I hope they come out with a 120 gb hdd. I personally don't care about the HDMI, and I dont think for one second they will put the HD-DVD drive in it, mostly becuase they have to make alot of money selling it seperatly. Also, not everyone wants the HD-DVD drive. HDMI is only good for the 7.1 surround sound anyways.

People who are complaining about getting "screwed" out of something -- you bought what you wanted with the money you chose to spend on that item. You did not get screwed out of anything. Microsoft did not mislead you to believe that your 360 had HDMI and you bought the console knowing it only used component or VGA out for HD.

All of these electronic products get revised in some way over the years. Take the Nintendo DS as an example. It has seen a few revisions. So has the PS2. So have products like Ipods, cars, TV's, stereos, etc. Just enjoy what you have and buy the new version if you really want it when it comes out.

i bought my 360 just less than a month ago and I bought it because it was the best there was in console gaming. I knew that they would release an updated version of the 360 someday but not just one year after launch. I didn't expect the 360 to be outdated just a few months after I bought it. And all you people who say why we get so p!ssed about it because ps2s and ds' get updated its because sony didnt put hdmi's in their console, nintendo didnt make their handhelds with an incorporated hard drive. They were all minor improvements not something major like a hdmi port.

From what my uncle says (He works at ATI on the 360 and was working on its development, don't believe me that's ok) the 360 will release the 65 nm chipset soon enough, however they are waiting on releasing the hard drive and the HDMI input until the motherboard specs are finalized for the new 65nm process. Whether they will actually put the HDMI into the systems is unknown, but there are prototype 360s at ATI that use HDMI slots.

However he said don't bet on any HD-DVD stuff for a good while. HDMI and bigger hard drives are the only real thing that is going on.

zidura, you make it seem like the HDMI port isnt significant... obvoiusly you dont know the difference between having a analog HD output vs the digital HDMI output... I do enjoy what I have but I wont buy the new version at such a high price... I know I bought it knowing that it only would use the component output, the problem is that months after the release microsoft adds the HDMI with no option of existing users to upgrade. your comment doesnt justify your point that your trying to make. sorry,

"Months after"!? What are you talking about? The xbox 360 has been out for over a year now, by the time this new HDMI version is actually released to the public we'll be looking at closer to 2 yrs since the launch date. Just because you waited a year to by the original 360 doesn't mean Microsoft is screwing you over.

Like the Sony PS3 yeah?

I would not like an interanal Hard Drive. What would happen if you Xbox 360 V2 broke? You would be screwed becuase you wouldn't be able to remove the HDD.

I honestly didnt know that its been out for 2 years now. But none the less dont you feel kinda out of luck with this whole deal? Honestly all I'm hopeing for is a Microsoft representitive reads these posts... I e-mailed them my complaint and left posts on their web site. I'm not gonna spend anymore time on this but the consenses here says -> Most people feel bad about not being able to use the HDMI if they already put the cash out for the "original 360" as you put it

This is simply a move by Microsoft to allow them to keep the Xbox 360 profitable. The $400 price tag begins to look suspect after over a year on the market, so rather than cut the cost of the system, they'll simply add features that appear to have a high-worth to users, yet cost them very little. "120gb, hdmi-out, cooler-running Xbox 360 for $400" sounds even better than "Xbox 360, now $300" to consumers, especially at that still-relatively-high price range.

At the same time, it's not hurting early adopters any more than the DS Lite redesign is. It's the same thing - after a year or two the system gets a little sleeker, the video output gets a little better, and they tweek the price. Big deal. Rather than whine and moan, why not realize that, as an early adopter, you've gotten likely an extra eighteen months of play time on a cutting edge system while the rest of us were stuck on older hardware. As for those of you who got 360s for Christmas - let's get real for a moment - the rumors about a redesign have been around for *months* - you wanted one for Christmas, and you're lucky to have gotten one. Instead of whining because someone who wants the 360 as a media center device can get an improved model in August, why not be glad you were a given a gift you probably couldn't afford on your allowance?

And as for adults who bought one this Christmas, there were *so* many awesome deals (Toys R Us $100 gift card, Microcenter $100 rebate, free games at EB, $80 trade-in on Xbox 1) that you really can't complain.

Honestly the only people who are in a bad situation right now are people like me - who just bought HDTVs during the post-holiday sales and would love to get a 360, yet can't find any good deals (thanks in part to liberal post-holiday return policies), and will have to wait a few months before we can get a solid deal on the system.

In response to Lukedeem:
I do know quite a bit about the differences between HDMI and analog video outputs but that's irrelevant. My point is simply that you bought something and you got what you paid for. You weren't misled in what you purchased. Technology will always improve and not over a long period of time necessarily either.

Take my TV for example. I bought a 42" Sony Grand Wega LCD. Within a few months of my purchase, Sony brought out a newer, better model of the same TV with a better processor, more video inputs (like VGA, for example) and a more streamlined appearance (speakers hidden and overall appearance improved). Should I phone up Sony and complain that they improved their TV so soon after I purchased mine? Wouldn't that be ridiculous?

I'll probably trade in my original 360 when the new one comes out (assuming it's not bogus) at a small financial loss. That's life with technology, I guess.

Listen to thssPodcat -  The guy states that the IPTV will only work with something that must be added to the the 360.  This means a whole new unit.  Splitting the market between current systems that do not have IPTV and future fall 2007 that can handle IPTV.

That sucks.  I am not buying another 360 just for IPTV.

At least I would wait for the new CPU. The new CPU was announced by MS and will launched around this summer. (hopefully)

I'd wait for the better one to be released. At the moment you can do some research on what are the better games and start saving up. Good luck... time flies quickly.

I think it really depends on your finances. For me, I'd rather enjoy it now than wait a year or half a year to play those games. Then if I must trade it in (you won't HAVE to get the new version) I could lose maybe $200 in the process of trading in or selling the old 360 for a new one. In the meantime, I've enjoyed playing the 360. I bought mine last February as soon as I could get one (launch period was impossible to find one) and have now been enjoying it more than any console I had before (I've had lots of other consoles). Besides, do you really need the 360 just to have IPTV? Most people have DVR's, TiVo's, or DVD recorders, or -- dare I say it? -- VCR's for that sort of stuff anyways.

Microsoft does not deny that this does not exist. They stated that "We are always trying new things. We have experimented with HD DVD players built in and HDMI outputs. We have many different setups (experimental XBOX's) and just because images where leaked doesn't mean we are going to produce it."

Anybody know if Microsoft is going to have a trade in program for this?  Like if our current 360 dies and we trade it will they give back a new one instead?  Cause the way I see it, Microsoft will be mass producing this one later on.

if any of this is true, i hope that they make it in black because the white is cool in all, but if i had one by controller would be like brown after a week. If it aint in black, is there any thing i could put on it to make it black(like a kit or something)?

even if the new hdmi component is out and gives users a true 1080p output.. it shouldent make any real difference.. since.. the only benefiting factor would be hd-dvd.. since that is the only thing that even outputs at true 1080p. So no real loss for most xbox 360 users...

Thats why I buy as much stuff from costco as possible, I love their policy

But saving receipts can be annoying sometimes.

Still, shopping at Costco is worth it becasue of the policy :)

then it would be huge. the power brick is not a big deal. id rather have it outside of the system just incase one or the other goes bad. together, wouldn't they both bust? hddvd would be nice since mother and i are looking at a 30 inch hdtv for only like 460 bucks.

I'm very interested in getting an XBox 360. I missed the Boxing Day sales, so the same "holiday pack" is now $100 more in Canada, for $499. I have a Sony CRT television, and don't plan on getting an HDTV for another 2-3 years. I've been hearing about the new V2 console, and I'm wondering if I should buy now or wait. Any thoughts? (Yes, I have read several of the previous posts, but still interested in opinion, thanks!)

As an 'early' adopter of the Xbox 360 platform I feel that Micrsoft as a company has betrayed their most loyal fans. We pay them with our good money for the latest in video game consoles to find them only a year later updating the system with features that were supposed to be on the original system. I am not worried about the larger hard drive as I dont store any media besides game demos on there, I dont care about the cooler chip as I already have an intercooler but seriously adding a hdmi port?! I am one of those people who do have a 1080p hdtv and I am really pissed that now they decide to introduce a hdmi port. Hopefully though they will be able make some sort of accessory so the v1 360s will support hdmi

Would you prefer that they didn't improve a faulty system?

I've heard the new XBox will be a combination of gaming console and IPTV box, to replace your existing cable/PVR box. Since I won't be getting an HDTV for a few years yet, I might just say the heck with it and get an XBox 360. Been waiting for too long. Besides, by the time the new one comes out, there will be rumours of the nextgen XBox. So really... is waiting that important?

I work for Microsoft Tech support and have heard nothing about any new 360 coming out.

However I have been hearing about a possible price drop this November. No one knows yet how much it will drop if there is a price drop, but anything helps. :)

even if this is true, why are people complaning. the new chip has the same power, and as for the 120gig hd, sure its good, but it will cost a fortune. i don't have a hd tv so i don't care about the ports either.

this new 360, if it does come out, will cost alot more than a current 360, it will not replace it. 120gigs, you're gonna have to pay for that.

Where did the rumor of this 120GB hard drive start?

There's no pics, no videos, no evidence whatsoever and yet people insist that Microsoft will be coming out with a 120GB hard drive.

i agree, but there is no pics on this or nothing... so you can't know. for now its a mouth to ear rumor, we haven't even seen the fake proof pictures.
