Not going to repeat what others have said, but I am just staggered that Maxis went full into a social version of Sim City without doing any in depth market research amongst people who like the original, how people enjoy and tolerate social gaming on mobile devices, but demand their own world on home computers, without the internet throwing cat turds into their sand box..
It is an enormous error of judgement on the part of the lead designers at Maxis.
Also, did EA seriously believe they could sell the idea that simulation code was so intricate and powerful, that it had to be done server side? They actually believed in their accountant run board that the gaming community would swallow that BS?
@games_are_fun71 @Truth_Hurts_U I disagree with you there. Most modern PC's (and Macs) are multi core and more than capable of chewing on this data, at the same time, it is very very unlikely that a company like EA, that is so tight it only breathes inwards, are going to dedicate 1 cpu core on its servers for each player. I mean, who is picking up the bill for that?
@skittzo_s @eduardvictor absolute crap, google wouldnt know a game from the hole in their asses, they are an ad company that makes money from spying on people
@zrdle agreed, so far skyrim and oblivion before it, just have given us 'fake' area expansions that you cant wander into from the main map. Lets see the world expanded properly, not just give us a giant 'room' to explore.
I think the industry and the public would be warmer to this if Bioware didnt think we all live in 1998. Does it play on my consoles? um, no. Does any of it play on an iPad? um, no. Does any of it play in my quad i7 iMac, bearing in mind elder scrolls online will and WOW does? um.....not so much?
@ceromaster "With the next Xbox, you supposedly have to have an Internet connection, and the discs are watermarked, whereby once played on one console it won't play on another," said Livingstone.
That is not a rumor, it is a quote from an industry president, unless you are calling him a liar. He is using very careful language so not to fall foul of a non disclosure agreement. Open your eyes man.
does Gamespot have the capacity and will to interview and challenge comments in these press releases and conferences? eaten alive for processing microtransactions?
Complete and utter bullshit. Suggest EA check out Xbox Live and Second Life, stop re-inventing the wheel and stop bullshitting the industry.
