As someone who bypassed the switch this generation but often looked at the games and thought I'd like to play them, this is the kind of thing that will lure me into buying a Switch 2.
The thing about Mario, Miyamoto, and Nintendo in general, is that they don't chase the status quo or look to replicate others' success. They're unabashedly sure in what they have and what they are. Not every game they've made has been a success, and they've taken more than a few creative risks, but it's always been on their terms.
It's why they can still compete in a world where other people are looking for graphical processing power and complex narratives.
@GalvatronType_R:Japan has a very different approach to work though. A company is like a second family and if it does poorly, the higher ups actually feel a sense of responsibility.
Mind you, there's also a tonne of abusive companies that use the "sense of family" as a way to force extortionate hours from the employees... so swings and roundabouts really :)
I've not seen Sophie Turner in anything that suggests she's got particularly strong acting capabilities... She was very fogettable as Jean Grey. Certainly wouldn't be my choice to pin a potential franchise on her.
Better get in line Russia. Google already owe me 5 Googolplex dollars for the fine I made up and adjudicated in my bedroom in my underwear. The fine was for constantly asking me to set up a pin to log in.
I haven't seen Joker 2 yet, but I will say that I would rather see films gamble on being something amazing than just sticking to the bland tried-and-tested.
Although when a studio invests a lot of money in a film like this and it flops, I imagine it makes those execs less likely to take a gamble and more likely to try and micro-manage. Creativity will be stifled.
What do we qualify as a franchise? greater than 3 films? Just because Saw has a longevity to it with multiple entries, doesn't make it necessarily good. No one is going to come out and say that the Fast and Furious entries are the greatest action franchise of all time, even if the box office numbers are good.
All it means for the Saw films is that they're happy to keep revisiting the well. Mostly because people know what to expect, even if the film is mediocre with poor acting/dialogue/story, they will get some gruesome traps and body-torture scenes.
If you consider Alien a horror franchise then it would be the best. Saw wouldn't even come close to it. Take your worst Alien film and it would beat any Saw film.
@mycatismilk: True... but the timeframe we're given is less... absolute. I could die tomorrow, I could die 40 years from now. This guy is being told that 2 years is his tops.
That's gotta take a toll on someone. And yeah the cynic in me says "Gearbox just looking for some easy good PR here" but even still it's nice that they're doing it. I can't imagine what my priorities would be if I was told 2 years, so good on this guy for wanting to see this game.
