[QUOTE="3-Legged_Man"][QUOTE="ThePlothole"]Our founding fathers certainly weren't perfect. IIRC Jefferson was the only one to free his slaves. Though despite this they did make many positive contributions. ThePlothole
So they make a few positive contributions, and all negatives are washed away? Especially a negative like slavery? So can I murder a bunch of innocent people, as long as I also help a few old ladies carry their groceries every once in a while? Then you can say, "yeah he was a horrible murderer, but at least he made positive contributions to society when he helped those old ladies with their groceries."

No it doesn't. But when you think about it, history really isn't kind. We are all here today because of conquerors. It's very likely that the blood of some of these people is flowing through your own veins.

That doesn't mean we should celebrate it. We can accept that brutality brought us to where we are today, but also, we realize today that that's not the right way to do things, so we should put an end to constantly looking back fondly upon our past conquests. It's not healthy for the future.

I find it odd that you are so against these slave owners but you can't stand gay pride. I would think one should be for both or against both.Cwagmire21
Slavery was/is repulsive. Slave owners deserve no respect. The gay pride thing is just that it's annoying and unnecessary. I'm not against homosexuality in general.

[QUOTE="3-Legged_Man"][QUOTE="Cwagmire21"]

If you want things to change, you have to get people's attention.

Cwagmire21

Walking around in their underwear while ripped on crystal meth and just overall causing pointless ruckus is not necessarily the best way to get attention.

Oh well good - let's STEREOTYPE a group of people further to give yourself an argument - well done.

That's usually what it is. Not a stereotype. Don't beleive me? Look up "The White Party". All these gays gather together during some gay pride weekend, and get all tweaked out on meth, coke, and other stuff, walk around damn near naked, and sometimes naked. It's common knowledge among the host cities for such events.

And you know how hard it is to talk some sense into people when their all swerved on meth or coke. They become disrespectful, belligerent, and uncooperative.

[QUOTE="3-Legged_Man"][QUOTE="Lucien_NTA"]I see what you're getting at, but all humans are unique, and if we didn't celebrate what makes us unique it would be a very dull world.Lucien_NTA
Why can't they celebrate it in private? I have neighbors from India, and in fact a lot of Indian people live in my area, and every time there is an Indian holiday, they get together and celebrate, in their homes, or go out and have fun together, but they never make a big spectacle. That's what I'm talking about. All this gay pride stuff is just noisy, and it's like they're just crying for attention.

Are you saying that our differences are something that we should hide away and keep to ourselves, and, with the exception of specially designated holidays, try to mask our true selves with a "socially acceptable" persona?

It's not about being socially acceptable. I'm all for diversity. But gay pride parades always cross the line of...pay attention now... COMMON COURTESY and DECENCY. Common courtesy, look it up.

Oh I'm well aware of my own issues, but unlike you... Red-XIII
Unlike me. See there it is again. You just have to make yourself look bigger than me.
Apathy means to not care. Learn to not give a damn about these political correctness issues and you'll be a lot better off.Red-XIII
I know what the hell apathy is. It's just terrible advice. A person might start to approach everything in life with apathy. It could get sickening. Apathy is easy, and easy things usually become habit very quickly. I think we've just inadvertently uncovered one of your issues that you were speaking of... ;)

[QUOTE="3-Legged_Man"][QUOTE="-Sun_Tzu-"] So what do you want to do? Make it so they can only be gay in private?-Sun_Tzu-
No, celebrate in private. In public, they should be held to the same decency standards as everyone else.

You know, you can celebrate gay pride in public without parading around in your underwear...

You could, but they usually have to do it in their underwear. Don't blame me.

[QUOTE="3-Legged_Man"][QUOTE="UnrighteousFury"]Because the number of straight people is fantastically larger than the number of gay people. Dark_Knight6

That's debatable. Many gays are in the closet still.

Even so, they are very much a minority.

No way to know that. There might be more gays in the closet than you think. Who knows where it ends.
