I think every developer from here to timba2 and 3 have said there needs to be a price-drop for PS3 to be suceessful and to get them back to fired up to make games for the systems. Economics says that consumers will always buy the cheapest product (that's why the Wii is doing so well), since the PS3 will never become the cheapest, it must become cheaper or the 2-true next gen consoles and offer the games the consumers wants to play. Not to mention that $600 is the scariest price point ever.

what the hell is timba2 and 3?

No they won't.  Stop believing everything you read in these awful forums.  Do some actual testing before you open your mouth again.

This thread is so full of embarassingly incorrect info, that I will not even take the time to post facts since the thread has zero credability.

How much are you willing to spend and how large of a tv do you want?

If you want below 30-inch I would say go EDTV - larger go HDTV. Larger it is definately worth it -- all depends on the size tv etc so you can't go with generic answers as listed above

svenskamerikan

Why would you EVER advise someone to invest in EDTV?  EDTV is easily one of the worst major inventions in some time.

i just read an article is PSM about this. they said that the higher priced cables are able to transfer larger amounts of data at a faster rate due to HDMI technology being relatively new and getting better at a fast rate. so essentially your suppose to get a crisper, clearer, image with the higher end HDMI cable especially at the higher resolutions. now does this make me want to go out and spend 100+ dollars on a friggin cable? it sure doesn't, never would i pay that much just for a measely cable. that is just plain ludicrous to me.eitremn

You are wrong, you should edit that post and delete all the information in it.  Why would you spread something that is obviously not true?

Linux is worthless if you ask me. Don't bother installing it.EliasAlucard

It certainly is not worthless in the business, education, or any of the technological fields.  You must be a child, or have a job where Unix does not factor in?

1080p is a way to get your money. plain and simple. anyone into video will tell you that. i even read an interview with Mr. Runco. If you don't know him, his company makes some of, if not the best projectors in the world for home and commercial use. He even states that there is no difference even on large screens unless you are practically sitting right in front of the screen. Save your money. If you have 720p or 1080i stick with it unless you need to upgrade. I think what some see as a better picture has nothing to do with 1080i vs. 1080p, but more to do with the technolgy in the monitors/projectors getting better. ex. sxrd, better dlp chips, etc. i have seen my set 1080i, playing next to a new version playing the exact same movie. no difference in picture quality, but the new set had slightly better blacks. this was due to sxrd, and not 1080p.ckyro1

If you sit at THX distance, there is more than a noticeable difference.  As famous as Runco is, that man is too old to be giving video advice like that.  If you haven't done an apples to apples comparison, I don't think you should be posting.

[QUOTE="libero21"]

[QUOTE="m0ney78"]Have you checked out the Samsung S2341W? it sells in some places for $480 it does 720p/1080im0ney78

thanks, that one looks good, but do u think it would be a little small to play games on or just rite?

It's just right if you plan on playing somewhere between 3 to 9 feet away. It's a decent size, but obviously a larger size is more than welcome. Definitely more of a kitchen/bedroom/office tv ofcourse. plus its only 3 inches away from what you wanted with the quality of a Samsung one of the top TV makers in the biz.

2.6ft is actually the recommended distance for a tv of that size.
