I'm Back!

 THE NIGHTMARE IS OVER!

Thank God.  I'm sooo happy to be back.

Just a quick HELLO out there to all my friends, whom I have missed terribly!

I will tell you all my tale of woe in the next few days.  Bottom line I am now using a PC and I vow to NEVER shop at Best Buy again.

I am going to write a long AND NASTY letter to Apple, whom I blame for starting the whole horrid tale.

I just wanted to change my banner and my OLD Christmas (!) blog.

I MISSED ALL OF YOU BIG TIME!!  :D

hahahaha!!!

Just in case....

Still cleaning out my computer, trying to make backups of all my files. I had originally 592 assorted music files, but after weeding out the ones I put on from my CD's, I got it down to about 380. NOW I gotta try and burn 'em all. I think I'm going to have to lose some of them. Boy it's hard work. Next time I think I'll be more prudent in my file maintance. I got a Hell of a lot of crap in here! *SIGH*

A couple of movie files I had saved, I was planning on posting a bit closer to Christmas, but under the circumstances, I thought I better put them out now. It's very possible I won't be online for X-mas!

You may have come across them already, they were and are very popular, but if not enjoy! They are the kind of thing that puts a grin on your face. I love them.

They are video's of Christmas light shows done in sync to music (listened in your car on an FM freq.) made by a man in Ohio by the name of Carson Williams. He is an electrician by trade and using a special computer program and hours and hours of wiring came up with these fun shows! The first is done in tune with a wonderful band by the name of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The second is Jingle bells by Striesand I THINK, but I am not sure at all. It sounds abit to jazzy for her. Does anyone out here know who the singer is? I think that one is somehow better, only because it is really toe tappin'. Almost a scat kind of jazz take on Jingle Bells. She almost sounds like a Mel Torme graduate!

Be sure to check them out! ENJOY!

And if I am not back in time, allow me to say now.....

May you and your families all have a truely wonderful, happy and safe Christmas Holiday!

Major Malfunction....down for a while.

I've been having some computer problems over the last week. I've discovered that my eMac is one of thousands that have some bad capacitors.

As you can see, the component A is supposed to look like B. Apparently Apple got some bad parts and are repairing/replacing the bad machines as they come up. My poor eMac is one of them as you can see from the photo I took. It also is within the serial number range. So, I'm going to be busy doing some major backups, and getting rid of some passwords etc. before I take my machine in.

I just wanted my friends out here at tv.com to know where I've gone, because, from what I've read, it may take as long as 10 WEEKS! to get this corrected.

One good thing I've read is that apparently it is cheaper for Apple to simply replace the eMac with an iMac and there's a chance I might get a better one for a replacement! *crossing fingers*

And, if you know of anybody that has an eMac like me, let them know about this. Here is the link: APPLE eMAC

This also applies to some G5 iMacs: APPLE iMAC

I mention this because I didn't know about this until I started having video problems and began to research the problem. If you or anyone you know has an eMac or iMac check out the links and see if it is within the s/n range. And be wary of any kind of video problems etc.

Anyway, tah tah for now, and hopefully I'll be back soon.

A Happy Thanksgiving My American Friends!

I know it's a day early, but some of you are travelling Wednesday or probably VERY, VERY busy cooking and entertaining, so I wanted to be sure I caught you.

I've come to realise that to American's this holiday is even more special and speaks more about family than Christmas or any other holiday. I believe it's the most busiest travel days in the year. Oh and don't forget to watch one of the best Thanksgiving movies of all time, Planes, Trains and Automobiles! Hilarious and touching!

And also have a good laugh, at the actual video for the infamous WKRP episode:

"The Thanksgiving Turkey Drop"

Ironically, it is the domestic turkey that can not fly, wild turkeys apparently are very good flyers and can attain speeds of 50mph, although they only usually go no higher than treetop height.

Turkey gone Wild! At least they don't taste as bad as they look!

By the way, the turkey snooze fest after dinner is actually not really because of tryptophan. Apparently when eaten as a large meal such as Thanksgiving, there isn't enough tryptophan to compete with all the other amino acids trying to get into your body!

Your drowzyness is a result of the large meal consisting of high and complex carbs, such as potatoes, gravy, squash, pumkin pie etc, making your body work hard a digesting! Add a few glasses of wine, beer or booze and it's good night Irene!

And finally:

Have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!

 (but remember.....you are what you eat!

Some Saturday Afternoon Musings....

Thank you all for your concerns and get well wishes. I am feeling much better. My meds are finally kicking in!

Sadly, I noticed that on this date in 1978, the infamous Jonestown Massacre occured.

I remember it made such headlines. No one had ever seen such a thing. The sad thing is that quite a few refused to participate in the drinking of the poisoned coolaid and were either forced to do so at gunpoint or hunted down and shot! Of the 913 dead, 276 where children.

I remember seeing that chilling video of the attack on US congressman, Leo Ryan and the NBC news crew that went with him down to Guyana.

I still remember seeing the camera fall to the ground, still filming the murders, as the cameraman, Bob Brown lay dead. Chilling.

On a happier note, I found this really cool thing called the Baby Name Wizard. It's surprisingly addictive as you type in all kinds of names, it tells you how popular the name was for any given decade. It is kind of cool and has very well constructed database! Anyone out there expecting a child or know anyone expecting will find it fun. You can imagine why some names were popular at different decades.

A lot of 20ish Ryan's and Ashely's owe their names to the popularity of some soap opera's. Of course the Helga's, Gertrude's, Edward's and Zelda's were all the rage back at the turn of the century (1899-1900)

Can you tell what boy's name has been the most consistantly popular? It took me a while to guess.

And to offset the rather gloomy item above, I offer some funny pix I've found recently.....

Ho-Hum....

Not much to say, just wanted to change my blog, afterall, Halloween is over.

Haven't been doing much here as my diabetes is acting up, my blood sugar is a tad high making me out of sorts.

Just enjoying the colours of fall.

Even the pumpkins are sick of candy!

For Me it's the Eyes....What Scares You?

I was going to post a really scary story and searched the web for “the worlds scariest story” and really found nothing to my liking.

That got me thinking. Am I so jaded that nothing scares me anymore? I mean, I don’t get really scared at “horror” movies at all. I might get disturbed or grossed out, but never truely SCARED. Not the way I used to be when I was younger.

I’ve come to realise that what creeps me out are eyes. If they have some kind of un-natural eye thing happening, then it scares the crap out of me. Same with odd features like smiles, head shapes etc. But mostly eyes. Brrr

Either that or good solid psychological creepiness. But it has to make sense. I hate when they make stuff up to suit the story.

Some really good movies are: Tales From The Crypt (1972)

Starring Sir John Richardson, Joan Collins, Peter Cushing. Very smart, clever, creative, and very, very good. Some good jump out of your seat moments!

28 Days Later

Raw, smart and very very creepy! Mr. Sardonicus Freaky, wet your pants face!

White Noise Eerie and subtle. With Michael Keaton. Very well done. Horror Express The creature with the RED eyes! Very spooky movie Brrr! Island of Terror Creepy bone sucking turtle monsters! Creep Show Masked with humour, but very well told. DON'T OPEN THE CRATE!! Alien A very creepy haunted house in space! Night of the Living Dead (1968 ) The original and best one.

Trilogy of Terror (1975 TV) --Pic1 Pic 2 Karen Black attacked by the fetish doll with sharp teeth and a butcher knife! Hide! Silence of the Lambs--The movie wasn’t that scary, but Hannible Lector and his creepy stare was a total freak-out! FFFFafa Beans! It’s not just movies that can be scary as Hell. I have found some video games, what are called the“Horror Survial” genre in which you have to figure out how to get away from the nasty gross and very creepy monsters. They are so damned realisic that it is very prudent that they have ratings.

Kids should NOT play some of these games.

Resident Evil--This one TOTALLY freaked me out. I had to stop playing it. i thought I would have a heart attack! It is the scariest game ever made. Silent Hill--I played it, and it freaked me out but I finished it. I had nightmares for days later. not as scary as RE but still pretty damned spooky! The movie was more gross & disturbing than scary. Alone in the Dark--Very similar to RE. Damned scary. Jurrasic Park (N64)--I know, but it freaked me out hearing the dino’s growl and roar behind you. It was the first game to scare me. (I was only 3, so there)

What also scared the crap out of me as a kid was I Dream of Jeannie !! What creeped me out was Jeannie’s Eyes! in the begining cartoon after she goes back inside the bottle! It scared the Hell out of me.
:D

Psst! Come here....

So, the question of the day is......What scares you?

Monsters? Knives? Animals? Ghosts? The Devil? Aliens? Also, has anyone had a unexplained, weird occurance? Ghosts, spirits? Something move or have you heard any sounds, or voices? Oh, and have some fun by making up your own TOMBSTONE! Do one for Osama, your boss or perhaps your Belief in Government!

 ~~ ~~ ~***~WKRP~***~~~***~~***TAXI~***~~~~~~****BSG:TOS

In the wing's~***~~~***Friends?~***~Different Strokes! So here we see WKRP in Cincinnati, Taxi and Battlestar Galactica all debutting this year! Wasn't it fun to have them grow on us. I wonder if, in today's "reality" and "gritty" television they would have survived?

WKRP and Taxi were funny as they get, and sometimes covered issues of the day. I remember WKRP covered censorship, on the episode were the right wing zealot wanted them NOT to play Lennon's "Imagine"! Taxi was supposed to showcase Jeff Conaway but never really did. There were some nasty vibes about that on the set, I remember hearing about on a "behind the scenes" show. His character never really quite grabbed us like, Latka, Louie or my favorite: Rev. Jim!!

He made an appearance in the 1st season in episode 8, "Paper Marriage", and would join the cast permanantly in Season 2! My favorite episode: Reverend Jim: A Space Odyssey

It has without a doubt, one of the FUNNIEST moments in tv comedic history, the famous "yellow light" bit! If you've never seen it, you are in for a major treat! What a great way for a great character to be introduced!

And, WKRP also had a classic episode too! The notorious Thanksgiving episode: ”Turkey’s Away!” Here is that famous moment.....

(it’s a big mp3, but worth the wait! Hilarious!)
”Live from the Pinedale Shopping Center!"
Equally famous and funny is Arthur Carlson’s hilarious line.....

(small wav...quick and funny!)
”As God is my witness..."

It’s said to be based on a true story from a similar radio “giveaway”. I recall vaguely, when Les or Carlson came back they said that the surviving turkeys mounted a counter attack of some sort.

:D Good God this is a funny episode! :D

I have included a blurb from the back of the issue. It talks about shows they keep in reserve to cover the inevitable cancellations. One I found odd was a show called "Friends"!? The description even vaguely sounds like a rough idea of the more famous show! But it was an ABC back up, so who knows? Maybe they fleshed it out more and took it NBC years later?

The other is a little show called Differen't Strokes. They say it didn't even have a premise yet that's how raw the idea was! Little did they know, eh?

My little sister has finally joined the tv.com family! She goes by the nickname: Lanimeerel.
She's new to the wonders of TV.COM and if you like, stop by and say hello! She owns a television machine and can be quite eloquent!

~Theme by John and Nancy Barry

Hear the Theme!
Already into it's 3rd season, One Day at a Time would go on to a 9 season run and end without being cancelled!

It was a funny show, and while I liked the characters, I didn't care for Bonnie Franklin, as I heard a lot of stories about how difficult and nasty she was on the set, with contract disputes, tantrums etc. She even had them fire an actress for upstaging her. I think she did a great job as Ann Romano, but she was too much off the set.

Of course they had major trouble with Michelle Phillips and her coke addiction, for which she left the show for rehab, but then was fired after relapsing a year later. I will admit it now, I was totally in love with VALERIE BERTINELLI !

I had her picture in my wallet for years! She was so damned cute, and nice. *SIGH* Then that lucky SOB Eddie Van Halen got to marry her. I was crushed.

In lieu of a puzzle today, I was inspired by IndianaMom's blog the other day, when she offered a wordsearch. So, I thought you might like to do the TV Guide crossword puzzle. Print it off and have fun.

I don't have the answers, but April Fox, believe it or not has the very next week's TV Guide with the answers to this crossword! What are the chances? Excellent! If anyone should need the answers, she has offered to make them available! Brilliant! Good on ya AF!

But, surely, a TVDOTCOM member wouldn't need the answers? :D

EASTROTURF (ee'stroh'terf) n The fake grass in an Easter basket

TV Guide Part 3-Shazbot!

1978

That was the year that the wacky, "stream of consciousness" comedian Robin Williams became the wacky, "stream of consciousness" alien Mork!

Ok, so it wasn't insightful, biting, satirical humour. It really wasn't political, or even remotely scary, spooky or creepy. It was silly fun, a vehicle for Robin Williams to do his thing.

His thing being make fun of our foibles and idosicrosies in a fun, good natured way. What a better way to do that than as an alien that, in his attempt to understand us, mimics and parodies us in a kind, good natured way.

While this type of show wouldn't go over too well in today's cynical, jaded world, you still can't help but laugh at some of the stuff he came up with!

Shazbat! NaNoo, NaNoo with that sideways Vulcan handshake!

One of the best moments was when they cast Robin William's idol, Jonathan Winters as his son! (People from Ork aged backwards!) Now the show was a double barrelled shotgun of nuttiness!

Of course Robin Williams would go on to bigger and better things, win an Oscar, make some really good movies. But the "Man from Ork" was great stuff!

The funny thing is that "Mork & Mindy" was a spin-off from of all shows, "Happy Days" ! (Talk about Jumping the Shark!)

What I mean by that is while Mork & Mindy was what it was, you gotta wonder why they would have an alien show up in that show! It was supposed to be a nostalgic look back at the '50's!

Notable things in this issue:

Friday Latenight

11:30pm "Johnny Carson: Wasn't this one of the best ever? Great show and great host. Tonight has guest host David Brenner with: Lola Fallana (where is she now? Great talent), Cheryl Tiegs, and Stan Kann the Gadgetman! Wasn't his bit being nervous and clumbsy using the gadgets?

Now here's a weird thing.....

at 11:30pm you've got Robert Blake in "Barretta". 20 minutes later at

11:50pm on channel 9 you have "In Cold Blood"

at 12:00am his "Electraglide in Blue"!

It's an impromptu Robert Blake Fest! Funny, but I remember him being on Carson and always having that unlit cigarette, while trying to stop smoking.

Wasn't his catch phrase: "And that's the name of that tune!" ?

Too bad about that murder. He was aquitted, but you know theres more to that story. I always liked him and his acting. He's really weird looking now-a-days, with that white hair and spooky eyes.

1:00am Give you "Midnight Special". Tonight has Paul McCartney and the Wings, Cheryl Ladd (she can sing?), Little River Band, Anne Murray among others. Wolfman Jack was the host! Aaarouugh! (Wolf cry) .
