I'm getting a 360 today but I only have enough money for 1 game. READ BELOW:

1. I'm not allowed to play M games (parents)

2. I don't like sports games and I'm not big into RPGs or Strategy games. Any other genres are fine with me.

3. I particularly enjoy platformers (cant wait for banjo kazooie 3) and action (like a Zelda-ish game)

Thanks!

boy Ken....you really are limiting the options here. No RPG's or Strat games, and no M rated action games....hmm....here are the only suggestions I can think of:

Tomb Raider: Legend and Anniversary

If you like Racing games there are a ton that you can get there, such as Burnout Paradise and Grid

For shooters...I think Timeshift might be rated T but thats not a great game.

honestly most of the great games I can think of are M rated. You might be able to convince your parents to get you Devil May Cry 4, seeing as how its the most tame M rated game ever. That's a fantastic title.

Kameo is a great platformer. That's pretty much it unless you go to the XBLA.

As for shooters, get Battlefield Bad Company, GRAW/GRAW2... eh... Too Human is kind of an actiony RPG, that comes out in a couple weeks...

I'm not allowed to own M rated games and even I can't think of much. :P

The M for Mature rating does take out a lot of very good titles, but if that's your restriction there's no way around it.

I'm in the UK, so we use a different rating system here, and they don't always match up with US ratings (15+ is sometimes Teen, sometimes Mature). Most shooters are rated too high for Teen, particularly the ones that have good online play.

Racing/Driving games - everything here should be fine. PGR 4 is a good all-rounder with solid online and offline play. DiRT, Burnout Paradise, Forza 2 and Test Drive are also good alternatives.

If you like RPGs then Oblivion and Mass Effect are great titles that offer loads of stuff to do.

You also have a lot of games that are linked to movies, but most of these are not great, and are quick to complete with little replay value - if you can only get one game then this isn't the best category to go for.

TimeShift is very much M-rated, what with all the gibs.

Hey, can anyone recommend a good racer for me? I was interested in PGR 4, but I thought DiRT (demo) was fantastic -- I don't know. I have Forza 2, but any other racing game I'm willing to consider.

Avenger1324

It depends if you are looking to play multiplayer or single player.

For single player DiRT is awesome, and one of my favourite racing games on 360. There is a decent selection of vehicles from lots of different disciplines, going from circuit racing to hill climb events and rallying. If you liked the demo then that is a good indication for the game.

PGR4 is great in both single and multiplayer. An improvement over PGR3 it adds new locations, lots of new weather, and motorbikes. The career mode works well allowing you to pick which packs of vehicles to unlock, while the events make you pick different cIasses. The 5 difficulty levels work well to provide a challenge whatever your skill.

Another game not listed in the top of the thread is Test Drive Unlimited. This is a huge open world racer based on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. While the game is fundamentally the same in both single and multiplayer, this is really a game for multiplayer. While online you can drive around the island just for fun, or compete in one of the hundreds of events for both cars and motorbikes. Unlike Burnout Paradise, TDU features a large selection of authentic licensed cars and bikes, and does allow for upgrades to be bought for them. Online you can find other players driving around and challenge them to races, either pre-organised ones, or a spontaneous point to point race.

Get any one of those 3 games and you will not be disappointed.

Thanks.

I'm not big into online racers so I might just pick up DiRT, but I don't think it's even come down in price yet.

Lanezy

You may be thinking of the more recent GRID, which is still close to full price and is about 3 months old. DiRT should definitely have come down in price (£16.40 at Play.com, £17.99 at GAME, or cheaper on ebay for preowned).

There are demos of both games on Live, so you can try before you buy, but if you are picking the game up with the console, then you won't get the chance unless you know someone else with a 360.

Okay so I need to try and decide between a few games for the next 360 game I get. Here are the contenders:

Ninja Gaiden 2

REBUY Gears of War (I already played it on PC)

Too Human

F.E.A.R.

as for genre preference, I really dont have one, seeing as how each game represents a genre to me that I enjoy thoroughly somehow. However, let's see what you guys think

Thats a tough choice between Ninja Gaiden 2 and FEAR. FEAR is more atmospheric and has a better story while still having great combat, but Ninja Gaiden 2 is pure balls-to-the-wall action insanity. Due to recent DLC glitches, NG2 has been freezing though. So get FEAR now, Ninja Gaiden 2 later.

Can't decide between Ninja Gaiden 2 and Lost Odyssey. I want a really long game but NG 2 looks like a game I could finish in a couple days, especially since i played the first one and I'm afraid that LO might be as boring as Final Fantasy 12 since they look kinda similar. Already decided that I wasn't going to get Oblivion.

Lost Odyssey isn't as bad as FFXII. The first disc is a bit slow, but the deams carry it through. The characters are all a bit transparent (really, if you don't spot the bad guy as soon as he first appears on screen, shame on you), but it does have some great plot twists every once in a while. The end of disc 1 specifically. My playthrough took about 60-70 hours including getting most of the achievements, so it should last you a long time.

NG2 is not a game you'll complete quickly, mainly because of the difficulty. If you're anything like me you'll end up getting so incredibly annoyed at certain parts of the game that you'll stop playing the game every so often in protest, expecting it to somehow become more reasonable if you ignore it for long enough.

Personally, I'd go for Lost Odyssey. If you're more of a fan of punishing difficulty and general dismemberment though, I'm sure you'd find Ninja Gaiden 2 to be a gem.

k so im trying to decide on whether to get Rock Band or GHIII, or neither (wait 4 RB2/GH:WT); here's my situation

I could get Rock Band, cuz it seems like a refreshing alternative to GH (since I already have GHII), it (IMO) has a slightly better soundtrack than GHII (as well as DLC that crushes GH competition), and its guitar is much easier than GHIII's insanley difficult hard and expert careers. HOWEVER, I feel I wont get the most out of Rock BAnd if i don't have the drums and singing as part of the experience (i could get them, but i dont live in the states and am currently here on vacation, so bringing back the drums [which are more important to me because i play them in real life) would be a problem to bring back home with me to the Middle East where I live, and they sell Rock Band with all the instruments for a ridiculous amount of $$ where I live (almost $350 if you did a currency exchange!)), and because of that, I feel that I might as well get GH cuz I have more friends that play it, etc.

I could get GH, cuz im used to it, have a lot of friends that play it than rock band, and I like the soundtrack. HOWEVER, the difficulty makes the game feel like a chore, and rock band, despite not having drums and singing to go along with it and being $20 (which isnt important, really) more in price (if i bought it used), might be a more satisfying experience for me because of the decreased difficulty, among other things.

I could also get neither, and just wait for Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero: World Tour, because theyll both have drums and singing and I'll have a bigger budget when they come out, so I could get either of them, if not both, since the instruments are backwards compatible (im pretty sure). However, when they come out, I won't be in the States so theyll be pretty expensive.

I could also get both, but ive thought of the possibility countless times, and every time I do I come to the same conclusion: it's pointless

Im having a hell of a lot of trouble deciding what to do, so give me your opinions please...

Wait for Rock Band 2/Guitar Hero World Tour.

Rock Band 2 has a huge tracklist and you can make your own songs in Guitar Hero World Tour, it's worth the wait.

One factor that you should consider is will you have other people to play with? This is a question I had to ask myself before deciing not to get RB. I had purchased GH3 instead. The reason was simply that I don't have enough people around me to play with that would allowme to get eh full eRB experience. IMO GH is more for thos gamers who only willplay by themselves or have maybe 1 other individual to play with. RB is for those people that always have 3 or 4 people around to play it all the time.

Need a bit of knowledge here.

Are the new 60gb Pro/Premium consoles coming with new chipsets/heatsinks/anything that might improve reliabilty and noise reduction?

Or should I just get an Elite?

based on last years versions,

I'm pretty sure they've got exactly the same innards as can be expected of any model, so no upgrades I'm afraid. You may as well go for the Elite.

EDIT: linky!

Viva Pinata, Overlord, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Skate, Lost Odyssey, The Orange Box, Oblivion, PGR4, Forza 2, Civilization Revolution, Guitar Hero 2 & 3, Rock Band.

A lot of those games have demos available on the marketplace, so you can try them out to see if they're your sort of game. Hope that helps.

Hey I was thinking of getting Civilization revolution tomorrow. I am not normally a strategy fan but i loved the demo (playing as I am typing).

Is it worth $60 (I was worried that I would only play it like twice, so I am asking about replay value) ? or should I wait until games like fallout 3, and too human to get another game?

Rent SC IV because you'll need alot of time to devote to finishing Lost odyssey while just renting it. Also, if you like racers get PGR4, or FORZA 2 they are both under $40.

I would personally wait for Castle Crashers, especially if it ends up being 800 points.

However, between those two it really is up to taste. Do you prefer puzzles or shooters?

I won't be able to have xbox live for a while, and I like intense action games.

So help me pick?

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 or Dark Sector? =)

Having only played Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and not Dark Sector, I'd say Vegas. For intense action games though, definately FEAR or Ninja Gaiden 2 if you haven't picked up either.

[QUOTE="CrazyGamer02149"]well im going 2 be selling some games to get madden 09 but im also thinking about buying a cheap used game under 50 thats good. i was thinking about prey because i heard it was pretty good and only about 10$ but im also thinking about renting a game. lost odessy or soul caliber 4?housy2008

Rent SC IV because you'll need alot of time to devote to finishing Lost odyssey while just renting it. Also, if you like racers get PGR4, or FORZA 2 they are both under $40.

ya i went with SC IV and i think i might buy oblivion ive rented like 3 times and its only 20$ so i think im might get that with madden

If you like Oblivion, why not just hold off and get the GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION.

Hm... well when all else fails, go with the most original game. That's always my tiebreaker.

Braid then... although that's 1200 points...

I am looking for an action RPG that is not Fable (or Fable 2) or Oblivion. Any suggestions?

Thanks this is very helpful. I have a PS3 but am now ready to buy a 360 as well and i already have some of those games for PS3 and plan on buying COD4 again for LIVE and playing with my friends and forming the 360 version of my small clan. the rest of the games was very helpful too though. i cant wait for the 6th installment of Call of Duty... COD:WAW just doesn't look as good as its modern warfare counterpart. All-in-all a great job with the thread.

I actually have that one too. Any other you can think of? I know Too Human is releasing soon, but I am looking for something already out.

All I can think of is Two worlds, or Kingdom under fire (Didn't get great reviews though). Two worlds is huge. Also Overlord is fun, but not quite an RPG standard game.

Gah ok heres the deal I have 1800 MS points, I am stuck on choosing either Braid or buying both Geo wars 2 AND castlevania, I dunno which to go for, I heard braid is very short but I loved the demo, but short really is a huge turn off for me, also no replayability =/ any suggestions appreciated.

That's a toughie. Personally, you would get a lot more play time from Geo Wars and Castlevania but Braid can take a long time to complete as there are some rather difficult puzzles and some hidden things to find, however i would go for Geo Wars and Castlevania just for the value.

Have you played the Geo Wars 2 and Castlevania trials by any chance?

yes I played geo wars trial and castlevanias, i loved the old castlevania games on GBA and DS and never played symphony of the night on PS so I thought itd be a good deal, also I played the hell out of the first geo wars and it was addictive as hell, personally I do think that castlevania and geo wars 2 would be the better deal but i still have this little feeling inside telling me how awesome the braid trial was... I loved the style, what I saw of the story, and the gameplay was stellar and original, also the mario references were awesome XD, its a very hard decision for me, hmmm...
