Kingdom Hearts 1 + 2 >>> Any "Tales" game listed above >>> Final Fantasy 7 >>> Final Fantasy 9

Avoid the rest until you grasp the ones mentioned above. Especially Xenoblade, Persona, and Final Fantasy 12.

I just buy the newly released games I have in mind and keep them ordered in a pre-set "To Play" list. For example, I now have Tales of Legendia and the 3 Xenosaga games. Along with Ace Combat on the 3DS. None of them are really temptive enough to prioritize beating first so I came up with the following order:

Legendia >>> Xenosaga I,II,III >>> Ace Combat

The only game that's in demand in the used market is Ace Combat, so I'll sell that once I beat the main campaign. I also have no games on my anticipation list until August (Kingdom Hearts 3D), so there's not much pressure to beat those games. I may take "breaks" between Xenosaga's episodes though. The main factor that could prolong my playtime on a game is the fact that I only invest time on them during weekends.

So yeah, once you adopt a systematic approach to the process, it's simple and not frustrating much. I don't spend a substancial amount of income on games though (I borrowed Legendia).

Piracy killed it. I didn't know anyone who owned a Dreamcast without a pirated game and the infamous "Spinning Dog" loading screen boot disc. Sure the PS2 and Xbox had its fair share of piracy. But for those two it didn't become widespread and user-friendly until the 2nd half of their lifespan, and they had the means to sustain it. Unlike debt-ridden Sega.

So I got all 3 Xenosaga games (NTSC-UC) via Amazon recently. Not gonna touch Episode One until I'm done with Tales of Legendia though.

Anywho, back when the first game was newly released (a time when I wasn't much into RPGs other than FF), I heard stories of the game freezing during transition between loading screens. Especially cut-scenes. I also heard that this was due to the game's Dual-Layered medium nature, and it even caused copies in Japan to be recalled.

Was this an exclusive issue in Japan? Has it been addressed in recent prints of the game? What other glitches should I expect? Spoiler-free please. Thanks.

Sadly, they most likely will.

You probably fell victim to high expectations. I played both, one after the other. Thought the first was average and too short. The second one is probably the only game that made me feel the excitement I felt back when games played a larger role in my life. The only game that has literally made you feel like you're living a Hollywood movie.

I'll just mentioned those that defined my childhood:

Almost every MSX game I own. Too many to count.

Mario World, Pilotwings, Street Fighter II, Sim City, Aladdin, The Lion King, Goof Troop, Super Soccer, NBA: TE, Prince of Persia, Batman Returns (SNES)

Virtua Fighter, Daytona USA, Clockwork Knight, Sonic 3D Blast, Megaman X4 (Sega Saturn)

I don't consider memories past the age of 12 to be childhood-related. I define those as teen years.

The Guinness Book of World Records: Gamer's Edition 2012 is FULL of gamer-pleasing content. Bought it a couple days ago. It's a mixed bag for me seeing as it's CoD and WoW-type game crap mixed with the nostalgic bits.

Get Abyss first. RE is gonna be cheap in a couple months used. But honestly, support is irrelevant as long as you're getting them both sooner or later.

Support is more like buying Jordan Mechner's "Making of PoP - Journals 1985/1993" book. Seeing as the entries are on his online blog already for years already, and the book has no publisher or marketing campaign behind it. I've read the whole thing online but bought the book anywho. Now THAT'S support.
