Wow, most people just want a game. Any game, not really an RPG.

I picked 3, not because i like math, but it's the only one that really defines the RPG genre: indirect control of the PC's actions.

That was the basis of it's birth. And that's the way it should remain.

Other than DA:O, Torchlight or that game based on a German system, there are very few real RPG this gen. Most of them are action games with stats (that don't really count very much, the stats that is).

You forgot 4) IW is pissed that the PC community pirated the game and releases the game exclusive to consoles just to spite PC gamers. It's not like they would lose any sales anyways..

AdrianWerner

by not releasing on PC they will loose couple million sales. IW can hate all they want, nobody is dumb enough to throw out dozens of millions of dollars just because their pride has been hurt. Especially Activision won't let them even think about that

They would..... if the CEO was a 5-year-old. There are two (well maybe actually 3) logical reasons for the number of pirated copies:

1) The really retarded one: There are that many pirates on PC => every PC gamer is a pirate

2) The dumb one: Most of those people did this just to spite Activision

3) The reasonable one: A lot of people wanted to play the game for the SP since the MP was worse than COD4 and a 5 hour game doesn't warrant a 60 freaking dollar purchase.

Exactly as the thread says. Over 500.000 pager messages have been leaked. You can find them at wikileaks.org.

You will find a lot of garbage in those messages but there are som secret service convesations (ex. possible Air Force One threats)

No, but when a developer refuses to work on certain platforms (I wouldn't count Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft considering they primarily make consoles so obviously wouldn't make products on a competitors console) and constantly hurls insults at a certain console, I don't think you can call them some unique butterfly that cares about gamers.

And Kojima is a hack.

Pixel-Pirate

"Unique butterfly that cares about gamers"? What the heck does that have to do with being a spectacular dev? Nintendo was an absolute arsehat of a company using all sorts of bully tactics, witholding vital tech from other devs so their games were the best, during the NES and SNES gens, but they were still among the best devs, and maybe even the very best dev. Being nice, genuinely caring about the gamers rather than a buck, etc etc, hasn't *ever* been a key component in being a legendary game company. And what's more, Valve has been one of the most community oriented devs to ever grace gaming... Just look at their history in modding if you want proof of that. As for them "hurling insults"... Why is saying that one platform's online community is better than another hurling an insult? As I've stated in another thread, does no-one even consider the possibility that it might be true?...

Even if it is true it shows immaturity to do so. And I apologize, I simply always hear people talking about how Valve cares about it's customers which Is, In my opinion, bull. Valve cares about Money and would have no problem ripping you off to get that money, just like every company in gaming including Nintendo.

I personally don't hold Valve as a "legendary" dev team and I find their games bland and unoriginal, but that is my opinion.

1. Actually Valve cares about it's customers much more than the other companies. How many devs or publishers continue to update their games even 2 years after its release? How about free content packs (with a ton of content)? Supporting mods and modders? Pricing their games accordingly?...

2. Every company cares abot money, show me one that doesn't. But there is one thing that developers (like a certain Activision) lack: moral integrity.

3. Valve has been one of the companies that introduced several great trends in gaming. So yeah, they are good developers.

[QUOTE="Danm_999"] This has more to do with the PS3's lack of popularity around the world however.Danm_999

False. The first team that cracks the PS3 code, will gain mass popularity. Pirates have been at it since launch. Still no luck.

Sorry, but everything gets cracked. Business with a lot more interest than Sony in online security have had their software cracked almost instantly. Hackers have penetrated US government secure networks, anti-virus software and corporate servers. The PS3 is not more resilient than these things, it just less popular. To pretend Sony has devised something that can't be cracked is silly and arrogant. They haven't. It's just the pirates (the majority of which reside in non-Western countries) aren't interested. PS3 ownership is absolutely abysmal in places like India, China, Africa and the Middle East (the regions where piracy is rampant), and the high cost of the hardware means users aren't motivated to take risks modding their software. Not to mention Blu-ray adoption is very low.

Actually there is one game that has never been cracked and will most probably not going to be cracked for a long time: Steel Beasts Pro

I'm talking about how the genre should be, not the name not action games with some stats.

The player should never have direct control over the character. The player is just someone who's just telling the character what to do and what to say. How well you can aim in a FPS should never matter because it's not you the one aiming. And the success of an action should never be determined by your skill at some mini-game, but by your character's stats.

To me The Sims has more RPG elements than most of today's games (Mass Effect, Fallout 3, etc). It's not that they're bad games, just not really RPGs.

SparkyProtocol

In other words we can not have fun combat systems even though in Mass Effect you rely still heavily on your stats.

No it doesn't. You have a lot of stats, yes, but they really don't do much. Pre-Vegas R6 games relied heavier on stats and they didn't self-proclaimed themselves RPGs.

Mass Effect and other "modern", so to say, RPGs are good games and will always be good games. But, at least to me, they'll be less of an RPG than R6 is.

Well, it's final... the RPG genre is almost dead. At least on consoles.

Nah, it's just not very popular in the WEST right now.

Surprised no one posted any ArmA 2 pics.

When you see this landing you know things are going to go south fast.

And not really a screenshot but still awe inspiring: the presentation for the russian faction
