 Why would you post in this old thread? Because it is here and apparently still of interest to some people. Some subjeccts die hard.Call of Duty 4 came out a few weeks after Halo 3, and it's outselling Halo by approximately 4 million copies so far. Man, I remember the weeks before Call of Duty 4's release. All these Halo fans were yelling, "Call of Duty will never be as popular as Halo! Call of Duty will never sell as many copies as Halo!". BTW, Halo is probably one of the game franchises I that I hate most. Not only are the graphics some of the worst I've ever seen, the gameplay flat and mediocre, I feel like I'm a floating pair of hands. Besides that, the guns are just not fun to use, given the fact that they seem to have no weight or recoil. The only time I feel like I'm doing any damage is when I melee something. Otherwise, I feel like I might as well be throwing pebbles. But the real reason I hate it is all of these blind fanboys it has. They bought it because their friends have it. They bought it because it was on TV. It's good because my friends say it's good. It's good because the CG commercial on TV was cool. Also, for those in the audience who are fans of the Halo series, let me just point out that this is coming out of my mouth. That makes this my opinion. I usually don't label what I say as my opinion, but I figured I might have angered some people and needed to remind them.Yeah dude, I agree with you, I mean since it came out, or should I say since the year it came out, even the FPS that were already out, Halo 3 out sold like all of them I think, and is STILL one of the most loved online games to this day

Theres many valid reasons to why people dont like halo and here are mine: 1. only american online servers so almost everyone else lags because american connections are have dreadful upload 2. gameplay is so basic any noob can play it successfully 3. the characters are averaged and are cliche's of characters from movies, eg sgt johson is a replica of sgt apone from aliens 4. story is weak and should have been done better 5. graphics are quite average 6. multiplayer maps are lame 7. the story is too jumpy, they could have fit like another 5 levels in it 8. it sparked gears of war, how mainstream can you get 9. lack of originality, basically copied aliens and starship troopers 10. and finally the game is just far too mainstream Well that sums up halo, it still is quite fun to play, but there are much much better games.Maybe it will end up being GoTY. Afterall 300+ million of you bought the damn game.....

Graphics, although average, are still colorful and great looking for a 2007 game. 6. Multiplayer maps are FUN; which is why Halo 3 consistently has kept the number 1 spot on Xbox Live for MP (not sure if it has the last month though). 7. I'm not sure what "jumpy" means, but I'll agree that it should've been longer, which is why I'm happy for Halo 3:ODST; we will get more answers. 8. Sparked gears of war? please. 9. Thanks.
Halo 3 and COD both are great games, no question about it, I enjoyed it both, playing online is much fun in both games. So Halo fanboys, stop bashing COD and COD fanboys, stop bashing Halo. Its true that Halo was overrated, but its no difference with COD4, but still its alright since both games are fun to play.

But, just for fun, I'm going to unleash my inner Call of Duty fanboy in the following paragraph. Call of Duty 4 is the best-selling FPS ever made. That is, it has sold more copies than any other FPS in history. It's ugly twin brother, Call of Duty: World at War, which was released only last November, has sold 9 million copies, without counting PC sales. When Modern Warfare 2 is released, I'm quite certain it will take Call of Duty 4's place as the best-selling FPS of all time. And another thing. Those that wanted to play Halo 3 and didn't have an Xbox 360 bought one at release or close to release. Making the game multiplatform would have made almost no difference, since very few Wii or PS3 owners are interested in the game.[QUOTE="Making_Pudding"][QUOTE="Trogeton"]

No for americans it does not lag because the only servers are in american so they pull host so almost everyone else lags, if you dont find it basic i feel sorry for you, im not complaining about characters from movies, its kool, but it adds to lacking originality, gears of war is the noobiest of noob, its so funny how waist high walls flood the game, and yes aliens is refered to by most games even cod4.Thanks for bumping this topic, whoever did it. Great work.
I think this post is the biggest collection of generic non-reasoning in the thread, so I'm going to take it to task:
Theres many valid reasons to why people dont like halo and here are mine:
KorruptRaiden
That's all fine, minus the "valid" part.
2. gameplay is so basic any noob can play it successfully
KorruptRaiden
What's wrong with that? Why does every game need to have a Byzantine level of complexity in order to be a good experience? This is the same sort of elitist attitude that some people have about all shooters. Just give me a shooter you do like, and I'll tell you it's a bad game, because it's not as easy to pick up and play as Europa Universalis. What does that prove?
Now, your comment only makes any sense if you're talking about single-player, albeit in a condescending sort of way. If you're talking about multiplayer, then you're just dead wrong. Obviously gamers new to shooters are not immediately successful when they step into deathmatch, as evidenced by the wide variations in most any scoreboard.
3. the characters are averaged and are cliche's of characters from movies, eg sgt johson is a replica of sgt apone from aliens
4. story is weak and should have been done better
7. the story is too jumpy, they could have fit like another 5 levels in it
9. lack of originality, basically copied aliens and starship troopers
KorruptRaiden
This is the most canned, generic criticism you can possibly give to any game. "The story sucked." I'm sure you're quite the drama critic. Why don't you tell us how the story should have gone, and how that would have made the game better? If that's too grand a challenge for you, why don't you point to any specific element in the story that you didn't like. That goes for most of your "reasons" here. In general, these are so generic, that minus your reference to Sgt. Johnson and the sever-lag issue, you could be talking about most any game. Really, strike "Sgt. Johnson" from your post, and you could be bashing Gears, Quake, Half-Life or most any scifi shooter.
And what the hell does "the characters are averaged" mean?
Lack of originality? Like all your "points" here, you just post it as if it's some sort of canon, without any supporting examples, but let's assume for a minute that it is true. So...all stories must be original to be good? You must have hated Star Wars, then. Its creative inspiration was to be an amalgam of Western myth, so be definition, it's an unoriginal story. And you must have hated Aliens too, right? It's a rip-off of Starship Troopers, so it must suck too. You seem to have a fetish for non-analysis, so I'd love to see your rebuttal to this comment: About the only plot threads shared between Halo and Robert Heinlein's novel is that it's set in the future and it's about humans versus aliens. Good job, you've described most of science fiction.
5. graphics are quite average
KorruptRaiden
This is the second most-used generic gripe.
6. multiplayer maps are lame
KorruptRaiden
All of them? Have you even played all the maps? This complaint's so generic and thoughtless that I can't believe you even posted it. I know using an example to help prop up your assertions really isn't your thing, but stay with me here: Why don't you pick a level from a shooter you do like, then compare them to a couple Halo levels, pointing out the differences and demonstrating what's wrong with Halo's levels.
8. it sparked gears of war, how mainstream can you get
10. and finally the game is just far too mainstream
KorruptRaiden
Do you have any evidence that Halo was the creative inspiration for Gears? More to the point, is this supposed to be a bad thing? You're one of these people who apparently hold to the odd belief that if something is liked by a large number of people, then there must be something wrong with it, even though a normally-reasoning person would come to the opposite conclusion.
Well that sums up halo, it still is quite fun to play, but there are much much better games.
KorruptRaiden
If you had set out to write a post that was more vague and contained fewer examples, you could not possibly have done so.
Ok, well firstly, if you have played gears you will notice it was very similar to halo, last resort is the only map i could give any credit to, graphics are not superb but i could not care, the characters are the story are 'average', like master chief the show no fear, take a million bullets jack bauer in disguise, ALIENS is NOT a rip off of starship troopers, the only similarities are the marines, the xenomorph came about in alien and is the ultimate alien type, halo is part of a canon called the halo franchise, the marines have almost no purpose as they all die, aliens that live by discipline order suddenly become humans friends bah.
I must ask have you played mass effect and metal gear solid 4, they make this game look soooooooooooo average.
Also heres a nice critical, funny and true review of halo3.
I'm not sure if that was supposed to be a rebuttal or not.
Ok, well firstly, if you have played gears you will notice it was very similar to halo
KorruptRaiden
Do you not understand what the word "evidence" means? How do you know Halo was the creative inspiration for Gears? Also, how are they similar? Oh wait, I forgot; the vaguest of plot similarities make one IP a ripoff of another for you.
graphics are not superb but i could not care
KorruptRaiden
Then why'd you mention it?
the characters are the story are 'average', like master chief the show no fear, take a million bullets jack bauer in disguise
KorruptRaiden
What?
ALIENS is NOT a rip off of starship troopers, the only similarities are the marines, the xenomorph came about in alien and is the ultimate alien type
KorruptRaiden
I was going by your definition. About the only similarities between Halo and Starship Troopers were the Marines, but that's apparently enough to make one a ripoff of the other, according to you.
halo is part of a canon called the halo franchise
KorruptRaiden
No kidding. Is this statement supposed to prove a point or have any relevance to what we're discussing?
aliens that live by discipline order suddenly become humans friends bah
KorruptRaiden
No, it didn't happen suddenly; this is what most of the second game was about. Also: Is this statement supposed to prove a point or have any relevance to what we're discussing?
I must ask have you played mass effect and metal gear solid 4, they make this game look soooooooooooo average.
KorruptRaiden
Why are you grabbing games from different genres? Here, go crazy: How does Starcraft compare to Halo? What about Baldur's Gate? What about Risk? This screams, "I don't know what I'm talking about."
Also heres a nice critical, funny and true review of halo3.
KorruptRaiden
None of which adjectives describe your "review" in the slightest.
Oh, here's everything you missed or just ignored:

I just think it's hilarious that you constantly have to deconstruct people's posts in an effort to prove your point. Which, you don't even do. Because like you always do, you just argue symantics. It's like you think quoting and responding to each sentence individually will give your points some validity.
It doesn't.

Dredg11
So you don't have anything to say about Halo; you're just pestering me. Yeah, I deconstruct peoples' posts to prove my point. So what's the problem with that? Would it be better if I just did things half-ass? And accusing me of arguing semantics is just hilarious. Semantics in this context means that instead of actually arguing about an issue, a person instead debates about the way someone argues. That's what you're doing.
Taking an opinion on the topic, people do not like halo for their personal reasons, and those reasons are not to be taken as facts, its not a fact to say halo gameplay is so generic/lame/simple if it is the actual standard for control layout, halo is easy you have to shoot a million bullets to kill someone, hey you are playing as a spartan a super soldier, who has this state of the art armor with recharging shields, it makes sense to me that they can take that ammount of punishment and they have bionic implants to be fast, and strong, storywise halo is not superb but it does a nice job tellint the adventures of the main character, and his role in the covenant/unsc war, and if you say is a prettier halo 2, I dont know I didnt had xbox live to play multiplayer but I had a great experience with halo, and well everyone likes to say graphics are average at best well lets make a comparison between halo 3 and some games
I dont see any huge difference and some claim Call of duty 4 has some of the best graphics around, and finally if some say halo is the worst FPS out there obviously you are prejudging the game
Maybe it will end up being GoTY. Afterall 300+ million of you bought the damn game.....
Just thought I say what I thought about it.
So if only 20 million people currently own an xbox, that means that each owner has bought 15 copies of the game! And yeah, I think Halo 3 COULD end up winning game of the year this year even though it was released in 2007 lol.People are bashing Halo 3 because its complete crap.
It's because Bungie couldn't make a sequel to save their life.
Halo 3 is by far the worst 360 game I have ever played.
Either you havent played it, or your just completely ignorant and want attention. Halo3 wasnt exactly the greatest game ever, but i've never met anyone who doesnt like that game. In my eyes it was a pretty good game and i don't regret buying it at all. Your opinion might lower of older games after a while because of new ones, but at launch that game was king. Finally someone actually makes well thought out post "deconstructing" the idiocy of some posts on this board.
Im kinda getting bored of halo 3 since everything is now boring, as i said again. I think theirs other games that i been playing lately that i don't want to play halo 3 anymore, but it will always be one of my top 5 games for the xbox 360. I still play it though, i just went into other games lately.
Yeah, don't get me wrong. If I still had Halo 3, I might toss it in and play every week or two. But it seems like a lot of people seem to think it's the best shooter on the 360, and in my opinion, it's not even close.
But like I said...beauty of opinion. To me, Halo feels like playing an old school shooter like Doom. I like my shooters to at least have an "aim" button, to look down your sights. So games like COD and Bad Company are better than Halo, in my opinion.
There's also the idea of setting, story, etc...I'm more into real world scenarios. The closer to being a war sim, the better, in my opinion. Halo, due to its setting, and fanboy community, really gives me a dorky "Star Wars" feeling. Admittedly, I'm not really into anything Sci-Fi.
I just happen to like shooters like COD, Bad Company, or Rainbow Six a lot better than Halo.
Palantas, i dont need to provide evidence, because i know what makes games great, and whenever someone argues with me like you are, i always win, ive had this argument at least a thousand times and i always win, why, because halo is a pile of dump, it was supposed to be the greatest game ever but instead we get a game of the quality of a childrens picture book. Halo mostly pleases the inexperienced gamers from what ive seen, most who defend it have had very little 'pre 360' experience and have never played the truly great fps games like system shock 2. And if your going to tell me its only the marines relevant to aliens why dont you add the facts that the elite is a cross of an alien and predator, the flood were entirely based on the alien instinct, and it amazes me how lame the battles with the flood were, master chief is probably the lamest character ever, hes a cyborg if i am correct, which means he still has human characteristics, hence he should have at least a slight bit of emotion. 'KorruptRaidenHmmm, I think you might have a slight misundertand of the story. I personally always thought Halo would be better if it was a game set solely with you as the Covenant laying waste to the human race. I am tired of the "one soldier saves the universe" plot, let's see something where humans actually lose. I hate Halo 3, but I love Halo wars. It has a good back story behind all the games, I just wish Bungie had done more to expand on it. Either way, I don't think it's fair to say that Halo 3 is "a pile of dump". It is well executed, runs like butter, and is reasonably well balanced. In fact, it is quite a good game from every stand point except our points of view. I don't like Halo 3 you don't like Halo 3, but let's not pretend that it isn't a good game. Your tastes just don't mesh well with it, and that has nothing to do with how many games you have played or how hardcore of a gamer you are. I have played a ton of games, and IMO the mark of a true gamer is one that is able to admit that a game is fundamentally well done even if it isn't to their particular liking. Remember that gamers are a diverse and varied group of people who all share a similar hobby but like to pursue that hobby in different ways and through different games. So next time, just say you don't like it instead of embarking on an impossible argument to show the world how the best selling game in recent memory is on the same level with a "children's picture book".
[QUOTE="KorruptRaiden"]Palantas, i dont need to provide evidence, because i know what makes games great, and whenever someone argues with me like you are, i always win, ive had this argument at least a thousand times and i always win, why, because halo is a pile of dump, it was supposed to be the greatest game ever but instead we get a game of the quality of a childrens picture book. Because Halo is the kind of game that attracts immature, nerdy types, who scream into their mics. This also happens to be the demographic that most Live members fall into. It simply goes hand in hand.
Yeah Halo 3 is awesome i don't know why some people decide to say it sucks when it met almost everyones expectations! But I respect their opinions.

excuse me, I consider myself a mature gamer and team player, and I love Halo 3, and as me there are tons of guys who also like it and are maturePalantas, i dont need to provide evidence, because i know what makes games great, and whenever someone argues with me like you are, i always win

 What? Let me get this straight: You don't need to actually make an argument, because you always win. I'll pause a minute to let the absurdity of that statement sink in.
...
Do I even have to explain why this makes no sense? So far all you've done is leap from one bombastic assertion to another, in a stream-of-consciousness fashion, without supporting or even explaining most of your claims. You're becoming more worked up the longer we go here; you've gone from "the graphics are average" to "quality of a children's picture book." I'm really looking forward to the hyperbole you're going to invent for your next post.

Halo pleases all sorts of people. I've been playing shooters since the Doom shareware, 15 years ago. Surprise, surprise, I'm defending Halo. Well, I'm not so much defending Halo as attacking the utterly absurd fashion in which you criticize it. In any case, using me as a case study, your statement there is obviously dead wrong.
Let me guess: You don't need to make statements that are correct, because you always win.
Good work mentioning System Shock. Here, I'll mention old PC games to give my post an aura of authority too: Deus Ex, Strife, Thief. Good stuff, huh? You know, a number of people would debate whether that game actually falls into the shooter genre. You know, since you're such an expert on shooters, this should be a very easy question to answer:
Why don't you pick a level from a shooter you do like, then compare them to a couple Halo levels, pointing out the differences and demonstrating what's wrong with Halo's levels.

The Elite looks like a Predalien in only the vaguest "where are my glasses" fashion. Was the Predalien actuallythe creative inspiration for the Elite, or is this just another thing you're making up? And the Flood was based on the alien instinct? What? I really don't know what you're saying here.
Hi, guys. I'm a Call of Duty 4 fanboy. My game is better than any other game in existence, regardless of genre. No RPG, no FPS, no TPS, no RTS will ever surpass Call of Duty 4 in any way, shape or form. The only game that will ever surpass Call of Duty 4 in any regard is Modern Warfare 2. No other game stands a chance.
Halo is teh suck and no one is allowed to enjoy it because I say so. If you're not playing Call of Duty 4, or are anxiously awaiting Modern Warfare 2, then you need to go crawl into a hole and die of cancer.
I'm gonna stop the sarcasm train there and just say that different colors were made for different tastes. You play your Halo, I'll play my Call of Duty. I'll hate Halo, you'll hate Call of Duty. I'll be tolerant of your tastes, but I'm still going to think my opinion is better because, well...it's my opinion. You'll think I'm an idiot, and I will think the same of you.
It's natural, you guys. :D

Can't I like both? :(
I don't yell into my mic, in fact I rarely talk while playing Halo.
I actually really like halo 3 for its multiplayer mode: it's highly customizable and there is always great user created content to download unfortunately I got sick of all the idiots screaming into their mics but I still play it with friends just because it's got a crappy community doesn't mean it's a bad game.

I would say that Halo 3 is on top because the Call of Duty community is fractured into two games, instead of just one. Some people stayed with Modern Warfare, some went ahead with the expansion pack that is World at War. Once MW2 is released, both halves will come together again. Can't I like both? :(

I love both !! They're both enjoyable.
And to all Halo haters, its allright to insult the game as much as you like, but dont try to insult players who enjoy the game.
