@xenrathe The message in his article differs from topic that you speak of though. Your comments ring true, but are independent to what's being mentioned in this article.

I was just wondering, is he suggesting that we should do away with preview videos and trailers altogether? Or just certain ones that delve into certain aspects of a game. Because I don't know how many people that would be place interest in a game without having a good idea as to what the core theme and features of a game are. Trailers and preview videos achieve that and give people the opportunity to draw their own conclusions as to whether or not they wanna buy a game. They reveal a games merits, to where thereafter a person can decide whether or not they want to play it. Without them, who knows how many bad games one might buy.

@nofear True, I'm sure many of us choose not to watch certain videos at all because we've probably all have clicked on some trailer or preview video for a game that we were anticipating, only to come across something that we may not have wanted to see until we played the game. Then once we play the game, our thoughts get confirmed when we realize that that certain segment of the game would've been a little better had we not watched that video. Which is why I try to only watch certain trailer videos and avoid watching those that reveal certain boss fights.

@giygas I understand that and wasn't suggesting that not revealing certain content would take away from the gaming experience I just don't think that revealing certain aspect in regards to certain niche aspects of a game are gonna ruin the game as a whole, and I don't see it as being such a problem to use such strong words as it being a dilemma. True perhaps it would be better to wait until after the game is released to reveal such info. It just seemed as if the guy was saying that the game and it's meaning should be completely left up to the imagination, without there being any kind of definition given to the concepts featured within the game.

People giving an explanation on their inspiration or motivation behind featuring a certain character or enemy within a game. I don't understand the issue with it, these are video game creators right. Creating something is a process and doesn't just materialize out of nowhere, so of course the person portraying the character is gonna have some reason or explanation for doing so.

This is a silly article. I don't understand this dilemna being spoken of? Your analogy on Shakespeare teaching a class is a bad one. After all, I'm sure he wrote his works with certain ideas in mind, and if a persons interpretations were far off, then off course it would make sense for him to steer them in the right direction On top of that it's such a far-fetched example that it's irrelevent. How is a person suppose to make a cohesive game without them being able to define the themes and content featured within the game? Edited.

@dread318 So true, I completely agree with you. Those are the kind of artist that want to be looked at as being deep and profound, but really don't have any insight to offer. Just some pseudo creative type

@notquitesure he's posting them to comment on them. you have to have a dialogue about them, like how people do when they want to discuss something. Funny how people with that "don't like it, don't blah blah" type response are always the ones who give one worded, or one/two sentence responses. Perhaps because they have nothing of substance to say. You could just as easily follow your own line of reasoning and not comment on it. And yes I did the same thing right there, but that was to make a point about your own mindset.
