The z5500 are great speakers and they are THX certified. I also have a Sony receiver with some onkyo speakers in my living room but I don't do anything in there. They sound great with consoles and movies even as good as most receivers. You will be suprised with the sound you get from them.

Relax... Almost anyone who is not living with their parents would offer the same opinion.  The speakers are unsuitable for almost any type of condition besides computer gaming at a desk.

I have heard them, they lack mid range, are tinny, and the little amount of bass they do have is very boomy and not punchy. I dont think they are worth the plastic they are made from.

Ok many people will disagree with you. Next time focus on helping the OP and not your personal opinions regarding the speakers.

You would be amazed at the improvement in sound quality you would get from a real home theater system.

That is pathetic.  If those are honestly your grades, why the hell are you on this forum?  Do you have some deep rooted desire to be a car mechanic?

Sony needs to wait for the average user to utilize their system.  There are way too many users in here with SDTV's and home theater receivers without HDMI support.  There can not be any major leaps until people catch up with the times.

here is a startBabblePhish

Best Buy is not a very good start at all.  They offer a very poor selection of home theater gear.  Crutchfield.com is great for beginners, but most decent gear can be found by shopping around online.

You have to at least give a price range.  Are you looking at less than 5 thousand, less than 10 thousand, or what?
