After giving Revolutionary Vol. 1 two spins this afternoon, I am regretting to say that I need to change my opinion. I still think his delivery is pretty average, but this dude can rhyme. A bunch of quotables on this album, and his efforts to seem gangsta, bragging and homophobic remarks aren't as blatant and tacked as I remember. His ideas are mostly absurd, but they're interesting at least. He's definitely not the savior of the underground like a lot of people view him, but he's pretty good. Like I said, I only like Gucci somewhat and I have to say IT is a better rapper. I don't really see why they're being compared.

I think what turned me off to IT was how bad his beats were. I think that was frustrating to me, and then I would pick out little things that annoyed me on top of the beats, and I just stopped listening to him. Either way, I'll now say that IT is a better rapper.

[QUOTE="DrCoCoPiMp"]How can gucci can EVER make something as much relevant as Dance with the devil, and thats just one song. i think he did way much than gucci will ever do. lol just the name is awful, "gucci mane". oh and Tech delivers some kind of messageHaSheeSh_basic

That song's got a good story, but when would you find yourself really wanting to listen that song? I have never been in the mood to listen to IT talk about the time he brutally raped his own mother.

Gucci isn't a serious rapper, but IT is definitely a bigger clown with some of the stuff he talks about, he really tries too hard to be outrageous. IT's messages are usually only ones that a super liberal college student would entertain. Plus, he's technically pretty poor.

Gucci is just more fun to listen to.

I've listened to Dance with the devil many times, and each time, i pick up something new, it has many discrete messages that you won't catch in your first listen

He doesn't try hard, thats the kind of rapper he is, atleast have some appreciation for the messages he delivers. Not all hip-hop has to be bragadoccio and being "So Icey". There's absolutely nothing wrong with being serious, you act like the industry has an abundance of "not serious rappers" :|.

Theres nothing wrong with listening to non-serious rappers as much as there isn't anything wrong with changing the pace every once in a while for a more serious undertone. This narrow-minded thinking of yours is so unnecessary, surprised it's coming from you since we have a lot in common in terms of what we like in hip-hop you and i.

What I meant with Gucci about being "not serious" was that that at least I don't take him seriously. There is absolutely nothing wrong with an artist being serious, and I take almost every rapper I listen to seriously (minus like the few songs I like from Dipset, the Gucci I have, and Rick Ross, since I listen to him almost strictly for his beats). I don't even like Gucci Mane that much, I think he just gets a lot of unnecesarry hate, and I think IT is way overrated. I have never even heard "So Icey." I guess I'm never in such a serious mood that I want to listen a song as heavy as Dance with the Devil. IT is almost too serious. IT also brags quite a bit too, this isn't braggadacio rap by any means but he definitely talks himself up.

IT clearly wants nothing more than to be held as the definitive aggressive and controversial emcee. He's trying to hard when he puts in completely unnecessary homophobic remarks, or makes some comment degrading women interspersed throughout his songs. If he wants to be taken seriously as an intellectual rapper, he's got to drop this type of ****. He wants to deal with controversial political ideas, which are thought-provoking but at the same time mostly ridiculous, but he just comes off as such a dumb dude when he throws some homophobic slur at the end of it all. Not only does this come off as forced and unnecessary, it hurts the song.

What I meant about he being technically very poor is that his flow is pretty simple and rarely changes up much, and his voice and delivery are pretty monotone. I don't know how that doesn't matter. The dude can write and rhyme, his mechanics are just off. But, on that same topic it's not like Gucci's got a flow, or even a good voice.

EDIT: I just found that I have both the Revolutionary albums still on my computer, so I'm going to spin the first again and post my thoughts because it's been at least 2-3 since I've listened to IT.

Wu-Tang Clan > The BeatlesHaSheeSh_basic
+1

This mixtape has couple good mashups like Criminology, but a lot of them are really bad.

I thought it was disappointing. Aesop's production was interesting for like three songs and then I realized how little variety there was in it, plus his drums were pretty bad IMO. The lyrics were just bad to me, felt like Slug and Murs were both weak on this. 2nd biggest disappointment of the year for me, just behind Slaughterhouse.

I love listening to these, usually just straight heat (at least the good ones are). What are some of your favorite beat tapes/instrumental albums/etc?

Mine are:

Oh No - Oh No vs. Now Again, Oxperiment, Ethiopium
Madlib - Beat Konducta Series
Flying Lotus - July Heat
Dilla - Donuts
Large Pro - Beatz Vol. 1

I know there are more, but those are just a handful off the top of my head.

Toriko42

Classical = Epic

Gucci! Goo hoo hoo Chee! hahaha. so good.

BTW hittin, chill out. Im a bigger backpacker than you, and i love me some gucci.

Classical is dope, love that track

It's a fun album, don't take it seriously. Don't go in with some 'Rakim' elitist mindset and just chill out. It's a good album.

Seriously, I can't say this enough. Gucci is just like Cam'ron and the rest of the late Dipset, just straight entertainment. He'll make you laugh and just put out music that's fun to listen.

where did i say i hate gucci

i dont personally know him

if you guys rate gucci you know nothing about rap music

hittin

You come in here, say Gucci is wack. No cares if you don't like Gucci or not. Everyone has a problem with you preaching your opinion as fact, passing off your taste as definitive. People posted in this thread that they didn't like Gucci for one reason or another, but your claims that Gucci is ruining hip hop are just flat out wrong. Plenty of poster's here like Gucci and listen to great rap (Orlando, for example), and he clearly knows about rap.

All you've done in this thread is drop some names (Nas, L, Rakim), make horrible arguments, including disregarding people's points (which frankly are always 10x better than your own) because of a low post count, and reference Gucci's low-skill with zero evidence to support your claim (which makes it hard to believe that you've listened to everything Gucci has put out, plus anyone who has listened to Gucci would know that he is miles ahead of Soulja Boy). So the question is, what do you know about rap and why should we hold your taste in rap so highly?

gucci is wack, i care if i like gucci or not, no one has a problem with me, my opinion is fact in my perspective, gucci is ruining hip hop, great rap is subjective, my arguments have been decent and non insulting, i disregard stupid people, gucci miles ahead of soulja boy is opinion, not fact, youre passing youre opinion as fact, therefore, you are contradicting yourself, maybe youre being ironic, either way i made you look foolish by pointing that out

my rap taste is perfect, i dont listen to trash and only listen to the good stuff

Gucci being better than Soulja Boy is like Rakim being better than Gucci, it's opinion but widely considered to be fact. Granted it's not as wide of a talent gap, but very few would argue they're on the same level. I think I should take a cue from you and just start to ignore a stupid person.

Back to discussion about the album, I listened to it yesterday and found it to be weaker in the middle than it was when I listened to last. Regardless I'm sure this will get plenty of play while driving around this summer, just listening to this album while sitting at the computer doesn't do it justice. The album starts extremely strong, sort of dies in the later portion of the middle, and then picks back up at the end.
