed games and clear them to make room for other disc installs, the previous GUI had a filter option to view only XBLA games, indie games, demos, and Xbox 360 games, the current GUI doesn't allow one to filter just the Xbox 360 games making it more difficult to delete ones installed on the HDD (5) there still isn't an improved download history to hunt down owned games, like the previous download history section in the last dashboard the current one takes you through a chronological list of EVERYTHING you've downloaded, be it game demos, those userpic downloads that enter you into contests, game videos, etc... this of course is a continuing flaw from the previous dashboards and GUIs (6) this dashboard was clearly designed for Kinect in mind, I don't have Kinect yet and plan on getting one eventually but I think I should have a different GUI when using a controller and another when using Kinect (7) this dashboard is kind of ugly (8) I'm pretty neutral to advertisements but for this GUI I feel it takes up to much valuable space in each tab and I find myself having to navigate more because of them NEUTRAL: (1) cloud saves, I don't really see the point in many ways since one needs access to their profile to play that saved game, in many ways it's too compromising to recover your gamertag from a remote location only to use the cloud service to access a game save, it can pose too much risk to the user to compromise their account and their credit card that's attached to it, furthermore if one were to use something like a flash drive for their gamertag then they can also save their game saves on that as well, then again many games have some small amount of DLC in them even if it's for small novelty items and if you save a game on the original console then their could be issues of using these cloud saves or even flash drive saves if the DLC isn't present... anyhow, I'm not against cloud saves entirely, I just think they could cause trouble, but they can benefit those who really know how to use them I guess, so I take a neutral stance on them

I'll just post what I said in the other Update thread.

Honestly, I love it.

Let me preface that a little bit by saying I have a Windows Phone 7 and a Kinect, this update added full integration both voice and gesture control with every app and everything on the dashboard for kinect. I have been waiting for that for a long time and it works flawlessly, voice control is fast and seamless.

As far as the Windows Phone aspect, they added a Xbox Companion app to the WP7 marketplace that allows you to control your xbox, hulu/netflix, etc.. allows you to fast launch games and apps, use the bing search, purchase and start downloads, when you're watching a show or movie you can quickly pull up a synopsis/cast, and all other movies the cast members have been in. All in all very cool stuff.

I also really like the beacons, and the Metro UI is good looking to me.

Couldn't find the Indie games section... on one menu the larger window displayed "Indie Games" but when I selected that option it took me to the new Arcade game screen.

Definitely not a fan. I hate the layout, I hate that the important functions get tiny windows that are 25% the size of the giant advertising windows that dominate dashboard space, and I hate the slow speed with which it populates all of its windows.

I can't speak as to the usefulness of the apps or cloud saving because I don't have a Gold Membership. All in all, I still prefer the original "blades".

I'm good with the new update. I like the way the store browses better now. I hated the way the last update worked with the store. If I am looking to buy an add on or even an avatar prop. I want to see what the add on looks like. The new update seems to be more organized and cleaner looking.

I do think cloud storage should be available to all Xbox owners, not just Gold members. It would be a nice selling point for Xbox for sure.

Issues should be fixed in the coming days... bing is work with voice. say xbox bing w/e. netflix just got more confusing... i can't stand when you on a movie title 2 secs later THE MOST random pic pops up in it' placek2theswiss

Netflix is really a bother right now.

free update? xbox live has $60 price tag a year... now if u know how do it that price can easily be cut in half through amazon or so

Point taken. The update isn't free, but they are not required to do this. Although it does seem that the update has maximized Microsoft's ability to get people into the marketplace 45 new ways. It's actually hard to get around it now.

It makes netflix tougher to navigate. Other than that I have no complaints.

I don't mind the update but am confused as to where the hell are my game videos now? The only place I can find them is in Zune and have to wait 10mins for it to start up and load the game videos. So when I want to download 3 or 4 games then want to watch them straight away I have to hit the guide button and go to active downloads and press the A button on the game video downloading from marketplace and wait for it to finish downloading then select play now. STUPID. You used to be able to go to my games, go to the next tab on the right and go down to videos and watch them straight away as soon as they were downloaded. Zune sucks and is very time consuming.
