You can say I shouldn't look down on their culture, but that's not helping them progress and recognize individual rights.

homegirl2180

 Do you work for Amnesty International or something? You sound as ignorant and no different from the party that forced the girl to marry. Difference is they're on the far right while you're on the far left.

I won't even bother. I essentially thought I could make a civil discussion with you on the topic and that's what drove me to explain the court option. But it seems like I've wasted my time.

The problem isn't the age, the problem is one party was unwilling.homegirl2180

You can go to court and overturn it. But the party who gave the consent to the old guy is most likely her parents. As long as her parents agree there's nothing much you can do to change their minds.

Similar cases have happened where the relative of a girl went to court to try and annol the marriage. Problem is, depending on the judge and the area where the situation is taking place, it's tough to prove the motive of marriage. Many fathers marry off their daughters for the money. While everyone else, including the mother, disagree. Sad part is, without much backing her, she's helpless.

On the other hand, both the parents and girl may have given consent. But that chance is slim if non-existent. Some people just don't how normal things like this in that part of the country are. It's sad and shameful, but it's reality.

Do you have girls over?

 There's more to life than sex, buddy.

As a kid til my early teens, I had to share a room. It didn't make much of a difference when I got a room all to myself til I added my personal PC and TV to it.

Basically, it's what you make of the space me thinks. But yeah, I get how having it all to yourself would gaurantee privacy.

Wow, this thread is full of people who're way to ethnocentric, and need to be a little less prejudiced.Nibroc420

We're used to it lol. Similar, or even more eff'd up, incidents happen in other parts of the world and are discussed here. Yet the most you see is criticism of the party involved. But with religion? Nope, generalize and offend to boot.

OT, go figure.

Are you by chance a Saudi? or a Khaleeji? SaudiFury

I'm Saudi and proud of it. Open-minded like any other civil Muslim. But I loath unjustified and exagerrated generalized criticism of Islam. When it comes to Saudi, my stance is what I mentioned in my first post to Ghost.

You sound rather arrogant when you dismiss my assertion as something based on "personal bias" even though you don't even know why I loathe Islam. Anyway, I don't think that the entire Middle East is terrible. I'm not Saudi, but I know that not all parts of Saudi Arabia are unpleasant. I mean, I think that's just a reasonable assumption to make.

ghoklebutter

Your situation is exactly why I dismiss your "personal bias". You haven't been here and that's reason enough. And to top it off, you sounded like you were defending OT's stance. Which in itself is distorted by majority. Where are you from? Your loath of Islam varies depending on your experiences.

And I got news for you. Many many Saudis within the country do not pray, openly admit to dating and drinking publically during social gatherings, yet nobody touches them nor bothers with them. As long as they don't act like so in the open they're fine. They know when and how to act in public. Being a practicing Muslim myself, I find their acts shameful. Yet I don't bother with them so long as they don't shove their ideals in my face. Needless to say I avoid socializing with those like-minded Muslims as much as possible.

However, an open mind will not make me like the unpleasant aspects of Saudi culture. Just because I'm open to a lot of ideas, doesn't mean that I will end up accepting all of them.

ghoklebutter

Newsflash, I don't accept all of the ideas either. And that includes the topic's subject.

I got the submarine ending on my first time with 999. Got me pumped and motivated to get the rest. Used a guide from then on.

Basically, first time playing? Play it relying on your skill alone. Use a guide after your first ending. Done deal.

And with guide, I mean to see which paths you need to take for each ending. Not spoiling the puzzle solutions.

We have good reasons to bash Islam. And not all of us have a distorted view of that religion.

ghoklebutter

You're that aethiest who hasn't come out to his parents, right? I'm not surprised at your reply.

Keep your personal bias out of this. What I'm talking about is basically taking every negative, mostly untrue, cultural norm mixed inappropriately with Islam and applying it as law on every Islamic country. Especially Saudi Arabia. My stance is that you have no right to judge unless you lived here for a year or more and visited the area with an open-mind and not the type where you came here to piss on the culture from day one and make it obvious that you're here just for financial gains.

Now I ain't sayin' she a gold diggerboyomarga

She had nothing to do with the decision. Her parents most likely forced her. Forced marriage is a backwards norm in that area which, FYI, is not Islamic.

^ Thanks for clarifying, Fury.

That area is basically Saudi Arabia's redneck territory. I'm disgusted just as you guys are and this kinda incident(s) embarrasses me. Yemen's norms are even worse. Those guys are stuck in the stone age and it's mostly governed by tribal mentality. Jizan is unfortunately influenced by Yemen due to its proximity. Many Jizanis are originally Yemenis and probably vice versa.

I know OT's Liberal "Bash Islam and Arabs" mentality stance won't affect public opinion on here. But at the end of the day we live our lives here and enjoy it while you guys live in your Hollywood~ish scenarios of Islam and the countries governed by it. Must be nice. Have fun flaming.
