In this day and age, I just don't see why ANYONE, unless you're a really loyal fan of a particular series, buying a MMO with a subscription fee on day one which equates to about $65-75. Especially with the amount of MMOs that are just plain garbage every year, they don't deserve my money, or my time for that matter. Yes, in the case of WOW, if I actually cared, I would pay all that money on day one and I will continue to pay the subscription fee as long as I enjoy it, but the publishers are really giving no incentive at all for people to buy these type of games on release date. They're most probably gonna have to go free to play anyway, just look at APB, Champions Online, or LOTR.

In the case of Bioware's SWTOR, I believe they're gonna do pretty well at first, but die out just like the rest. Unless there is something mindblowing about it, and not just sugar coating and wild exagerations by hardcore Star Wars fans (which I believe is to be the main reason why it's so popular in the first place), it will fade out just like the rest.

I am personally putting my money on Guild Wars 2

The bunny code works as long as the game is over $20. Amnesia is not so you'll have to buy another game

Why is it that having no multiplayer makes people more excited for this game (and other RPG titles such as Skyrim)? I really don't get it, because if the game is meant to be a first person experience in the first place, there shouldn't be multiplayer anyway. I'm starting to dislike the trend in game developers who openly state that having no multiplayer in a WRPG game, or the inclusion of dedicated servers in a first person multiplayer game, is now more or less "feature", when in reality it should be in the game anyway.

If a game has a two year development time, you only have x amount of hours to spend on it.

If you need 95% of that time to make a kickass singleplayer experience, you might as well go 105% and invest that extra 5% to make it even better.

Adding multiplayer would divide the resources, simultaneously detracting from the singleplayer, while not allowing enough time to make multiplayer worthwhile

Just my thoughts.

As for why I am more excited, well, its just nice to come home, set the lights low, crack open a beer, and have a nice, exciting, but non-competative gaming experience that goes on for 20+ hours.

Yes, I agree with everything you said. In fact, my point was not that I wanted the game to have multiplayer, rather that many big game developers starts to take away certain components of a game, then call it a feature (such as dedicated servers). I realize this does not really apply to the inclusion of multiplayer in a singleplayer game, but I really do not think Bioware needs to openly state that there is no multiplayer, because if they know their true fans then stating this is redundant. On the other hand, maybe they're just trying to reassure their fans that they aren't going to be like many other developers (such as Dead Space 2) who've really in my opinion, wasted time and resources on a lackluster multiplayer

You guys have to realize this isn't necessarily bad news, or good news either. Outsourcing to a third party company could keep the focus on the PC version of the game and help make it better (if the company pulls it off). On the other hand, it could end up bad like everyone thinks it will

After seeing the lighting effects and day and night cycles, I think it would be brilliant if DICE made it so that either a match on a map cycles between day and night (happening at maybe 20x faster) compared to normal life or just have several versions of a map (maybe morning, afternoon, and evening)

This demo feels like a copy of COD in many ways, but I think the actual game will be quite good and will last me maybe a month. To be perfectly honest the demo itself is better than Warhead and the original Crysis' multiplayer IMO. However the reason I think it will last a month or even just a few weeks is because it's nothing new, the game modes are quite bland, and the abilities don't seem to offer much replayability

Here's what popped out to me immediately:

- Lack of actual gameplay.

- Music is what sets the theme, not the game itself. The music is the source why people claim it's epic.

- It really does look like standard fantasy theme with Vikings stapled on. Not enthused.

Seriously, the standard fantasy crap is getting very stale. Give it some flavor that is NOT related to Vikings. The Witcher is a damned good example of said flavor, or Dragon Age. Yes, I'm completely aware of the fact that Skyrim is meant to be a sandbox, but it is still standard fantasy garbage.

PunishedOne

I get what you're saying, but Dragon Age? It's a good game, but it doesn't get much more generic than that in terms of fantasy.

Edit because of glitchspot

Dragon Age has a sense of flavor because of the plot itself. Fereldin is under internal political scrutiny, under attack from all sides by the Darkspawn, there's a lot of shades of grey. When I meant "standard fantasy", I mean things that don't tread farther than the formula that LOTR laid down, regarding to the world that is.

And you're judging this from a trailer? How is this stale in any way? Maybe the storyline will be cliche, but the setting and overall atmosphere is NOT stale in anyway. Don't know about you, but I haven't seen many games that had a Viking theme in the past few years. Plus, if it weren't for the good storyline and roleplaying elements in Dragon Age it would be a generic fantasy world too.
