[QUOTE="cofn42"][QUOTE="fore_runner"][QUOTE="walton13"][QUOTE="fore_runner"][QUOTE="countphatula"][QUOTE="fore_runner"]I just wish this new Xbox 360 2.0 included an internal HD DVD drive as well....and no power brick would be nice.fore_runner
Like the Sony PS3 yeah?

Well...except for the part where the PS3 has a blu ray drive....which uses a ten year old compression technology....so I'm not interested in that....and not having a power brick...while remaining the same size...not 11lbs of fingerprints.

the bluray drive is using a more up to date compression method, also, 11 pounds of fingerprints? how often fo you rub your video game console?? When the 360 V.2 launches, i will join the Xbox community for the first time. Besides, all these great games that are currently out will be chaper by then LOL

Mpeg 4 is ten years old....the reason Sony wants it, is because it's their technology, while HD DVD uses VC1...

Err, WORNG. Blu-ray uses one of 3 codecs MPEG-2, H.264/AVC, and SMPTE VC-1 Initial versions of Sony's Blu-ray Disc-authoring software only included support for MPEG-2 video, so the initial Blu-ray Discs were forced to use MPEG-2 rather than the newer codecs, VC-1 and H.264. An upgrade was subsequently released supporting the newer compression methods so the second wave of Blu-ray Disc titles were able to make use of this. The choice of codecs affects disc cost (due to related licensing/royalty payments) as well as program capacity. The two more advanced video codecs can typically achieve twice the video runtime of MPEG-2. When using MPEG-2, quality considerations would limit the publisher to around two hours of high-definition content on a single-layer (25 GB) BD-ROM.

You have no idea what you're talking about. lol

Sorry ment to quote....
How 2 serve someone 101:
lol dude doesn't know it yet, but he's just been served!! I like how he makes up for his lack of FACTUAL information by changing the subject to how great his 360 experience has been. Don't get me wrong, I agree, I love the 360 but when I try to talk Sh**, I true to do it by supporting facts thats all....kinda like fore_runner here

When is there going to be any proof to back up the idea of a new 360 coming out?

Believing in "Project Zephyr" is like believing in the 9/11 Conspiracy theory or Religon.

Not really. The reduced shipment numbers are a *dead* giveway - 12 million by the end of July? Second, Microsoft has confirmed the move to a 65nm CPU in the 360 - HDMI and HDD aside, the 65nm chip makes the 360s coming out in July is a "redesign" as is. But the real question is - why wouldn't Microsoft just let the 65nm units get integrated in the same way it let the other minor changes in hardware integrate into the pipeline - why do they want to cut shipment numbers, thus letting store shelves empty out of 360s (albeit during a slow time of the year)? The answer is simple - they're holding the "newer" units. The question is why? Do these units have larger hard drives, new video-out ports, new case colors, some kind of new packaging ("now includes three games" or some such?) What is Microsoft doing? Frankly though, we all know they're doing something - we just don't know what.

What they are doing is screwing us early adopters over.... and if they get into a habit of this they we will soon end up with an extremely low end console.

I really want to see a wider range of games for "Zephyr". The Xbox 360 now has got a good lineup though alot of the games are shooters!!! By the way who thinks they're gonna change to nVidia for the graphics chip on the Zephyr?

I think it's absolutely stupid that MS is even considering this. They are trying so hard to be Sony in being THE entertainment centre. Why not just focus of making great quality of games and getting exclusives? oh wait MS is already doing this. So now they're just wasting their time and probally money with making an upgrade to an already current and hot system.  MS needs to take a note from Nintendo and just focus on what you have already and not worry about the competition as to the extent they are (or potentially are). This "Zephyr" is alreadying upsetting early adopters and MS is showing that they have no confidence is their console.  I think that all that is needed is down the road realease a new premium with a 100 gb and to only upgrade by D/Ling.

This kind of annoys me. A new improved system with a cooler running more power efficient CPU would have been nice at launch (and was possible considering PC's were shipping with them) instead I have the external fan setup from nyko which is loud as hell otherwise the system ran hot and froze up. :(

I still highly doubt that Microsoft would make the upgraded version full black (unless it came along with the original basic set; the white casing) If they did use a Black-cased version ALL of they're advertisments would have to be changed and the xbox 360's image would be ruined. Also the people (or should i say ALL xbox 360 owners) all have a WHITE xbox 360 controler and that would not go with the Black Case. Though i'd think the black case is sick, it won't happen unless it comes with the original [white] faceplate

To those of you that are mad cuz you dont have the new version, i dont think it's that of a big deal since you guys got to play/experience "next-gen" games for 1 yr already.

(and there's no way in hell they'll make it so that the new version can only play games that come after it's release, trust me.)

K i'm not to sure about what this is really...as in...how its gonna fit into the 360 whatever. But it looks pretty sexy...if good enough it could do a big blow to the PS3...so...if anybody gets any info, make sure you post.
Can't be bothered reading the hundreds of posts b4 this lol...it seems to have turned into a big messy mass of quote boxes.

oh and really...I don't really care about ppl thinking MS have no confidence by bringing this out...why does it matter, the 360 still has great games and many more to come, so why are you all complaining...this is just an upgrade to go along with all the great games to give it some extra sexy features, no big deal, so be thankful ;)

If this is true, then MS will have many unhappy clients that already purchased the console breathing down their neck, they must be aware of this ..... I wonder if the "new" 360 will offer other enhancements then the basic hardwere ones ...

Hmmm...does anybody know if it'd be possible to put the HDMI port on the HDD? That way they could sell it as an add-on and all the early adopters could have HDMI. Just a thought...I don't know if it's feasible. Personally, I don't have an HDTV and I'm pleased as punch with my set up as-is. I would buy a bigger HDD if they sold it for the same price as the current one.

i don't know what everyone's complaining about.  it's not like it's getting any newer features.  just a basic hardware redesign.  you're still able to output 1080p on current models, just not through hdmi...and that is if this newer redesign does come out.

No - the connection between the hard drive and the motherboard simply doesn't have the bandwidth to support an HDMI port. Video output over a bus designed to support a hard drive is out of the question. I really don't get *why* people who have owned a system for months are getting so upset about upgrades that don't affect gaming performance. When you buy a console you're renting time - Microsoft says "we made a 360 - buy it and you can buy all the latest and greatest games for the next five years, no worries". Every year that passes, that system is worth less money - it's a year older in technology, it has one year less before the next console comes out, players have gotten an extra year to build skills at specific games.... A few minor upgrades (made mainly to reduce costs to Microsoft and line their pockets with IPTV subscriptions) don't change that the technology in the 360 is now a year older - that PC technology has advanced yet another few notches forward, or that the cost of the 360 is STILL $400. So stop getting mad, you bought your system, enjoy it and stop worrying that technology will change for the worse. At worst you lose out on HDMI (who cares) and you have a best-case scenario where larger hard drives will be on the market at fair prices.

We've seen black 360s and bigger hard drives in videos from game studios, yes? Seems plausable that MS would start selling these considering that they already exist, but it also seems weird for Australia to get them first, even if it is competing with the PS3.

I thought so too.  You would think europe might, but due to crazy tariffs and such, the pricing might not be that competative.  I have no clue.  Just thought it was an interesting rumor.

You at the top need to calm down if you have been paying attention for years there has been updated and different variations of systems if you have a VGA or component cable you should still be able to get that high def picture but you might now get that hi-def sound without the hdmi able but hey human sense is 80% sight 20% sound so you take your pick

HD-Sound (aka surround 5.1) comes from using the TOS-Link optical cable with a 5.1 surround system. Hooking an HDMI cable into your tv, and then just using your TV's speakers WILL NOT give you better sound. Built-in speakers are "teh suck"

Wonder if they will include the HDMI cable in the box?

SBurns22
I personally doubt they're going to add HDMI. If they do, it might be possible they'd include an HDMI cable in the high-end package, assuming that one is meant to compete with the PS3. Microsoft is pretty good about including cables and such.

paskal1987
The price drop will happen in or a little after July. This is the end of Microsoft's fiscal year, and they're not going to be keen on dropping before then due to the delay on the 65nm processors.

What game store? Though I've known game stores to jump the gun - I put in a pre-order on a PS3 in December 2005 - it was lost when EB an GS merged, but that goes to show you how pre-mature they can be about these sorts of things. We all *know* a 360 revision with the 65nm core is coming, Microsoft has *confirmed* this numerous times. Built in HD-DVD? 120gb HDD? HDMI? Those remain unproven - and I somewhat doubt they're the final specs of the system tweak. People are getting upset because they bought the 360 already and feel "slighted" by the changes in technology that come over time. Frankly, I think that's a bit silly since they've gotten months of enjoyment out of their system that those of us who are waiting haven't gotten yet, but that's just me.

**Bangs head on a table** This cannot be true, I'm getting a brand new 360 (my first one finally died on me) and now I see new a dozen posts saying "New 360!!?!" Hey its cool and all, but this kind of news (and a RUMOR at that) makes me mad and glad at the same time. Hopefully they release this after Halo 3 or 3 years after.

So, because you spent $400 on the current model, and have enjoyed months of play from it, the rest of us cannot enjoy a better model? I'm tired of seeing the utterly selfish viewpoint of existing 360 owners. Be happy, the better the 360 does, the more companies will want to make games for it, and that benefits you. The new 360, as well as a price cut, should happen between May 1st and July 31st of this year. It's not a rumor, Microsoft has confirmed the 65nm models will be coming out this year, retailers have seen the new 360 SKU in their system, the HDMI model was confirmed to be real (not a retail product, but a leaked experimental system) - it's inevitable that Microsoft will, eventually, release a revised system. If you wish to enjoy the benefits of the new 360, get excited! It's likely that Microsoft will put the larger hard drives on the market for individual sale.

Months of enjoyment is not worth 400 bucks IMO. Especially since theres a newer, better, (and perhaps cheaper) version coming out in just over a year after the first was released. Open your mind a bit. You can't expect people who have spent 400 (500 CAD for me) to not be a little irratated.

At the same time, it's been known for quite some time (january 2006 or so...) that the 65nm revision was coming. I waited, others chose to buy the console. I understand people going "I spent $400 and what I have isn't the best anymore, that sucks" - what I don't get is the attitude that some people have that Microsoft shouldn't let the technology advance or the price drop - that essentially what they have should be frozen in time. That's just not realistic - nothing is LOST from what you have. People are acting like Microsoft has said "no Halo 3 for you!" when in reality they're just taking steps to cut costs, get more people onboard the 360-wagon, and get some IPTV subscribers to fight Google. How does that *hurt* what you have? How does it take away from your console experience? The knowledge that new users have a different color casing, or paid $100 less than you doesn't harm you in any way. In any case, there's not much current owners can do - a price drop is long overdue, and the redesign is coming simply because it saves Microsoft money. Whether or not we'll see HDMI ports is up for debate, but there's nothing getting upset over it can do. Are people really going to protest improvements to their beloved console?

Im sorry but a HDMI input, and a larger HDD is a pretty big ****ing deal for me.  Seeing as how I traded in my ps2($200), xbox($180) and gave $220 of my hard earn money just to buy a console that should of had this features in the first place!  Hell M$ could have at least made the HDD replaceable like the ps3.

You can buy the new HD.  You don't know how much it will cost yet so calm down.  BTW do you have a 50" plus 1080p TV that accepts a signal through HDMI? Then you don't need the HDMI input.  Don't lie, chances are you're playing on a 32"-40" 1080i or 1080p TV, probably a Samsung at that, which accepts 1080p through VGA because Microsoft designed the 360 hand in hand with their new TV's.

The_Rayzor

The bulk of the upgrades are just to make the system more stable. A more stable processor, a quiter DVD drive (which makes most of the noise).

I really don't see why people are complaining about this at all. The larger hardrive will be availible for those who already own a system and as the new console will cost 80$ more that evens out. So that only leaves one non-stabillity advantage- the HDMI slot which offers an unoticible difference from VGA and Component.

I have a 32inch LCD hooked up to my PC via DVI -HDMI and there is a big, big differernce from when I had it hooked up to VGA. On the pure digital signal, everything is crisper with the colors and the black levels looking better than that of VGA or component. This is not always the case, as when I had my HDTV hooked up via DVI-HDMI there was hardly any difference at all! Since the 360 is basically a PC, an HDMI cable would wonderful because of how much nicer it could look. Don't tell people that unless you have a 50" plus TV that HDMI is useless because it's blasphemy. You don't know their setup and you probably don't even own a HDTV or for that matter use a HDMI calbe. How much is worth the difference? Depends on your income. I'd gladly pay 50 dollars to use a Pure digital signal for my LCD and I'm only 16. The 360 doesn't require the need to read fine detail like a Desktop does, so at the most, I'd pay 30-40 dollars to have HDMI on my 360.

I own an HDTV. I own component, vga, hdmi, and dvi cables from acoustic research, I even have a few monster cables laying around. What I should point out to you is that your 32" LCD is 720p - but the actual resolution of your screen is 1366x768. If you're using a DVI to HDMI cable from your computer into your HDTV, chances are you're sending a 1280x720 image to that set - an image that is being stretched. If you didn't notice that, then the chances of you noticing the supposed difference between component and hdmi are minimal. I'd also ask if you've ever had your set calibrated - no not adjusting the colors using the basic menus - but actually getting a professional, or at the very least buying a calibration DVD, and gone into the hidden service menus and adjusted your set on each of its inputs? It's somewhat ignorant to lecture people about HDMI if you haven't bothered to calibrate your set. Chances are any *differences* you're seeing are due to poor calibration (factories calibrate for brightness on the showroom floor, not color accuracy) and not an actual difference in the signal. Another area you haven't mentioned is sound - are you using a TOSLINK optical cable to connect your 360 to a 5.1 receiver? While we're on the subject of "blasphemy" I'd like to also ensure that you're using individual components, and not those gad-awful "home theater in a box" things they give away at Best Buy... y'know the ones that come with a "subwoofer" that's passively powered, and speakers pre-wired with dental floss. It's important, if you and I are discussing educating people on home theater, that we address all the relevant areas of concern, and not hyper-focus on one type of input over another.

Who's protesting? All I'm saying is that you waited. Thats great. But not everyone did so have a bit of sympathy for those who didn't.

I do have sympathy - look I understand it's a lot of money, but if you look at my above post you'll see that there's all these people getting upset as though not having HDMI is the end of the world, when in reality there are many more important things out there for them. Are they really planning on signing up for a $50/month IPTV service? Is their HDTV even properly calibrated? Is running an extra optical cable to their surround sound system that unacceptable? I will have sympathy for people if Microsoft forces you to buy a new Xbox 360 to get IPTV. I would go so far as to say I wouldn't buy an Xbox 360 if Microsoft did something that cruel to their early adopters, because how would I know they wouldn't later shaft me on some service I might want? However, if it's just a minor revision, like it likely will be, along with them introducing some larger hard drives to the marketplace, well, I don't see what all the fuss is about. Add to it the rumor that the new units will cost $80 more than the old ones, and it makes you go "ehhh, not such a big deal". But I'll state it here, I'd avoid Microsoft if they chose to go the route of *forcing* upgrades to use new services. In any case, no I understand, there's no *nice* way for them to go about this, and I agree, if HDMI is going to become such an issue, they should have included it at launch - however, these are turbulent times. We shall see... I've certainly never known having 3 SKUs on the market to be *good* for a company - though Nintendo has done it with the Gameboy (Gameboy Advance SP, Micro, DS Phat, and DS Lite all out at the same time) and it certainly hasn't hurt them...
