What is the model of your PC? It sounds an awful lot like the one described in this recent thread. The more information you provide the better we are able to help you.

Happy gaming,

Good morning:

I'm not sure if this issue is exclusive to Firefox 4.0, but I am able to upload images and create albums in Internet Explorer 7, but not in Firefox 4.0. A screenshot follows with the exact error:

Thank you,

Bozanimal

Further detail:

Front page, 8:00AM EST, 04/14/2011, Firefox 4.0 (however, it also does not appear in Internet Explorer 7)

Thank you,

Good afternoon:

I noticed today that the User Soapbox - which used to display the editorials of the last three emblem-holder posts - no longer appears on the front page. Is this an error or a new change?

Partly a selfish question as an emblemholder. ;)

Have you gone into the Bios and tweaked your settings? It's possible the Bios of your prior motherboard had higher performance (some form of "Turbo" or "Ultra," or some other flamboyant language) as its default setting, or you had tweaks in the prior board you've forgotten, but I'm taking a shot in the dark.

I'm a bit confused: Are you eventually planning to use the B&W's as your main front speakers in the surround sound setup with the KEFs, and using the four KEF surrounds in a 7.1 setup? If so, I cannot emphasize enough how bad an idea this is; the KEFs will not be timbre matched to the B&Ws, and your front stage will be messed up. If you want to go 7.1, just stick with the KEFs and get an extra pair of eggs; you'll be happier in the long run. Modern receivers will allow you to switch to your B&Ws for music.

Personally, if you have to pick between to two, I would go with the surround setup. Unless you find yourself sitting in front of your speakers listening to music frequently - the type to curl up with a book or simply close your eyes and enjoy the music - you'll get more utility out of the KEFs. They might not be of the quality of the B&Ws for straight-up stereo music, but they'll certainly still sound great, plus you'll be able to use them for movies and gaming.

And don't worry about what anyone else thinks about B&W: The important thing is that you love them and are happy with your purchase. Listening is a qualitative experience. :)

Good luck whatever you choose; they're definitely good choices to have to make!

He only needs the one stick of RAM. He already has 2Gb.

Urworstnhtmare

The existing RAM is dual channel (meaning 2 x 1GB), so he needs to replace both sticks; a 2 x 2GB dual-channel kit would be optimal, and he'd be hard-pressed to do get a better value than the A-Data kit.

Forget the ebay psu, the 5570 is slower then the 5670, 1gb on a 5670 or lower is a waste

Actually get this card instead of the MSI. I have a Sapphire and it is great, so I can vouch for sapphire (Im sure MSI is great too) but its also cheaper....

This card will not fit in the existing case, unfortunately. His options expand greatly if he moves into a bigger case, but at that point he's practically building a new PC.

To be frank, you should really save a bit more and invest in some better parts. Otherwise you run the risk of having existing components crap out on you (power supply failure, bad memory, etc.). PCs have "sweet spots" in terms of what you can get at a given price, and that generally starts around $400 - $500, which gets you a decent case, PSU (power supply), GPU (graphics card), memory, motherboard, and processor. Somewhat amusingly, the MMO Champion community does an excellent job of keeping an updated list of recommended PC builds within a given price range: MMO Champ "Check Here First" sticky. The "What Should I Build/Buy?" link is current, but be sure to check thread dates. I think you will be much happier long-term saving up a bit and building a decent quality, entry-level PC than cobbling together parts for your aging HP. Just try not to get overwhelmed by all the choices. ;)

That said, if you're dead-set on upgrading what you have as soon as possible - which is fine, too - given your budget I'm sticking with my prior CPU/Memory/GPU recommendation. It's a lot of upgrades and should yield a notable improvement within your budget. At worst you end up with a power supply issue but, since you're coming in under budget, you should be able to pick up a replacement if warranted at about $30 new.

Good luck,

Boz

Regardless of your opinion on the card a GPU upgrade will do alot more for him than a CPU upgrade in terms of gaming regardless of resolution. i5750at4Ghz
A graphics card won't do him any good if his CPU isn't working. His original and subsequent posts are not concerned with a graphics card in any way.
I agree with you but like I said my CPU is having problems. I can no longer maintain an OC so I have to run it at stock speeds and even then its not stable.rikimaru93
Thinking about this a bit more, are you sure the CPU is the issue? If you're having stability issues, it could just as easily be the power supply dying, memory gone bad, or undervoltage to the CPU. I'm not an expert in overclocking by any means, but I've replaced parts before that were not causing the issue (to my detriment).

Good luck,

Boz

this seems like the better option, doesn't it?sintygypsy

The PowerColor Radeon HD 5450 requires a "Minimum 350W or greater system power supply" (look in the "General" section of the "Overview" tab under the image). That being said, the MSI might also draw too much power for your Power Supply, but it's a better gamble. You can underclock the graphics card if you start getting system reboots or BSODs. I think the MSI is probably your best option and best upgrade without upgrading the power supply (PS) as well, and that's tougher to judge without cracking open the case to determine the size of your existing PS.

Is the sub making a rattling sound or is the bass itself rattling other things on or near your desk that are rattling?

If the sub itself is buzzing or making a rattling noise, it is likely damaged. This is typically due to overworking the sub, meaning the cone has separated from the surround and is buzzing, the voice coil of the sub is slightly charred from overheating, or the amplifier itself has been damaged. There is generally not a cost-effective way to repair this issue, but turning the sub volume down may reduce its presence.

If the desk is rattling you'll just have to figure out what items are in or on the desk and relocate them.

To your original question, user Urworstnhtmare is correct, you typically want to place a subwoofer near but not against a corner of the room.

Happy gaming,
