[QUOTE="UTXII"][QUOTE="kidvelasco"]I know when the PS3 launched you could only use the 1080i resolution if your TV supported all the resolutions below.... I was wondering if there was an update or something that fixed that so TV's with only 1080i and 480i/p could use the 1080i resolution...skbmassive

Not to my knowledge but this is what i reallt want in the next update, as I am one of the unlucky who has a nice 65" CRT HDTV with on 1080i and of course 480i/p.....

It would be nice sooner than later my friend.

Back when 1080i only tvs were fairly popular, there were plenty of sets that accepted 720p as well. I think it is just shortsightedness by the consumer. Plenty of sources broadcast in 720p only, and its only right to be prepared for both.

There are many many that own 480Pa and 1080i sets. To assume that people go out and buy new televisions often was wrong of sony. Most people never change their Tv unless it goes bad.

My first HDTV supported 720p , I was merely arguing that people do not research enough before buying.  There was 720p content when those tvs came out, no one was tricking anyone else.  I also think the average lifespan of a tv in a home is something like 6 years.

so whats a bigger jump composite to component? or component to hdmi?AsadMahdi59

Composite is not even hd.  And there is no difference in PQ between HDMI and component.

[QUOTE="ArmoJan"]just make sure your CRT you are going to buy at least goes up to 1080i.jsnepo

Yes it does. I'm fully aware of some games that don'e get upscaled. Anyway, the CRT HDTV supports 720p and 1080i anyway.

Make and model ?  There is really only one CRT on earth worth buying, and it is the best picture at the size money can buy.

You would want black bars when viewing on a 4:3 monitor.  Otherwise you will ruin the picture.  HD is made for widescreen displays, and you should cope with the black bars until you purchase a set that can support it.

It is still a fact that the Elite merely added hd space, the addition of the HDMI port is pure marketing the user gains nothing.

[QUOTE="casey7672"]It doesn't surprise me! M$ will release 3-4 different versions of the 360 during the PS3's lifespan. They're already at 3. No HDD version, HDD version, and now HDMI version. What will the next 1 be, the Bluray version?eclipsed4utoo

The HDMI on the elite is completely crippled.  It offers zero audio benfits, which is half of what HDMI brings to the table.

Umm kind of like Sony with it's up coming 3rd release. 1 being obsolete already....how sad is that. At least MS gave you the choice with the 360 unlike Sony. You buy the now obsolete 20g version and you're stuck with no built in wi-fi or built in card readers. Unlike the 360 where you could always upgrade the core version to the premium with no difference except in price. At least the 360 Elite is doing more than just upgrading the HDD, unlike Sony.

please show me a press release from Sony stating a new PS3. thank you, please move along.

and the 20GB PS3 wasn't "obsolete". NOBODY WANTED IT. Why would Sony keep producing a PS3 that nobody wanted? now that's just stupid considering that they lose more money on the 20GB PS3.

I love the "choice" arguement. Here is the choice Microsoft gave me and every other current 360 owner. If you want HDMI, you have a choice. You can either deal with not having it, or pay $480 for a new 360. yeah, thanks for the "choice" Microsoft. Thankfully, Sony put a HDD in every PS3 and HDMI in every PS3 so people won't have to make that choice.

so the 20GB PS3 is obsolete because it doesn't have built-in wi-fi or built-in card readers? so what does that make all 3 of the versions of the 360....since none of them have any of those features either? Microsoft charges you $100 if you want to make that "choice".

So what if I have a core and I want to upgrade to the Elite? how is that possible?

and your "atleast the Elite is doing more than just upgrading the HDD" comment is the biggest fanboy response I have seen in a while. Microsoft made a huge mistake make a console that alienates all of your current owners.

I could be wrong, but seems odd to not mention it. however BD does support 10bit colour so its possible.teebeenz

It supports it, but there are no blu-ray's with deep color.  There will not be any deep  color content for at least a year.  There is not really a reason to even talk about it.

[QUOTE="americahellyeah"]Everything in the PS3 was made while looking towards the future, thanks to it having HDMI 1.3 we will soon be seeing newer higher resolution (1440p, don't believe look it up) and deep color. It really was an investment in the future of entertainment.teebeenz
You dont even know if the PS3 supports deep coluor (which Im guessing it doesnt or else sony would have said something), and as for a useless nonstandard res that some crap site referenced as maybe happening, meh.

The PS3 does support deep color, but no content actually utilizes it. There is only one line of tvs on the market that support deep color as well. I have the line of tv, but there is nothing that makes the xvYcc setting do anything worthwhile.
