If you're concerned about audio fidelity and, as it would seem, need to have a built-in boom mic, stick with the PC360. The gaming headphones you list are all closed-back and will have inferior positional audio relative to the Sennheiser. You might also consider the Beyerdynamic MMX 300, but at that end of the spectrum you really should consider a separate headphone and mic. Good luck, Boz

Closed-back headphones and surround sound do not mix. You're going to sacrifice noise isolation, but since positional audio is your primary concern, stick with an open-back headphone like the AD700. Good luck, Boz

The Audio Technica AD700 is excellent for positional audio with a Dolby Headphone processor, and the Xonar DG or DGX will get that for you at the lowest price point possible, but it puts you over budget since the AD700 is about $100. The next best alternative is the Grado SR60i, which is $80, and puts you just within your budget, but ideally you want the Xonar DG card paired with the AD700. Good luck! Boz

If you've got an Astro Mixamp buy a separate headphone and mic. Check out the sticky for details, and if you have additional questions come on back, we'd love to help. Happy gaming, Boz

I'm looking for a pair of earbuds (or headsets if there are any) with an in-line mic. Obviously for my phone, also Wii-U since it's the only way to get a microphone working with it. PNY Midtown 200's are around 20 bucks, but haven't found any notable reviews about them. Anyone know if they're any good, or have any other suggestions?

Get the Klipsch S4i. They're by far the best value in headphones, and are probably the most highly-rated IEM (in-ear monitor) in existence. Do your ears a favor and don't cheap out! Happy gaming, Boz

Go here and pick the Pioneer DEH-2500UI or Kenwood KDC-152. Both are reputable car audio brands and do everything you want them to do. Further, by ordering through Crutchfield you will get instructions on how to install them in your vehicle as well as a custom dash kit to make sure it fits perfectly. Happy gaming, Boz

The previous recommended method was to use the Astro Mixamp, ideally, but it's gone WAY up in price. The Turtle Beach DSS2 does not allow you to plug in a mic, so right now if you want to have both gaming audio and use a mic with a headset, you're pretty much forced to use a gaming headset. There are definitely not many options if you're a console player looking for wireless, and I'll be updating the Headphone FAQ at some point in early 2013 when I have some time. If it's between the two, I'd go with the A50's. I've use the wired versions of headsets from both manufacturers, including both the A30 and A40 from Astro, and the Astro's are super comfy. Like most gaming headsets, they can sound a bit bloated from a bass standpoint, but if their sound is like the A40's they're pretty good. Happy gaming, Boz

Got my Hifiman HE-400 today. Holy sh!t they are good. And so much easier on my ears than the Beyer DT990's. I was expecting comfort problems after reading lots of reviews etc but now after ~3 hours use I still fell no pressure or anything. The wide headband distributes the weight well. The bass quantity also surprised me - I thought I was going to give up a lot of bass when going from the 990's, but I was wrong. It's slightly slightly less in quantity than the DT990, but it's definitely of higher quality and has a nice impact despite being an open headphone.

I paid 400 euros for them since they're more expensive here than in the US for some reason, but totally worth it. If you got 400 bucks to spend on headphones and want amazing sound that works with all types of music definitely give these a try. They are easy to drive too I might add. And no sibilance (the reason I wanted away from the DT990), if you hear sibilance on these it's the recordings fault.

That's great to hear! I've read nothing but good things about the sound quality of the HE-400's, but I won't be getting a pair myself. With a gigantic head and glasses, I'm pretty fussy about comfort. I'm going to be trialing the V-Moda M100's, but if they're not everything they're hyped up to be, it'll be the HD598's for me. The HD598's and the Beyerdynamic DT 880's were by far the most comfortable of the headphones I've auditioned. Jealous of the HE-400's, though; I hear they sound absolutely amazing. Happy gaming, Boz

[QUOTE="kraken2109"]Astro, turtle beach and Tritton make bad headphones, it's that simple. You will get better sound from good quality headphones and a separate mic.

Astro doesn't make bad headphones; in fact, their A30 was endorsed in Head-Fi's Summer Buying Guide. Happy Gaming, Boz
