"Sir Elton John has come forward saying he's also for Prop 8, which bans gay marriages. He believes gay couples should stick to civil unions rather than getting married.
Elton and his longtime partner David Furnish celebrated a civil union ceremony back in 2005. At the Elton John AIDS Foundation in NYC on Monday night, he said, "We're not married. Let's get that right. We have a civil partnership. I don't want to be married. I'm very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership. The word marriage, I think, puts a lot of people off. You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships.""
My original point was - I couldn't care less if gay people are getting legally bound to one another. Give them benefits, thats cool it doesnt affect my life whatsoever... but it aint called marriage.
And think of how much abuse a kid must get a school when his friends find out that he has a boy daddy and a girl daddy. Totally unfair to the kid. Stability has nothing to do with it. Just plain wrong.
For the record, i strongly disagree with gays being allowed to adopt children. Children need a normal set of parents. They dont need to be forced into an unethical situation where they have 2 fathers or 2 mothers. This goes against the laws of nature.
Mr_sprinkles
fail :(
What do you know of the 'laws of nature'? Besides, 'natural' and 'good' are not the same.
Actually YOU FAIL
Show me evidence that anywhere in the natural world where you have two of the same sex producing and raising their young. (Apart from humans obviously)
I never said relationships for pleasure alone are wrong, I would be a hypocrite had I said that.
I said its not possible for homosexuals to have sex for anything but. While, heterosexuals are able to reproduce, given that theyre healthy and willing. While, gays cannot make that choice because its physically impossible.
[QUOTE="xaos"][QUOTE="Jandurin"][QUOTE="xaos"]They can't and that's never been what this is about; it's about legal marriage. Marriage in the USA is a legal phenomenon, which is why you can get married at City Hall by a public official. There would have been nothing that would force churches to perform gay marriages, just as they are free to deny to perform ANY heterosexual marriage .xaos
Legal marriage = civil union, right? Depends on the rights associated with each :) The reason that there is some opposition to the civil union term though, is that treating straight relationships and gay relationships differently means that they are being regarded as different and it comes back to the "separate but equal" thing I mentioned above.
BUT THEY ARE NOT EQUAL.
How many men do u know who have had babies? Thanks.
If marriage constituted a contract to have babes, that might have some validity; and by the way, I know quite a few adoptive, and even some biological, gay parents, so at least 5 couples I know personally. Thanks for your supporting argument.
