MS is pushing hard, but no it doesn't make me want to buy an XB1. Also, I think 2017 and maybe 2018 are going to be lean years for them. Be prepared for some more Halo/Forza/Gears milking.
Recore is the only 2016 title that I really like the look of so far from MS. The kid with the Beats just totally flattened any chance I will want to play Scalebound. I still can't believe that. Quantum Break and Crackdown 3 are possibilities. Halo, Gears and Forza do nothing for me, so until MS can really start to move on from constantly milking those titles, I don't see me getting excited about Xbox.
Another problem is Sony has a very good lineup next year too. No Man's Sky, Uncharted 4, Street Fighter 5, Hellblade, Ratchet and Clank, and Last Guardian. Add to that they have other titles coming beyond 2016 like Gran Turismo 7, Horizon, Dreams, Shenmue 3, Final Fantasy 7 remake. Theres strong rumors a God of War, Gravity Rush 2, and Last of Us 2 (or some other title from a second Naughty Dog team) are in the works.
Yet Phil specifically said he wants to diversify MS's first party games. So I don't understand your point with this "milking". And why would they release Halo and Gears when they already recently been released? Especially Gears next year...
Well they already are doing that with Forza. They are alternating Motorsport and Horizon every other year. They released Halo MCC last year, Halo 5 this year, and Halo Wars 2 next year. I find it hard to believe we will go longer than 2018 without another Halo game, if not 2017. Renaming Black Rock to Coalition implies they will be pumping out more Gears of War full time, probably for 2018 or 2019.
MS does not have as many first party studios as Sony does. If they are going to diversify the way Sony has been able to, they need acquire more first party studios and then allow current studios to move on to other things. Let 343 move on to something other than Halo. Let Turn 10 do something other than Forza Motorsport for their next game. Put Lionhead on something other than Fable. Then if they want to come back to those titles, they can give it to another capable studio while your top studios continue on with new IPs.
Sony lets most of their studios, at least the ones that want to, move on to new IPs. For example Naughty Dog went to Uncharted from Jak and Daxter, and now Uncharted 4 is said to be their last one. They will be moving on to Last of Us 2 and maybe a new IP. Guerrilla Games moved on to Horizon from Killzone.
