I dunno, I think maybe I'm getting old......

So, I guess it's progress, but what do you guys think? Monopoly (at least in England, coming soon to North America) is going modern. They will be making the game with NO MONOPOLY MONEY! *sob* The game will have a special gizmo and "ATM" cards that you can fill and debit. When you make a transaction the gizmo has the proper transaction punched in and you swipe your card. Bingo! You just bought a hotel for Park Place! Pass Go and swipe your card! (Mind you, nobody wanted to be the banker, 'cus that meant having to sort the money and clean up at the end.) Also, on the community chest and or Chance cards, instead of things like, "winning a beauty contest" you will win a reality tv show instead. Yep, I feel a wee bit older today......*sigh*

Hot news from Science!

***NEWS FLASH!! SCIENCE DISCOVERS NEW ELEMENT!!*** Washington (AP)-The recent hurricanes and gasoline issues are proof of the existence of a new chemical element. A major research institution has recently announced the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science! The new element has been named *GOVERNMENTIUM*. Governmentium (Gv) has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A minute amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take over four days to complete. Governmentium has a normal half-life of 4 years; It does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, Governmentium's Mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes. This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass. When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium - an element which radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.

My First Blog is a sad one.....

I've been waiting for something to blog that might be interesting to others, and sadly, I find that on this grey, rainy blustery July afternoon, that the passing of some of my favorite actors/entertainers adds to my gloomy and morose mood today, weather notwithstanding. Unfortunately, the wonderful June Allyson, the always familiar Bernard Hughes, and Syd Barrett, a founding member and influential songsmith of Pink Floyd, have all left us. My favorite roles for Ms. Allyson was in “The Glenn Miller Story” and “Strategic Air Command” opposite Jimmy Stewart. In her later years we saw her on TV in countless series, like The Incredible Hulk, The Love Boat, Simon & Simon, Hart To Hart.....such a nice woman with a sunny happy smiling face. I always loved the way her eyes and nose scrunched up whenever she smiled! She will be missed. Who doesn’t remember Bernard Hughes, who, over his 50 year career, usually played a grumpy, curmudgeonly, but likable grandpa, judge or CEO. He won an Emmy in ‘77 for a role on “Lou Grant”. I loved him as the old hippy granpa in “The Lost Boys”. All the old Pink Floyd fans like me, will fondly remember Syd Barrett, who was the heart and soul of the band, who’s influence is felt by the likes of David Bowie. His lyrics are cerebral, wistful and obviously drug influenced, but very trippy! Some of my favorties: See Emily Play, Arnold Layne, Bike, and Astronomy Domine. Shine On, Crazy Diamond. RIP
