[QUOTE="eightball88"] [QUOTE="7LES"]Calderon's a capable offensive player with potential, but he needs massive work defensively. That's the big problem.

yes yes, more pressure or steals at his position, i would just say to keep him though, he ain't too expensive to begin with,

He's cheap since he was undrafted, so I didn't mean straight up cut him, but man, if your team is playing Calderon for half the game, you got problems.

Raps should take Rudy Gay... A SF who can defend and be a secondary ball-handler; even if he never reaches his full potential, that's what they need. Put Bosh at C and Villanueva at PF, and stop beating around the bush. They're athletic enough to play with that in big stretches -- like half the game. Bosh played most of his minutes at C, too, and was awesome there. He sucks at defending PFs, though.

Bosh, Villanueva, and Gay is a great core, since all three can play other positions -- Bosh can go to PF, Villanueva bits at C and SF, and Gay at SG and maybe even bring the ball up at PG if he can improve his ball-handling more. Athletic variables like that are very useful. After that, all you need is a pass-first PG who can play some defense. Find out if the dude you drafted last year and let play overseas is that guy; if not, move on. Jose Calderon needs to go.

[nobody except chamberlain has scored more than kobe in a single game . that pretty much kills your - if any player puts up 27 shots per game they are bound to have great scoring displaysLakersman2000

I can't think of players who averaged 27 shots per game in a whole season, and though there probably have been, relative to the era, I don't think so. In the old days -- as recently as MJ days -- teams scored way more, so of course FGA would be inflated. You're essentially making the argument Kobe is the best pure scorer in NBA history. You don't think Rick Barry, funneled the ball so many times a game, on a mediocre team, couldn't do that? Michael Jordan? A million other players there's no point to name? It's not that impressive an accomplishment...

iverson has shot over 40 shots a bunch of times and still hasnt came close to 81

Iverson is also one of the most inefficient players in the NBA, which is why I didn't name him.

so has tmac.

Link? Can you link me to T-Mac or whoever getting more opportunities with 40+ shots vs a horrible defensive team than Kobe? Hell, the Raptors essentially LET Kobe score -- they never double-teamed him. Lol @ one performance being god. If we'll judge by one performance, how did the Seattle Sonics, the worst defensive team in NBA history, lock up Kobe late this year? Kobe sucks, LMAO. :|

sorry but your kobe hating is quite obvious. without kobe - lamar doesnt have the series he was having ... kobe had a better series and thats not even debatable - to say odom had a better series is laughable . dont give me percentages and your stats - there worthless . i saw the whole damn series 3 times already

Don't know what you're watching -- Odom doesn't even play off Kobe. Odom himself says he often watches Kobe play, and the offense gets out of sorts. Yeah, but Kobe made Odom play some well... LMFAO. Odom dominated Shawn Marion in the most important match-up of the series, while Kobe struggled vs Raja Bell...

stats dont need to tell me anything

Of course, when you're biased, nothing's going to convince you. It's funny to laugh at, though.

kobe was being the faciliator and getting everyone open shots - making the game easier for everybody but this team just isnt that good..

This is spouted around everywhere, but it's really not that true. He didn't even increase his assists by one per game... Yet while being this "facilitator," his turnovers shot up and his A/T got worse, AND his scoring went down. In other words, he was tremendously worse in the playoffs than the regular season. The Lakers were 14 points better without him... He averaged 5.5 assists and 4.8 turnovers per 48 minutes...

i expect them to get better even without being able to really move anybody. in game 6 and 7 everybody sucked - and i do mean everybody (besides kobe in game 6 in which he kept them in the game)

Kobe was great in Game 6, but the downside is that for Kobe to be great, everyone else gets phased out -- the ball simply doesn't move. Yet a Dirk Nowitzki can still be great even while Jason Terry can do his thing, and Steve Nash can still be great and hand out 20 assists. Kobe is great by himself; everyone else is great with a team. And it's always been that way; why do you think Shaq complained so much? This isn't something new...

i dont get it , kobe is damned if he does -damned if he doesnt ... if he shoots alot its " he shot them out the game " , if he doesnt shoot enough its " ohh hes selfish" aint no middle ground with kobe

It's this simple: Kobe cannot not shoot a lot and make his teammates significantly better, on par with the other superstars. It is what he is. He's a tremendously flawed player, and it's hilarious to see him push Shaq out and then never win another title again.

with that being said i still have no doubt that hes the best player in the league. i dont need stats to tell me anything. . the defense was so good they couldnt even close out a game when they are up by 3 with 10 seconds left . what are you on ?

Kobe could shoot 35% for a season and it doesn't matter, he's the best because you said so. Lmao, homers rule. People in New York think Stephon Marbury is the best in the NBA, too.

Brand's more complete, but he's not a better centerpiee to build around. Good defenders are a dime a dozen. 7 footers that can shoot and move that fluidly are a dime-a-oh-****-wait-there-is-only-one-in-the-leagueMarkSmith

7'1 360 pound behemoths who can bully their way to 60% from the field are a dime a -- oh wait, there's only one!

7'5 monsters who can score at will with range from 18 feet out and shoot over 80% from the line are a dime a -- oh wait, there's only one!

6'1 lightning quick point guard / shooting guard hybrids who can score 30 points and average 8 assists are a dime a -- oh wait, there's only one!

As you can see, your logic fails horribly.

Obviously Brand's ONLY a good defender. Duh. Dirk = very bad defender, probably the best offensive player in the league. Brand = Absolutely superb defender, one of the five best offensive players in the league.

I know which one I want.

Dirk's team has already been crazily good in the regular season. For him, improvement is abiout the playoffs. He already revived the Mavs 5 years ago. His agenda is different now. And as long as we're talking stats, allow me to point out that Nowitzki lead the league this year in the Hollinger player efficieny rating statistic. You cant just say that every player who's good on offense and good on defense is better than Dirk. Is Artest better than Dirk?

MarkSmith

Brand: +12.5 PER
Nowitzki: +12.3 PER

At C, it's a blowout:

Brand: +18.3
Dirk: +10.0

Get over it. It's not close.

[QUOTE="Lakersman2000"]i dont want to hear about this supporting cast being better than they are given credit for , his supporting cast was excellent and played out of this world for a few games in the playoffs after that it was back to earth for this inconsistent squad from the regular season

Lmao, how hilarious.

Luke Walton is a fluke, huh? The only part of his game that was bad was his offense. Guess what? He got a lot more aggressive towards the end of the season and the playoffs. Hmm, why didn't he get a chance to do that earlier? Maybe because Kobe shot all the time? Kobe's supporting cast, as a whole, was great defensively -- when Kobe left the court the D improved by nearly 7 points. The problem was offense, though of course if you rarely get a chance to shoot the ball when a guy who plays 40+ minutes is in, it's hard to adjust to actually getting a chance to touch the ball. Lo and behold, Phil Jackson made it click as the year went on. Kobe = great offense, bad defense. Everyone else = great defense, bad offense. His supporting cast was no worse than LeBron James's...

kwame turned back into the player who couldnt catch a ball

Lol @ one game meaning Kwame's 52.3% FG in the series is ignored. He also shot 59% in the 2nd half, posting a solid 9/7 in under 30 minutes per game with very good interior defense...

smush parker was worthless as is sasha.

Both sucked, but considering Parker was essentially a rookie this year and was solid, he's a keeper for a future bench role.

brian cook is a horrible excuse for a pf and cant rebound or defend

Any PF who can consistently nail the open jumper and has the range and scoring Cook has is a solid role player, plain and simple.

luke walton and lamar odom played good the whole series . that was it . everyone else sucked

Odom played like a top ten -- yes, I said top ten -- player in the league in the series, so that easily made up for any gaps elsewhere. Odom was way better than Kobe in this series --- WAAAAAAAAAAAY better. Not even close. For the season, Odom, Walton, Cook, Parker, Mihm, Kwame, George -- it's a lie to say that's significantly  worse, or maybe even worse at all, than various other players' supporting cast. And you're ignoring how Vujacic and George were lights out from 3 vs the Suns, which added a lot.

most of those players you mentioned have had plenyt of times when they shot over 40 times and none of them have even come close to 81 . sorry but those "ifs" dont work here

Really? Links please. Point me to any player who got to shoot 27 times per game and didn't put up a great scoring display...

if kobe had some better teammates who could make shots and not dissapear all the time , his passing the ball and percentage would increase greatly (and thats not an if- thats a fact )

1. Even though it's not true to the extent you lie and want to believe it is, that's no excuse. T-Mac was incredibly efficient with horrible teammates for all but one season. Ray Allen is, year-after-year, incredibly efficient with bad teammates...

2. Ball hogging and no ball movement means no one else can get involved, even if they want to. :|

sorry but with this crappy and inconsistent squad i cant blame him . does he have faults ? obviously , hes a career 45% fg shooter , still better than most sgs in the league... does he sometimes shoot ill-advised shots ? yes but not all of them are his fault , what about when they hand it to him (which they do quite frequently) with 3 seconds left on the shot clock to bail them out which is a fg% killer . dude isnt as bad as you are making him out to be . even haters got to give him a top 5 spot - realist gotta give him a top 3 . thats the bottomline. dude scored 81 points in a game , 62 points in 3 quarters ..- how anyone can label him overrated is mind boggling. ...99.9% of players in this league couldnt come close to doing that . Lakersman2000

The playoffs kinda proved his supporting cast is way better than people give it credit for...

But the more time goes by, the more he shoots threes ... at a low percentage. That's what's helping to ruin T-Mac's career. It's what threatened Pierce's career. It's what doesn't give Baron Davis a career. In his first six years, his career high in 3PA per game was 2.9. He's topped it in the four years since, and more than doubled it three out of the four. Considering he only shoots 33.6% from 3, that's bad.

Here's the problem: Too often Kobe HOLDS ONTO THE BALL FOR NO REASON. I don't have a problem with him shooting too many shots -- I have a problem with his shot selection and lack of ball movement in the process. Watch Wade or LeBron or Dirk or any of the other superstars, and notice how when they get the ball, movement is not stagnated. Watch how the ball isn't staying in one place for long. Watch how they get many of their shot attempts within the flow of the offense, or just after the ball has been played through the offense for 10 or so seconds of the shot clock.

Then watch Kobe, as he gets the ball on his favorite part of the basketball court, the right elbow of the free throw line. Watch as he stagnates ball movement, holding onto it. Watch as he monopolizes the ball and the players stand around. This difference is really apparent when Kobe goes out -- everyone else is forced to play the Triangle, and the ball rarely  stays in one place. That's the difference between Kobe and everyone else -- Kobe scores and no one else can gan a rhythm because they've essentially been phased out of the offensive end. Tim Duncan scores after the ball has been skipped around, or after he kicks it out and the ball moves to find the open man. A great example is Dirk -- it's so hard to double him. Why? Because he so often has the ball near the top of the key, around the three point line. Therefore, if you run a double at him, not only is it coming from far away, it's ridiculously obvious and it's easy to pass away. Kobe, though, positions himself where doubles are easy to come from, and his court vision isn't good enough to skip pass it... That's why most of the other players are so efficient -- they make it hard to double them, which is why they get good looks. Kobe, on the other hand, seemingly relishes doubles, instead of taking it to the rack more often, or moving without the ball...

If you don't think Dirk, T-Mac, Allen, and maybe a couple of other players couldn't score as prolificly as Kobe if the ball was funneled to them and they ignored passing, you're wrong. When you keep shooting 35-40 times, eventually great things are going to happen.
