Thanks for your responses freesafety13 and JohnF111

It seems Virgin Media has been trialing DOCSIS 3 connections at 1.5 Gbps in London (where I live), though it doesn't seem to be popular yet. This is encouraging, but I haven't actually moved in to anywhere yet, so I'm not sure which ISP or setup will be available at the place I eventually move to.

I'm not about to pay 300 GBP for an additional line in a house I won't be at for more than a year, so hopefully another solution will present itself. Would be good if the place had ready connections for both DSL and cable, but you never know.

I suppose my best option is to find a house, and then maybe call some ISP's to see what's available before I make the decision to move in. Either way, I'm not prepared to spend a year sharing some crappy 10mbps with 4 other people or whatever. I know that wouldn't work for torrents or gaming.

Hopefully everything works out alright!

Hey guys,

I'm a student and will most probably have to move into shared accommodation, as it is much cheaper.

The problem I am anticipating is that it will definitely require me to share the same connection as the other housemates. I dread having to do this and am much more willing to share bathroom/kitchen than internet. I'm sure most of you guys understand that. This situation is really horrible for any online gamer.

So, is it possible to have a second broadband connection in the same house? If the house has WiFi DSL, would it be more feasible to run a 2nd phone line for a 2nd DSL connection of my own, or to try and get cable internet run to the house instead? I'd be willing to pay for an additional phoneline or whatever is necessary for me to have private internet access and not worry about someone else using my bandwidth.

Has anyone had experience with this kind of thing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

So, when I try to change some of the graphics settings in game (such as vsync or resolution) it either won't let me or the game crashes as soon as I try.

this seems to be a common problem with the pc version and the easy solution should be editing the config.ini in C:/Users/(username)/AppData/Local/CAPCOM/STREETFIGHTERIV

here is my problem - the CAPCOM folder simply doesnt exist inC:/Users/(username)/AppData/Local. of course I have hidden files shown. just that this folder isnt where it is supposed to be, or anywhere for that matter.

any advice would be appreciated. the game installed correctly and runs ok, but I need to adjust the settings because currently it runs at 25-30 fps which is nowhere near good enough.

can I possibly create this folder and make my own config.ini? where else could it be? im on vista 32 btw

thanks

I got suspended for a very stupid reason. Here on OT, was having a discussion and only said "You guys should think outside the box" or something like that and was suspended for flaming WITH a loss of points!! I was like "WTF?!" I also emailed the mods for an explanation and they just gave me their crap default response to any flaming.

I mean, I dont see how askin someone to be a bit more open minded constitutes a week long ban and loss of points. I think the GS mods can be a bit uptight (very nice way of putting it)... And honestly, I am leaving GS altogether without looking back if they get me for something that minor again. I have been a member for years (as you can tell with my low postcount yet decent rating). Should be level 13 now if not for this crazyness.

Also - you guys may find this even more entertaining:

I was suspended for 3 days (out of school) in 7th grade, I believe (long time ago). Some girl in my class said "I'm not comin to school on Thursday because its 'bomb ur school day'." I had no idea what she was on about so I replied loudly and along the lines of "What?! I haven't even started on my bomb yet!" Of course, the whole class erupted in laughter, but my teacher looked directly at me in a very serious manner and stated quite plainly "That's not funny." This shut everyone up and I didn't think anything more of it. About 30 mins later in the next class, the dean of students comes in and asks for me to come with him (for which I got a resounding "Ooooooooooh..." from the class).  He explained to me in his office about the middle school's 'zero tolerance' policy for bomb threats!! LOL He said that 'bomb your school day' was the anniversary of the Columbine incident (the first I'd heard of it). I asked "wouldnt it be easier for me to now build a bomb and set it off while I'm on out-of-school suspension for 3 days? It would be far more difficult to pull it off while in class, don't you think?" That didnt help my case. My parents thought it was ridiculous and tried arguing him as well. In the end, I got 3 days off school to play PC games, and my parents werent even angry at me because they thought the situation was so insane and that what I said wasnt worth my punishment at all, especially since I didnt know what the girl was talking about. That was 7th grade in Indiana.

Another time, I got suspended for 1 day in elementary school (4th grade I think) for getting into a fight with a kid who later became one of my best friends. That one we both deserved lol.

[QUOTE="duxup"]I've heard the buzz tones. Often BEFORE the phone rings :omarkop2003

the signal that's sent to your phone intefeeres with the magnets in speakers and headphones

it has nothing to do with the magnets. the radio frequencys from your phone get into the signal path of a system through its unbalanced connections. the cables (such as mini jack plug and rca connectors) act as antennas and transmit voltages straight to an active device. most mainstream equipment isnt tested for interference and the cables are unbalanced and unshielded. usually, only hi end audio equipment has impedance-balanced connections for XLR or certain 1/4" jacks. in other words, its completely normal to experience this kind of interference via your headphones or speakers.
