first of all microsoft will need to make reliable hardware and a significant hardware upgrade from 360/PS3 to be considered next-gen.

lundy86_4

eliable hardware is practically guaranteed. MS dont want that again. And if the next gen looks like Crysis on highest settings AT THE LEAST, then id say thats a significant leap.

You posit the idea, that Sony will not learn from past mistakes and will be beaten to the market again. Yet you state that Microsoft will learn from creating sh*tty hardware.

I seriously doubt the PS4 will be released in fall 2010, that would only make the PS3 4 years old.

Talk about cutting life and momentum short. Sony is practically screwed, they cant release early or else they kill off PS3 momentum.

It would be smart, but only if they could release their console at a very low price.black_tempest

Thats the beauty of it. They will be unapposed if they launch first.

Release at $499 and keep it like that until the PS4 is released. Then drop the price to counter any PS4 price drop.

1-2 years will completely be in MS favor production cost wise.

That soudns beautiful. Cows will actually feel bad at themselves for buying the PC version of a 720/PC game cause its so closely tied to MS and the 720.

Cow: Ill just play the PCversion.

Lem: Welcome to the brotherhood, you do realize that PC title is just oozing MS essence.

Cow: NOOOOOOO!

:P

I think its beautiful. This is a guesstimate.

1. The next Xbox will launch as soon as the fall of 2010. This would give the 360 a 5 year generation lifecycle, one year more then the origional XBOX. However, MS has stated that unlike Xbox, the 360 will remain on the market for as long as the market decides to support it. AKA, the 360 dies when we, the market, says so.

2. Playstation consoles launch every 6 years. This would put the PS4 launching in at least fall 2012. It might be sooner but Sony historically hasnt released a console in less then 6 years and it could hurt the PS3s momentum. PS2 is also expected to die off in 2010 or 2011 at the absolute latest.

Seeing 1 and 2, the Next Xbox could have ****around 1-2 (2?!?!?!?) years of a head start ***** against the PS4. The 360 and PS3 will also be around by then as well, albiet it with less momentum. Yes, PS3 as well as 360. Since the next Xbox will launch first, it will likely halt any PS3 momentum as the PS3 wont be the most powerful console anymore and that rep will be stolen away. The next XBox will simply make the PS3 look antequated, so if PS3 picks up any steam over the coming years, the next gen will likely halt that.

Basically by 2012, BOTH 360 and PS3 will be slowing in sales, and the next Xbox will have yet again have developers more used to developing for it and MS will leverage their install base to secure exclusives.

Basically, if MS launches first next gen, Sony is practically done in the console market. If Nintendo conquers the casuals next gen like they are now (and if launch b4 sony and have a cheaper price), Sony doesnt even have a prayer.

Also besides Halo, Gears of War, and L4D what other GOOD exclusives are there that I can't get on my PS3. So when you guys spew games at me remember I don't like Role Playing Games. No Fallout 3, Fable 2 , or Mass Effect and don't say Fozra 3 because I only like arcade racers and racers where cops are chas you.

Babalola2000

you do realize that by saying that that I can list 360/PC games as they are NOT on PS3. Check metacritic.com and see every 360 game above 80. I guarantee you there are more then PS3 games over 80, much more.

We are seeing the trends since january with the NPD. The 360 can beat the PS3 with just multiplats and its pricepoint. No amount of PS3 exclusives can turn the tide as long as its 399/499.

Besides, im playing certain exclusives like GTA: LAD and Halo Wars, Resident Evil 5 as well (multiplat). Two exclusive games that may not mean much here, but mean something in the real world.

it seems they are betting the farm on multiplats. It's a fine strategy for attracting casual gamers, but a PS3 price drop blows this idea out of the water.

teh_cell

Its working so far

Recession + 360 price points + multiplats = 360 > PS3 in sales
