Youre assuming you DONT have free will...? But you do. You dont have to do ANYthing if you dont want. You could sit and starve to death if you so choose.

And also, we argue and fight about things that we CHOOSE are important to us and our lives. Thats hardly wrong. Its also because we all are born with Ego's.

Kryptok

I agree that we have free will to do nothing, but we can't do EVERYthing that we may WANT to do.

And I wasnt born knowing my name, or what race I was, what was good or bad, what social class i was or who the president is or anything. I learned all of those things from other people.

All I am trying to say is that maybe it is time we start learning things on our own, using information that we know, and choosing the path that our own hearts lead us on, and not someone elses.

Well again, youre assuming that most people are NOT choosing the path that their hearts lead them on. And thats very subjective anyway. Your idea of a happy life could be very different from mine. Basically what i hear you saying is, lets all stop going down THAT road there, and all go down this one instead.

And i think free will is defined a little too literally. By default life means nothing, because at the end of it you cease to live. The only way it gains meaning, is when we give it meaning, and define certain things to mean something to us. So i think its not free will to, for example, flap your arms adn be able to fly. Its free will to interpret/define what your life means to you.

[QUOTE="mexicangordo"]"Heart of Darkness" Back then when it was written, it was a fantastic book and praised upon....But now, if it wasn't for some high school classes (which is extremely ironic) most people would have never cared for the book. It's so epic, no book has ever got me thinking so much since 1984 or WatchmenLockedge
Good selection. I'll nominate Oryx & Crake, a book that even goes relatively unheard of here in Canada(considering it's written by a Canadian). Amazing book. Incredibly well written, and one of the better examples of having a near-perfect fusion of message and story. I rarely ever see Gravity's Rainbow in people's "top books" or "book I'm reading" lists. That should be better known. "House of Leaves" is another terrific readthat goes somewhat unnoticed. And finally, while Haruki murakami is pretty well-known, I'll give a shout out to The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles, because it's a fascinating read, and I don't think I've seen anyone here mention it in a few years.

Man gravitys rainbow was amazing when iwas understanding it. I didnt get far because i didnt have the time to sit down and read it. Its not like the average book :P

Simply put, what do you think is the best movie of all time?

I think it's tough, but I would probably go with Saving Private Ryan. That said, there are a lot of truly excellent movies out there :D.

I dont think i could pick one. Having said that, prepare for this thread to turn into a top 10 list of good movies thread.

:o You should sue the kid who hit you!Curlyfrii87
Yea that is def. not cool he caused hearing loss. Badass you dont care what people think about the hearing aide though because why should you? Do you know sign language? I remember hearing somewhere they were going to try and start teaching this in schools as a requirement, which i think is pretty neat. I wish i knew it...

^^ And to add to the above post I think they have a thing called the cochlear implant which restores hearing. It can seem a little bulky but with time no doubt it will be much improved upon.
