[imho] Happy Valentine's Day!

...and look! Mirai got you a present. I think the wallpaper is really pretty :) I like those wierd vests that look like they don't have a back to them. Mutou-sensei looks like...normal here O_o;! I like how Mirai does things for the holidays. I checked some other otome game maker's sites but I didn't find anything else :P

Yay! My TMGS 2nd Season shipped yesterday! It shipped with Will O Wisp LE and CHiRALmori *yays* Yesh, lately all my monies are going to games instead of like...clothes...and stuff...like stuff you need. Oh well.

So today I've been tagging game pages with seiyuu (voice actor) names. So if you click on the Tags tab up there for me, you'll see all these seiyuu names. Click on one of those and you will see all the games and mags that seiyuu was in and any related blog entries. I'm hoping to make GameSpot the most comprehensive otome game site in English :) I mean they provide all these cool tools that one person with one site can't possibly hope to have/use effectively! I don't know of any other site where you can cross reference games with seiyuu like this! It's going to take a while, though...but I think it's cool. (I'm such a geek ToT)

Why all this for otome games? Because developers in Japan have caught on to the fact that we girls like to play games, too...but not particularly the ones where you kill someone every second or so. Sometimes we like to play romantic games, cute games, even child raising games (well, I haven't played one yet, but I have one). Like duh. Life isn't all about killing things or racing things. Those aren't the only ways to have fun. Maybe if more people show their love for otome games, we'll get more here...and like it'll be cheaper. Like for me :)

[news] Otome Games on Sale at Play-Asia

Play Asia is having a sale that includes a lot of otome games for PS2. I think it's a really good deal.

Like I got Hiiro no Kakera 2: Hisui no Shi.zuku LE for $29! Mermaid's Prism was only $14!! (well, the price of that one went down in Japan like last week or something from regular to "Best Price Collection" price...so that's part of it...) Those prices are as good as or better than what you can get them used for from JYA! Towa no Sakura LE is only $29, too :) Only they wrote the wrong reading for the kanji so you can't find it easily :P

I should sign up to get in their affiliate program, but I don't think their link thing is working :P So too bad I won't get any credit for these link :P I need monies to buy more gamies.

***

I know there are other people who play otome games on here...because my game list says that I'm not the only one with some of the games. How do I find them? Hmm...it'd be cool to have an Otome Gamer Union here someday *dreams*

I suppose I should join another forum...but I don't want to participate in forums that have direct downloads of the games. I believe in voting with my wallet and a lot of those forums have lots of people who complain that the games aren't in English. How can they complain if they aren't paying anyway? It doesn't make much sense.

I do post on the Boy's Love Games Forum...(the people there are really nice, btw)...but since I play more otome than bl, it feels wierd to post only otome...so I've decided to take my squeeing here for the most part.

[review] Hoshi no Oujo: Uchuu Ishiki ni Mezameta Yoshi.tsune

星の王女~宇宙意識に目覚めた義経~

Title: Hoshi no Oujyo: Uchuu Ishiki ni Mezameta Yoshi.tsune
Maker: Mirai
Platform: Win PC
Genre: Adventure, All Ages
Voice: Full Voice
Art: Tami Joe
Scenario: ?
Release Date: 03.23.2007
Patch: http://www.mirai-soft.com/support/d_gikei.html
Official Site: http://www.mirai-soft.com/gikei/intro-gikei.html
Trial Version: Yes

Cast: Sakurako: Sei Kakino*, Benkei: Kousuke Toriumi, Tsugunobu: Tomokazu Sugita, Tadanobu: Kenichi Suzumura, Kisanta: Kouyki Miyata, Ise: Takehito Koyasu, Yoritomo: Ken Narita, Kichiji: Noriaki Sugiyama, Goshirakawa Houou: Daisuke Kishio, Shanaou: Susumu Chiba, Mongaku: Shou Morikami*

*This is probably a false name. I couldn't find out the real name.

Overview: This is my favorite otome game...and the first one I fully completed! It was pretty hard to get all the endings...but part of that was my lack of experience with these kinds of games. The plot lines are really detailed and each of the different endings have lots of different scenes, so you don't get too bored replaying the game while attempting to finish all the endings :) There are 38 total endings and lots of twists :) It was very romantic and touching...yesh, I cried for Ise-tama ToT

Plot: Sakurako's twin brother, Shanao, is killed in front of her eyes by assassins from the Heike. Sakurako is also stabbed, but miraculously survives the attack. She decides to take revenge on the Heike, only she's a girl and...girls don't do that. That doesn't stop her, though. She and her loyal childhood friend, Kisanta, come up with the idea that Sakurako should pretend to be Shanao. They travel to the temple where Shanao was supposed to go. There Sakurako learns how to use the sword from the rather eccentric god, Arahabaki. A messenger from Hidehara of Fujiwara called Kichiji arrives and escorts Kisanta and Sakurako to Hiraizumi. Along the way Sakurako decides "Shanao" should become an adult and receive an adult name, "Yoshi.tsune." In the Hidehara's care Sakurako studies warfare with the Satou brothers, Tadanobu and Tsugunobu. Time passes quickly and she decides to join her brother Yoritomo in his fight against the Heiki. Kisanta, Tadanobu, Tsugunobu, Benkei (who she met on a short trip to Kyoto), and Ise (a former thief and...???) accompany her, but only Kisanta and Hidehara know of Yoshi.tsune's true identity as a girl. Will she be able to fool her brother, Yoritomo? And what about the former emperor, Goshirakawa? Will she live? Die? Lead them to death? Fall in love?!

Gameplay: The game play options are great and really facilitate speedy passes through the game. In particular, the F3 button was my friend :) It takes you to the next decision selection in a blink (It's not fast forward, though the game has that option, too. F3 moves directly from decision branch to decision branch)! I can't find that function in some of the other games, so :P Every game needs this function, imho. Another great feature of Mirai games is you can use the space bar to click to the next text message. You can also use the Return key or the right mouse button. It's so much easier to use space bar. You'll miss it in any adventure game you play afterward, I guarantee. Mirai has keyboard shortcuts for almost all their controls. Again, this is very nice. The shortcuts seem to be consistent through most of their games (I haven't played all, but so far in the two I've played they are the same).

Settings: The setting options were great also. You can change the window mode, message speed, auto play speed, display font, font anti-aliasing, skip modes, effects, cursor appearance/disappearance, and volume for each character :)

Graphics: The art is really beautiful in this game. The colors are brilliant and the characters are gorgeous. Only, sometimes the character illustrations aren't consistent. I noticed this mostly with the CGs of the Satou brothers, Tsugunobu and Tadanobu. Sometimes Tadanobu looked bishie and sometimes he looked...well, you wouldn't pick this one from a crowd. Tsugunobu looked horse-faced instead of Tsugunobu-faced at times. Sometimes Goshirakawa looked like he gained a lot of weight or like he dumped a whole thing of starch on them and his clothes were wearing him...uh...but that was only a few times and most of the time the art was drop-dead gorgeous :)

I also really liked the backgrounds. They were so pretty, it wasn't boring when there weren't any characters showing. The color contrasts were great and sakura trees are really beautiful. Try looking in the grey clouds to find ominous tidings of what's to come.

The font was easy to read. This may sound stupid, but in a game where you have to read everything, it's nice to have a plain easy to read font. Some games chose strange fonts that are hard to read or they don't have antialiasing and it's all jaggy :P

Sound: It's full voice :D Need I say more? The seiyuu are great in this game, though I have to admit some were better than others. I found some scenes a bit...awkward, but very rarely.

As for the BGMs, they were beautiful, and Japanese themed. I would say they were better than the average girl's game BGM (I know that now, but I didn't then!). They're pleasant to listen to, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy a soundtrack or anything for it.

Value: This game has great replay value. There are 36 different endings, all of them quite different very different; this isn't a cookie cutter game. It took me about 1 week of vacations to play through. So it took maybe about 70 hours and then I had to give in and look up a cheat to get the two last endings :P

Walkthroughs: There are no English walkthroughs that I know of. You can purchase the official walkthrough from Amazon.co.jp. NOTE: The official walkthrough is 18+, the game doesn't have to be.

Notes: It was interesting to read that all the endings to the game are actually real myths about Minamoto no Kurou Yoshi.tsune. The clothes aren't historically accurate, though...

This game itself is for all ages, bu there is an add on disk that you can buy that adds 18+ (adult) scenarios and endings to the game. If you are thinking about playing the add on disk, it might be better to buy them both together and start off with both installed...as otherwise you will have to replay a lot of storylines...

Conclusion: This game has the most touching bittersweet endings ever! Who would have thought I'd cry because of a game!? Really romantic! I actually want to play this game over after I've forgotten more of the story. The characters are very nicely done and the writing is such that you actually care for them. I really think this was worth my money and I highly recommend it :) It's also my favorite game out of all the ones I've played so far.

Hmm...I wanted to add this review to the game's page on GameSpot, but the information for this one and Hoshi no Oujyo or Oujo 2 are mixed up and I'm not sure which should be which :*( I guess I'll have to ask about the mix up and post the review after the pages are sorted out. I should have looked first :P

Spoilers>

I totally fell for Tadanobu and Ise, can you tell? *squee* Ise has some really sad endings, though. The one in the snow made me cry buckets. There's not a lot of gore in the game at all, but there's a lot of people dying in the game, but well, they are on the battlefield and all.

[mag] Preview of B's Log for April 2008

There isn't much new going on in terms of gaming here. I *HATE* those chores that take all day...and more than one day to do :P Oh well, hopefully I'll be done earlier today so I can play some games...I had nothing really gaming related to write, so I took this from my IGN blog...:)

***

So well, on to the preview of B's Log 4.2008 (since translating the blurb in the back of the book is shorter than the web page XD I have to work today :P)

In the April 2008 Issue of B's Log, on sale 2.20.2008 for 880 yen:

Wow, it's already Feb. I better pre-order Duel Love and Ijiwaru My Master soon...*tee hee*

[imho] Getting my Spot on GamesSpot in Gear!

Things are finally starting to look "homey" here. I really like all the features of GameSpot more than IGN. Yesterday I put in tons of new games, and most of them got posted (Some of the other ones required verification, so they didn't get entered yet). That was *REALLY* fast and I'm really impressed...on the other hand IGN is still sitting on my 2 games...and they are missing a bunch, too...so I think this is a better place to be...and spread the word about otome games! Yay! I got up a blog header, using free download wallpaper from Sugar Beans. The only photo editor I have is Windows Paint (Yeah, I'm *so* cool, not), so the image turns grainy when I turn it into a .jpg :*( Yesterday after Dracula68 put in a lot of those game from GameFaqs for me, I realized that a lot of them were missing cover art, so I dug those .jpgs out and posted links to them. I still have to go and scan my cover of Angelique Special PC. I didn't realize how rare it was...kind of cool!I'm still not happy with my blog banner, so I'll probably fiddle with that some more today. Oh, and I woke up to find that I got an Emblem? Badge? today! It's that tie-dye looking F. It says it's:

Tagger Flirt
Awarded to those who've had a brush with the tagging system, enabling themselves and others to make it a wee bit easier to find certain content.
Pretty nifty, eh? So I went to look up other emblems... Hmm...Iprobably will only get the Tagger ones :*( My goal is to tag all seiyuu and stuff...so if you wanted to know more about a seiyuu or game you could click on the tag and it would show you all the reviews and stuff for the games they were in and what magazines their interviews ran in. So this blog will become the repositiory for girl's game information on the web! Oh, grandiose dreams...will they become a reality? Hmm...--; Oh well. Anywhoo...I saw a Lamento Walkthrough on this site and it as in Japanese and English...so maybe I'll try to make mine into one page and submit it :)

[mag] Dengeki Girl's Style 12.2007 Issue

Here's a look at what's covered in the December 2007 Issue:

* B-men means beautiful face. It's can describe both men and women, but it's mainly used by girls talking about good looking guys...

Hmm...calendar, eh? Might be nice, but I'd rather have the memory card stickers they include sometimes. Those are neat, and I just got a new memory card :)

***

I submitted a ton of games to GS today (like 50, mostly otome games!) :) It looks like they add games quickly! ...on the other hand I still haven't heard back from IGN about the 1 correction and one addition I put in weeks ago :P I like the way you can edit your blog with HTML here, too :) Is nice. I like. We'll probably keep our "game home" here now :D If I have my way, this will ne the place to go for otome gamers *squee* Yay! ...and now to add banners and stuff!

WALKTHOUGH NOTES: The decision branches will be posted in order of appearance during the game with the translations right after the original Japanese. So the first one (labelled: 1.) would be the first one you encounter during the game. The ending title (after the asterisks) is the same title you will see listed in the game's Ending List.

In this fandisk, once you enter a character's route the decision branches and their order remain the same. You just get a different cut scene based on the decision you choose and the ending will be different or not (there's only two endings for each character except for the Maou who only has one ending). The decisions and their translations for these branches will appear before the acutal kouryaku (answer/capture) route, so that people can try to get the ending without looking at the "answers" :)

I have put the characters in the order I played them. There is a hidden switch to get the secret character, but it just appeared, so I'm not sure what it was. I played the character's two routes and then I went back and clicked on all the decisions that I didn't use just to see the different cut scenes :) ...which is why I don't know exactly what triggered the hidden routes.

Notice: I tried not to put spoilers in the walkthough, but because of the nature of a walkthrough, there probably are some. Sorry.

Helpful Hints: I recommend saving at every decision branch. If you match the numbering of the decision branches in this walkthrough to the number of the save slot, it will be easy to go back to the branch you need to get to the other endings, or whatever it is you want to do (which is what I do in my Excel sheets when I play a game).

CHARACTER ROUTES: As I've stated you need to make a maximum of two decisions before getting into a character's route. Sometimes you only need to make one, so the second set won't appear. Here they are (I originally had these in pretty tables but Gamespot didn't like them and squished all the text together so...):

1.
a) 中庭に逃げる (Escape to the inner courtyard.)
b) 広間に逃げる (Escape to the hall.)
c) レッスンを受ける (Attend the lesson).

2.
a) 薔薇の庭に行ってみる (Try going to the rose garden.)
b) テラスでお茶を飲む (Have tea on the terrace.)
c) 図書室に行ってみる (Try going to the library)
d) カイルと遊ぶ (Play with Kyle)*

*A trigger must be set before this option is displayed. I think it's the "Tell Kyle" decision in the Sena branch, or capturing Leni and Seizh's happy endings, but I can't be sure.

 Maou's Route: The Maou has only one possible ending. You get this ending if you don't make it into a character's route in time, so there are tons of ways to get this ending. Please highlight to see the ending.

To Get the Maou's Ending:

1c.レッスンを受ける
2c. 図書室に行ってみる
3. ロマンチックなお話だから (Because it's a romantic story.)
4. 聞いてみる (Try asking.)
5. 眠るって大事だよ (Sleep is important, you know.)
6. 見違えたね (You've really changed, haven't you?)
******
:D 魔王『誰よりもパパが好き』 (Maou "I Love Papa the Best")

b) 眠るって大事だよ (Sleep is important, you know.)

6.
a) 見違えたね (You've really changed, haven't you?)
b) 変わらないね (You haven't changed at all, have you?)

7.

b) わたしが傍にいるから (I'll stay by your side, so...)

8.
a) それは本当の気持ち? (Is that really how you feel?)

9.
a) 止めようとする (Try to stop him.)
b) 見守る (Look at him.)

10.

:) To get Unan's Good Ending:

3a. ロマンチックなお話だから (Because it's a romantic story.)
4b. 聞かない (Don't ask.)
5b. 眠るって大事だよ (Sleep is important, you know.)

8b. ユナンは優しいんだね (Unan, you're so nice, aren't you?)*
9b. 見守る (Look at him.)
10a. 図書室かな (Is he in the library?)

b) 平等になんて無理だよ (Equally is impossible, you know.)

9.
a) ここを出てどこに行くの? (Where are you going after you leave here?)
b) 。。。行かないで (...please don't go.)

* Technically this is not Sena's route for some reason. I think it's the switch to get Kyle's option if you choose "Tell."

:) To get Sena's Good Ending:

3b. 言わない (Don't tell.)
4b. そうかもしれないね (You might be right.)
5b. 自由は幸せじゃないの? (Freedom isn't happiness then?)
6a. お願いカイル内緒にして (Please keep this a secret, Kyle.)

[walkthrough] Under the Moon ~Tsukiiro Ehon~ Part 1/4

INTRODUCTION: I wanted to put the blog and the walkthrough in the same entry, but then it got lost and I thought it wasn't such a good idea anyway...and well, Gamespot isn't handling tables well, either, so I'll give up on that idea. Blah. It would have made things a lot easier, though.

Anyhoo, this is my first walkthrough...well, my second attempt for this one walkthrough because the first one got eaten by Gamespot :*( Live and learn, I suppose. Well, that's okay. It's better now than it was before, so...

All this is from my own personal gaming notes, so it probably isn't the same as other walkthroughs in other blogs, magazines, game sites, etc. They may not be the most efficient routes. Acutally I'd say they are definately not, but they get you where you want to go, right? This games has multiple ways to get to the same route, so...*shrug* Hey, it'll get you all the scenes, all the CG, and all the songs. I think that's good enough :)

I'd really appreciate it if you comment if you use this walkthrough :) The more comments I get the happier I will be and the more likely it'll be that I write more (it's a lot more work than I initially thought! ...and well, since I read Japanese, I don't need to write this out in English for myself. So *why am* I doing this? To build up the otome gaming community so I can squee about games with other fans...tee hee! But if no one uses it, then why bother?). If you have any suggestions for improvements, I'd be really interested hearing from you, too! Or additions...I will credit you for them if I use them :) Oh, but please don't ask me to translate the entire thing and I won't participate in any *unlicensed* translations of games. Sorry, I just don't have that much free time on my hands.

Please don't copy the walkthrough onto other sites as I've put in a few translation mistakes on purpose...Please feel free to link to this post, but please don't post any of this text elsewhere! I suppose you can ask if you want to, and maybe I'll say okay, but I can't really think of a situation where you'd need to post this text instead of link to it?

GAME INFORMATION: I suppose it would be good form to include the information about the game I'm creating the Walkthrough for, eh? Even though I have all this in the review...that's why I wanted to put them together in one thing, but alas...it was not to be...

STORY: This is based loosely on page 12 of the manual. Okay, I was too lazy to think up a summary and it's pretty much a translation now :P

"Will I find someone to love someday, too--"

Much is expected of Ashe, the Maou's daughter who was raised carefully in the palace, as she is already a candidate to become the next ruler of the Demon world because of her vast powers. Because she hasn't ever really left the castle, she doesn't know love yet and her only friend is the Ketto Shii, Kyle. She holds the idea that someday her prince will come carefully in her heart.

One day the wheel of fate begins to turn--

They say that the twins, Leni and Seizh, that Ashe bumped into one day are training to be her guards.

A mysterious vampire appears all of a suddent.

A injured angel falls collapses in her rose garden.

Then there is that mysterious boy who tries to take Ashe's life...

Who will become her prince?

CHARACTERS:

  • Ashe (CV: Kazane)
...is the Maou's daugghter and the candidate to become the next Maou. She's not used to men and hasn't fallen in love yet. She doesn't know to be suspicious of people because she's so pure and innocent.
  • Leni (CV: Kishou Taniyama)
...is the elder of the twins. He came to the castle to train to become the princess's body guard. He has amazing magical powers. He's always tsuntsun (indifferent) and his words are cold, too.
  • Seizh (CV: Yusa Kouji)
...is the younger of the twins. He became a trainee along with Leni. Just like Leni, he has amazing magical powers. At first sight, he speaks in a modest and kind way but sometimes he says mean things all of a sudden.
  • Kyle (CV: Airi Yoshida)
...is the Maou's tsukaima (famaliar) who has been assigned to Ashe. Kyle acts more as a playmate than a protector. Kyle is a monster called a "Ketto Shii" who takes on the form of a black cat. Kyle understands Ashe well and is a close friend to her.
  • Sena (CV: Daisuke Kishio)
...is the angel that collasped in the Blue Rose Garden. Ashe secretly cares for him in the Tea Salon in the garden. He speaks to Ashe in a carefree way, but spodically has a tortured expression on his face.
  • Zero (CV:Kenji Hamada)
...is the mysterious vampire who suddenly appears before Ashe. He doesn't tell Ashe why he comes to see her. He's an tolerant grown up man with a warm smile.
  • Unan (CV: Susumu Chiba)
...is the young man who tells Ashe he's, "come to kill" her. He reminds her of the Maou, but he looks a little strange beacuse his brown hair is almost blonde.
  • Maou (CV: Jyuurouta Kosugi)
...is Ashe's father and the absolute ruler of the demon world. He is a doting father.
  • Baaya (CV: Sayori)
Baaya is actually really nice and acts like a mother to Ashe. I guess in English the closest translation to Baaya would be "Nurse" (the literal translation is granny, but she's not related to you and this is a position not a relation). I feel bad that Baaya isn't in the manual.
