I have been a fan of the Space Empires series for several years. Since about 1998, I guess, with Space Empires III. I was horrible at that game, and never played a human opponent. Space Empires IV took some getting used to, but I played Play-by-Web with the very enthusiastic gamers over at Shrapnel.

The new Space Empires iteration came out late last year. The initial build suffers from several technical problems and many of the glitches have been fixed with patches. This is the third or fourth patch since release. If you are a fan of turn-based strategy games, a la Master of Orion, this is your best bet. I wasn't enthused by Galactic Civilizations, which is a matter of taste.

Currently, I am playing Dominions 3 (PC), Oblivion (PC) and Final Fantasy XII (PS2 on PS3).  Yes, I crumbled to the media juggernaut Sony and bought a PS3.  I haven't owned a Playstation, so I am getting older games to enjoy.
