i really had high hopes for gaming and seeing it become a true artform with mature games, great storylines, and epic experiences......

 

if WII wins developers will churn out bad ports, and very simple games to cash in

 

similar to how the music industry reawarded talentless singers, simple lyrics, and computer beats. gaming will reward simplistic stories, minimal graphical quality etc........

xbox360 or ps3 should win this gen for the sake of hardcore gamers

Come on, people, please, let's not forget that there are SERIOUS contendors for Game Of The Year out there:

Halo 3 (I question the amount of hype this game is getting. With a shooter like Crysis in the market, I think H3 has no shot at GOTY)

Crysis (This is a candidate for sure.)

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Probably not going to release this year, if it does. It has a legitimate shot.)

Final Fantasy XIII (Not releasing this year)

Lair (From what I've seen I LOL at this choice.)

Heavenly Sword (As Lair not GOTY material)

Mass Effect (Candidate)

Bioshock (Maybe a candidate, didn't play systemshock but I've heard great things.)

Did I mention Crysis?

Don't you see? Crysis is your GOTY. Nintendo will never have a GOTY unless they have a Zelda game in there, or, unless they get serious about their consoles. We will see a Sega console GOTY before we see a Nintendo console GOTY.

All in all unless MGS4 releases the PS3 has no GOTY candidate and the Wii has Galaxy (I don't think it'll win unless it freaking revolutionary.) and MP3 has a shot at being a candidate if its the FPS experience people we're expecting from the Wii.

The games you listed are shallow and dull. I've explained why in this post, and during my post on pleasure. These games are constructed around unwarranted ideas that over two decades old in their conception. Hell, Smashbros is nothing more than the mass aggration of marketing icons. Please see anything I've posted on "Franchises" to see why I'd say something like this. Nintendo shoves so many ancient franchises down our throats, simply because if their games LACKED those marketing icons -- they would be seen as the counter-productive force in the industry that they are.

 Tell me what is NOT a shallow game for you. Then i'll try to rebbute. Mention an example please.

You are jealous that your best game only lasted you 8 hours, that being you aren't either stupid or blind. Any self respecting gamer could do it in 5 hours. They are just mad that Lair is DOUBLE what Gears of War is. Infact, more, because I'm judging that you guys are all good gamers and have skills and beat gears in 5 hours. Well I'm sure that you'll be able to beat Lair in 15, mainly because it will be so hardcore that the common lemm couldn't do it. Halo is like smash (to a lesser extent but still...) the single player is really an afterthought to the absolutely-FU$%ING AMAZING-OMG-CAN-LAST-YOU-THE-WHOLE-GEN multiplayer.

So you see even with its glaring weakness it's excellent multiplayer earns its place as one of the best games of our times, too good to be used as flamebait (as it is being used in this thread.)

 That's not enough. Gameplay and Tilt are worth .3 each point and heavily (if not totally) influence on value, we haven't seen anything of substance of this game and the whole project looks uninspired. Maybe it's me just being anti-sony but I can't really see me enjoying this game from what i've seen. The graphics altough technically impressive, I dislike as I prefer much more the stylized graphics of something like GeOW (There's some great art direction going on here.) 

 So why do I think it'll flop? Cause from what I've seen I would flop it.

 So many options:

a) Welcome to October 2006!

I'm just gonna take a simple approach, that's quite an original Thread title. The second I saw it I knew this topic had AIDS. 

Lower Priced Product (Similar / Identical products) = Better Sales

Lower Priced Product (Different products) = Depend on perceived value and the comparison of PV against the actual price.

 You forgot the bold part. People don't buy Wii's cause they can afford them or can't afford the competition. They buy it cause they think its worth their money. The perceived value of the Wii is currently even bigger to some than its actual retail price (proven by Ebay Scalpers). So what's my point? The lower you are priced the more likely the consumer's perceived value of your product is higher / the same as your price point. See! There's the price adventage.
