i dont want to spend more than $600 and this seems to be a preety good tv for the value

Yes, you can get Flat-Tube HDTVs. But if you get a Flat-Panel LCD, you wont go back to CRT ever! I think you should wait and get a 32" LCD 1080p. So, save up a bit and get one that's a little better. Yes, yes. I know, that 1080p isn't as important for smaller sets. But the prices are coming down on 1080p sets. So, it will just with.

I still have to disagree on this. I have a CRT HDTV in my game room and we have a 32" Phillips LCD 720p television downstairs in the living room. I much prefer the picture that the CRT delivers over the LCD.

Good CRTs (namely Sony sets) will beat any other technology at the size. However, crappy CRTs like a Slimfit will look a lot worse than other technologies. Also, the fact that you are saying a CRT beats a Phillips LCD isn't saying a whole lot. Phillips has not made a decent television in over 15 years. You would just be better off saying the make and model of the CRT.

You cant even tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p when your screen is no larger than 42"

Once you exceed 42" you start to notice the difference quite a bit.

Generalkill8888

The size of the screen has zero to do with noticing 1080p. It is all dealing with seating distance. If you sit at THX distances , 1080p is readily visible. Why are people so dense that they always say "you need to have a tv of X size to see 1080p". People need to stop being morons and think for a second.

What a thought, seating is the most important factor on getting the best angle of a tv, it has nothing to do with size.

seating also determines how well you can discern the difference between particular resolutions. So a 12" 1080p set would be worthwhile if you sit at the recommended distance. I am not sure what you just posted, it didn't really have a point to it.

[QUOTE="weazel1838"]dont listen to people who tell you that tube hdtv's arent any good. i was a pro at magnolia in the best buy stores and one thing i learned is that crt tv's have some of the best pictures for the best price. you have to ask yourself a bunch of questions on how this tv is going to be used. if you arent gonna get hd tv through sat or cable stick with crt, they have the best sd pic. is this mainly for gaming? if so i would jump up to the 30" sammy becuase it is widescreen and that is much better for the new widerscreen displays. crt (cathode ray tube) tech has been around for 50 some odd years and that means it is at the peak of its life. i always say i would rather buy old tech at its peak than new tech at its birth. that tv will last 10 plus years and could even reach to 20 plus if you treat it right! for a great pic gaming and tv, go with crt if you have the room for one that isrosssca

Uhhhhhh...if this isn't a credible source and a perfect answer, I don't know what either one is. Listen to this guy. Also, do some research. Circuit City's website has user reviews. Do some work!

Yes, a salesman at Best Buy is the best source. The people at best buy know next to nothing about television technology. Last time I was looking for a particular receiver in the Magnolia section that featured LPCM support through HDMI... the store had no clue what I was talking about. I think saying that you worked at best buy actually hurts your credibility. While CRT is the best display technology at the size, the cheaper non Sony CRTs are absolutely terrible. People who trust bb or circuit city salesmen should get their head checked.

[QUOTE="live4thepackers"]you'd be better off with a flat panel tv rather than a flat tubecaseystryker

on what grounds....if he has the space and cant afford to go 1080p then crts are the best picture possible.....

QFT, if size and weight aren't an issue, you'll be hard pressed to find better picture quality with and LCD in the same price range. For the price, you really can't go wrong.

You are ALWAYS wrong when you end up with a slimfit anywhere near your house. They are terrible in every regard... there is no reason to ever consider purchasing one (unless of course you are terribly unprepared for your purchase). I feel sorry for every Slimfit owner who made a poor uninformed purchase.

I hope they release an official car list. I truly enjoy when my cars are in the game... lets you get a feel of how well the creators did.

[QUOTE="M_Fresh"]Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Wat do u think?M_Fresh

5.4/10 decent tv and low end surround sound.

Dude i spend $500 on the surround i think thats good enough for my room. If I had it in the living room then maybe i would have spent a little more $. The tv will be replaced next month with a Sony XBR5.

You can't post your setup (which I think you would agree is far from perfect) and then be defensive. If you are sensitive about things being rated, dont put them in a rate my setup thread.

That is a terrible tv. It is actually the 2nd worst CRT set on the market behind Best Buy's Insignia line. If you have to be insanely cheap, go for an LCD monitor. If you have extra cash, a Sony CRT is the only CRT worth purchasing. Anyone who argues that the Slimfit is a good buy needs to get their head checked... and needs to do some research/testing.

The XBR is plagued with a cloudy backlight issue that will not be cured within its lifetime. There are a few options out there in the pricerange with fewer issues.
