Gran Turismo has had a bit of a mixed history on gamespot - I dont think it has anything to do with bias, but more to do with the fact that the games take so long to come out that they are not as good as what they would have been if they had been released a year earlier.Compare the old scores to the scores of Forza and its not looking good for GT5.
Forza need to be given credit it has achived alot more then PD in less time.
Playstation

Gran Turismo 2 - GS Score 8.5
"Fans of the original and those looking for a pure driving simulation should flock to store shelves without delay, but for the rest, that add-on philosophy may not sit well."
Playstation 2
Gran Turismo 3 - GS Score 9.4
"Its endless tuning options and many racing events will keep you engrossed in the game for many months, and it's accessible enough to be enjoyed by anyone who's the least bit interested in driving an exotic car."
Gran Turismo 4 - GS Score 8.9
"When GT4 works to its strengths, it delivers like few games of this console generation."
Xbox
Forza Motorsport - GS Score 9.2
"Forza Motorsport lets you own, customize, and race your favorite cars. You can collect models from more than 60 manufacturers and then race to earn money for upgrades and aftermarket parts."
Xbox360
Forza Motorsport 2 - GS Score 9.2
"Forza brings real cars, real locations, and realistic racing to the Xbox 360."
Forza Motorsport 3 - GS Scpre 9.5
"Microsoft's acclaimed customizable racing series is returning for another lap on the Xbox 360."
Lets also take into account that the Forza developers have not milked thier fanbase by releasing demo's for £20 a pop.
