[QUOTE="3-Legged_Man"][QUOTE="Lucien_NTA"]I see what you're getting at, but all humans are unique, and if we didn't celebrate what makes us unique it would be a very dull world.-Sun_Tzu-
Why can't they celebrate it in private? I have neighbors from India, and in fact a lot of Indian people live in my area, and every time there is an Indian holiday, they get together and celebrate, in their homes, or go out and have fun together, but they never make a big spectacle. That's what I'm talking about. All this gay pride stuff is just noisy, and it's like they're just crying for attention.

So what do you want to do? Make it so they can only be gay in private?

No, celebrate in private. In public, they should be held to the same decency standards as everyone else.

Do you know how Columbus treated the Native Americans? Yes, raped them horribly.

BINGO! You just proved all our points. There is a stigma that being gay is shameful. Therefore there is gay pride to override this.

/thread

Cwagmire21

Override? Are you serious? It doesn't seem to work for everyone. No matter how many gay pride parades you have, there's still a lot of gays in the closet. The problem is deeper than just being able to have a parade in your opponents' faces, and have it be done with. Gay pride doesn't do anything but make alot of noise and traffic.

You mock my choice of words and go off onto another tangent?

Speaking of not "doing anything but make a lot of noise" *points at TC.

Tangent? Everything I just posted there was relative to our discussion.

There's a huge difference between using the word f** to describe a cigarette, as is part of British culture, and people using it to insult others. Red-XIII
Maybe using "f**" as a playful insult among buddies is part of my culture? Should I stop?
Methinks TC that you have some issues with yourself you need to sort out if you feel the need to protest so much. Red-XIII
Oh really. Please. Like everyone doesn't have issues. You have issues too. Don't try to act like you're above me.
our society has become retarded and needs to put bubble wrap around everything.Red-XIII
Well I agree with that.
If there's one thing you should learn, it's apathy. Red-XIII
:?
You can't change any of these problems by complaining about them and stressing yourself out. Better to just ignore it and do something more productive with your time.Red-XIII
Stressing myself out? When people vent, the point is that it actually de-stresses you.

Aren't black people pissed off about this? Every time they use a $1 bill, they look right into the beady little eyes of a worthless bastard who disgraced their ancestors. WTF?

To quote the Corporate Avenger, "If Hitler was on the $20 bill, how would the Jews feel?"

And why does America celebrate Christopher Columbus' birthday? How is he special? He's just some jerk who came to someone else's land, pushed them around, killed them, stole their property, and raped their souls.

Why would America praise people like this? So we've come to the point we are at now, and we can't change the past, but why can't we just no longer acknowledge people who we wouldn't accept in our society today? Have you ever thought about that? If George Washington or Christopher Columbus were alive today, held the same beliefs today that they did back then, we would all treat them as terrorists and want them removed immediately, much like Saddam or Bin Laden.

What gives, America? Huh? Why so lazy?

[QUOTE="3-Legged_Man"][QUOTE="-Sun_Tzu-"] And how do you know they're in the closest?Cwagmire21

Not only do I know some men like this personally, but isn't it funny how there seems to be more and more gays every year? It might be closer to being even with heterosexuality than we think. Only the homosexuals will reveal this, over time. There's really no way to statistically corner an accurate representation of the distance between hetero and homosexuality, since many gay people will lie about their orientaion out of shame.

When did I say this was a serious business? You are trying to persuade people to conform to your own ideals, or why else make this thread? I'm just saying you have a weak argument; nothing more, nothing less.-Sun_Tzu-
You act as if it's serious, by the way you're handling it. Demanding scientific evidence and the like. Why not just take it for what it is and discuss it? Are you training for law school?

Well, the opposite of pride is shame. The gay pride movement exists because there are gay people who aren't ashamed of their lifestyle, and they want to demonstrate that to the people who stigmatize them every day. Not to mention the governments and voters who are so hell bent on preventing them from getting married.

I think I kind of understand where you're coming from. I am straight, and I believe in being proud of who you are, but I think a straight pride 'movement' is completely unnecessary. We have rights, and we're not frowned upon because we have a different lifestyle.

This is the best answer so far, I must say. You explained pretty well what the other side might say. Points for you. Everyone else who tried to be little intellectuals, you lose! A straight pride movement isn't being suggested. The point is that if there is gay pride, why can't we have straight pride? It's just kind of silly to me.

Well if gay people weren't persecuted for centuries, weren't discriminated against beyond even just the past 20 years, didn't suffer so many hate crimes, and even still put to death in a lot of countries around the world then there'd be no need.

The word starting with f used to describe homosexuals is still thrown around an awful lot these days and people use it more liberally than anyone would dare with the n word used to deride black people. The word *** derives from a bundle of sticks used to start fires, which is what they'd do to homosexuals in medieval times. Throw them in to a fire and burn them alive.

You can just look around OT and see that homophobia is still prevalent, even for the stupidest, inane reasons. We can have 100 pages of threads with people saying that homosexuality is immoral, disgusting, unnatural and is going to land people in hell with all the horrendous stereotypes even when a) homosexuality harms no one and b) Has zero evidence to suggest it's a choice. Racism is a huge no no, but society seems to be pretty indifferent when it comes to deriding homosexuals. So while it continues, so will the gay pride parades. If you don't like it, do what I do and ignore it. It's really not that hard.

Red-XIII

So where's the Jewish pride parade? The Puerto-Rican pride parade? And all the others who have been persecuted? Should the British stop calling their tobacco smokes, "f**s"? Oooh! There might be a homosexual visting from America who might hear that word and he'll get all teary-eyed! Attention all citizens of England: You must find a new slang word for your smokes at once, or be carried away in the paddywagon!

Main thing is, I just don't like all the bending over backwards we have to do just to avoid being "politically incorrect".
