Sorry if it's a re-post.

Lemarchand can talk about another interesting subject, though: the prospect that, in the near future, multi-platform PS3 games will outshine the versions running on rival consoles: "There's a set of tools called Edge that were developed on the Naughty Dog premises, actually, by a group of very, very senior games programmer, some from Naughty Dog and some from elsewhere. I think it's tremendously visionary of Sony to make these tools, which are largely low-level libraries."

Before proceeding, we need to explain a little of the unique manner in which the PS3's much-admired, phenomenally powerful Cell processor works. Essentially, it contains eight mini-processors called Synergistic Processor Units (SPUs), six of which can be given tasks to perform at any given time. Lemarchand continues: "It's code that runs on SPUs, and it's to do with things like animation compression, generalised compression and rendering optimisations. These guys are really old-school programmers: guys who are always looking to shave another cycle off an operation. And part of the skill of developing for the PlayStation 3 is getting the GPU to farm jobs out to the six SPUs – seeing which SPUs are idling and can take up some of the slack in a frame-to-frame kind of way."

I think if everyone had the money to do so.... everyone would have a super powerful PC that could run Crysis at 60 FPS or higher... but we don't live in a perfect world and considering that fact... I buy consoles for my gaming needs because I can't afford to pay for a poweful PC. Though... if I did have the money, I would so be a Hermit if I could.Solidus_Mute

eBay is the key my friend.

I dont know where you're from but where I live the parts are 50% more expensive. So when I first assembled my future PC on paper I thought to myself "NO FREAKIN WAY!". But now, Even with 50$ for shipping the price I'm getting on eBay is lower by 50% than what I can get where I live.

[QUOTE="SpruceCaboose"]This reads like either an infomercial or a fakeboy.SpruceCaboose

You can have a look at my previous posts here. I was a true Sony fan up till now. I mean, not that I dont like PS3 anymore, I'm still waiting with anticipation to KZ2, Motorstorm 2 and Tekken 6. But my biggest love is for RTS. Since nither consoles can put up a fight in this department, it's time for a change.

I am familiar with your posting history. It still does not change my opinion of the OP.

I dont feel the need to defend myself, you're entitled to your own opinion.

Infinity Ward Says developing for ps3 was a piece of cake.

And we all know how great COD4 was on PS3 so there you have it. The developers crying about Cell's architecture are just damn lazy.

I quite frankly never thought it'd come to this.

After watching Lost Planet, Crysis and FEAR on a FHD Bravia 42" in staggering jaw-dropping 1080P at insane 55(!!!) fps, I decided it's time to shift. X2 260GTX simply points and laughs at any Cell+RSX+Xenos\n out there. It would take even the biggest of all fanboys not to be overwhelmed by such sight. The amount of detail on screen and crystal clear motion transmissions are practically an orgasma to the eye. Everything blends in so perfectly you just cant not be seriously impressed. I've been a very loyal PS3 fan, I pretty much like everything Sony has to offer but this is just so much more. Besides, I'm a dedicated FPS player and especially RTS. So since Starcraft2 wont be coming to Consoles and EA cancelled Red Alert 3 on PS3, it's time to act accordingly. I already have my first 260gtx on it's way and hopefully by the end of this month I shall have myself a nice Q9680 dual SLI 4gb 1ghz ddr3 beast.

Cell's main purpose was HD.

It can be found in bluray players and LCDs manufactured by Toshiba.

It's gotta be the most underrated processor ever but things are rapidly changing.

Anyone saying PS3's hardware is a failure after looking at games like KZ2, MGS4 and Uncharted is making a complete fool out of himself.

The CELL and RSX were designed to work together.

The SPEs can be chained together to act like stream processors that help out the RSX.

Most multiplatform PS3 games have only been using one or two SPEs.

You can also have each SPE to do AI , physics and even lighting to help out the RSX.

The CELL can even render in full 3D without the RSX at amazing speeds.

CELL rendering 3D environment in real-time WITHOUT RSX.

bungie93

This is completely fasle. The RSX was created last minute by Sony. Originally there were supposed to be 2 Cell processors in the PS3. 1 for the the graphics and the other to handle the CPU duties. It was scrapped after Sony realized it would be to costly.

k fine!

but the ps3 is pretty neat if ya ask me!!

So you just admitted to making up total BS?

The PS3 is a complete failure from a technical standpoint. It was released a full year after the Xbox 360 and is less powerful. It goes to show that the Japanese really suck at computer hardware.

this jus shows how arrogant americans are. (see what i did there) and by americans i mean you.

Its actually true. All of the best processor and Video card makers are American.

Intel, AMD, IBM, ATI, and Nvidia the only five businesses in the CPU and GPU industry are American.

What he meant to say was you CANT look at 360 and have the nurve to say that a Sony's 2% failure rate="suck at computer hardware".

Puts less strain on the bluray lens.

It's done once for each game and that's it.

It aint harmful for sure.
