Thanks for all the posts guys.

Is a little rattling normal when you shake the 360?

I got mine back when they first came out so if there is a problem, it looks like I'm busted.

Not necessarily. You've had the unit for a good long time, ever since launch, so it's likely it'll be able to take a fall and still keep working. It's lasted for at least a good long 2 or 3 years, and that's more than I can say for some of the stories I've read about the red ring of death.

It's probably fine, if it were me, I would keep using it, but I would advise from here on in being very gentle with it.

Well I've had it replaced a couple of times so it's probably newer than that. I'm still kind of worried about the rattling though. The rattling is quite obvious.

[QUOTE="Bucketz23"]I've just shaked the unit and I hear a rattling noise. The Xbox 360 reads discs, the hardrive saves, but the 360 itself is ratting if a shake it.

What should I do about it?

Thanks very much for the reply.

I couldn't really say for sure - you could probably check the warranty on the Xbox to see if it covers this type of damage, but even if it does, if you call Microsoft support and tell them what happened they may not replace or repair it. You might need to pay to have it repaired.

I've only personally had a 360 for a few months now, so I've no idea what Microsoft's repair service is like. Best to check with the website, http://www.xbox.com/. If you still have your warranty (Not sure how old your unit is.) look at the details on it and check there first to see if you can get it covered under the warranty.

Edit: Link edited to open in new tab/window instead of same one, which redirected away from GameSpot without warning.

It may still turn on, but be sure it can still read discs, in case the laser lens may have been damaged in the fall.

If the hard drive was attached to the 360 at the time of the fall, check to make sure there are no broken pieces (such as the latching mechanism where the HDD release button is.) also check to make sure the HDD is still able to read/write.

If you had a game in there at the time, even if the Xbox was not on, check to make sure the disc did not incur any damage from the fall (it's unlikely the disc will have shattered inside, but may have circular scratches in it if it was on and spinning.)

Shake the unit - if you hear something rattling inside, chances are your 360 is damaged in some form, and if this is the case I would not recommend opening it up to find out unless you are familiar with how to put hardware back together again.

At worst, long term damage (Even if there isn't any now.) would probably be the three-light red ring of death, meaning hardware failure.

Hope this helps.

well its never good for electronics to fall on the ground..did it fall on carpet? i have a friend who dropped his down a couple flights stairs...you are prolly fine...just becarful manWMDfreeman99

Yes it fell on carpet.

I just put a game in and it's playing. However I'm really worried of the long term effects. I wanted to go and buy a couple of games tommorow and I don't want to buy them in fear that my 360 will break down/ break the discs.

I'm always really careful, this is the only time something like this has happened.

My 360 just randomly fell off of my desk. I mean it seriously leaped off of my desk and I didn't even touch it. The power cable was on a little table and the cable was off balance which threw the 360 over.

I just want to ask what damage could there be? The 360 appears to turn on, but will any long term damage come of this?

Thank you.

The only think I can think of is a Router or actual Connection settings problem. I can't help withthat though so I'd recommend you go to Xbox.com and sift through the help section or ring Customer Support.Gregoroth

I think I'll play on the 360 some more and see if it busts whatever disc I put in.

I'm more worried about the disc problem than the xbox live problem.

Sorry for this, but I'll just bump this thread because the quicker I know what might be wrong the quicker I know what to do.

How old is your 360?

Do you get disconnected from Live in all games or just a few? Does it log you back in later on or do you have to go back to the dashboard and manually log back in?

Raz0redge

My (third)360 is a year old.

I get disconnected from all games. If I go back into the dashboard and manually log back in it just disconnects when I load a game up again.

I'll answer all questions.

I moved the Xbox 360 from upstairs to downstairs (bought a new 42 inch plasma TV) two days ago but no disc was inside and the xbox 360 wasn't running. I never move the 360 whilst a game is inside and the xbox is running. The xbox 360 was stationary and it randomly happened.

As for the Xbox live question. It seems like it is trying to update itself but I never get a message that says "Would you like to update this game" It just disconnects and never reconnects.

Thank you.
