Minecraft - SO addictive.

Hey all,

Today, for £8 I bought a premium account to Minecraft. One of my friends has been playing it for a while and he has gotten so addicted to it recently (check out his Minestorm Youtube Channel here) so I decided to check it out :) So far I'm really enjoying it. For those of you that don't know, Minestorm is an open world game with no objectives. You build stuff with the resources around you, and just have fun. So far, I've built myself a nice little house; however, annoying monsters keep exploding it  which means I currently am mining a route underground so that I can get to my house safely in the night from my respawn area.

Only problem I have with the game currently is it's SOOOOOOOOOO addictive. I'm trying not to play it too much, cos I don't want it to take over my life :P

Anyway, just thought I'd share that :)

William Basinski - 92982.4

I heard this song today and felt I had to share it with someone. I've always heard about William Basinski but I've never really checked him out. He is a drone artist, who experiments with electronic music, especially in the fields of tape loops and feedback, creating elements of noise. I love this album, but specifically the song '92982.4'. It just puts me in another zone. Lovely sounds. Unfortunately, there is no sign of this specific song online, there I will have to link you to 2 of the others on the album, which are still beautiful. 92982.192982.3

Enjoy the music, and stay open minded x

Music Recommendations Vol 1

Wassup people :)

I haven't been on Gamespot in approximately 117 years, so I figured I should come back :P
A while ago I said I was gonna start music blogs to educate anyone of more awesome music :D
Bare in mind that my music taste is very odd - for one thing, some of the stuff I listen to is very experimental.
In one blog post I could range from Lady Gaga to the most disturbing noise you've ever heard :D
I've stuck in loaaaads of links to various pieces of information to give you guys the education you deserve :D

LET'S GO ^_^

1) Equilibrium - Blut Im Auge

You'd be forgiven for passing that image off as 'just another boring metal band'. Personally, I've never been a fan of metal. Well, I have. But I mean, not just any old regular heavy metal. And it's times when bands like Equilibrium come along and make me fall in love with weird ass metal all over again. Viking Metal. Pagan Metal. Folk Metal. Those are all terms that have become reasonably popular in the music industry over the years due to the likes of Alestorm, possibly the first ever famous 'Pirate Metal' band. Equilibrium take this kind of genre and simply make it 10 times more awesome. Just listen to Blut Im Auge and you'll see what I mean :)

2) Lone - Banyan Drive

I've always been a big fan of dance music, however there's only so much radio friendly poppy dance music you can put up with. Sure, you get the occasional amazing mainstream dance band such as Pendulum or The Prodigy, however I always like to mix things up a bit. Ever since I discovered and incredible musician called Aphex Twin, the term 'IDM' (or Intelligent Dance Music) changed my world. It introduced me to loads of new artists trying to follow in Aphex Twin's footsteps. However, this can obviously get boring - people being sheep and not trying to do their own thing. This is what I love so much about Lone, a musician my friend put me onto. The music Lone creates sounds like a hip-hopversion of Boards of Canada, one of my favourite ever IDM bands. The grainy poly-synths just sound beautiful. I recommend this to anyone just wishing to chill out and forget everything :)

3) Aphex Twin - Rhubarb

As mentioned before, Aphex Twin is my hero. He is the most influential electronic musician EVER (IMO) and he is the inventor of one of the greatest music genres ever, IDM. He writes loads of bizarre complicated music, and has a discography the size of France. However, on top of all of this, his incredible composition 'Rhubarb' will always be my favourite. One of his few Ambient Drone songs, this is THE song to listen to on your way to dreamland. Seriously, every time I listen to it, all my troubles just float away :)

4)TheFall of Troy - A ****c Case of Transference#

I don't listen to much rock music these days, in all honesty most of it bores me. However, there will always be bands like The Fall of Troywho keep me interested. The vocal range of Thom, the articulating Drums Bass and Guitars, and the pure frontman-ness of Thom. It's incredible. I never got a chance to see them live before they broke up, but watching them live on youtube was simply incredible. How he jumps around, playing mental guitar riffs AND incredible singing is beyond me. Lovely band with a whole discography of hits :D

5) Melt-Banana - Cat Brain Land

Melt-Banana are rock hard evidence that Japan is awesome. One of the noisiest, weird rock bands I've ever heard, their various genres pretty much sum them up. "Noise". "Experimental". "Noisecore". This band are MENTAL. But they're so much fun. Everytime I listen to their blistering tunes I just get inspired to go absolutely crazy and write the most ridiculous music ever. Seriously this band are insane :D

Please take the time to listen to the music, it took a while to put together but I enjoy educating people :)

That is all xx

Back on track with Zelda

Right, for those who read my last blog post, I accidentally deleted my file on Ocarina of Time ¬____¬
Well, those of you who know me, I am a terrible at sticking with games, and normally if this happened I would forget to ever go back to the game again. However, I was determined to continue as I want to complete a Zelda game by the time Skyward Sword comes out. Anyway, I'm back on track already :D I'm about to go and get the final spiritual stone, so that's all good :D

Sticking to the one game for now :)

That is all x

Argh!!!!!

Hey guys,

Sorry, it's been a while. Anyway, let's cut to the chase.
After spending quite a few hours on Ocarina of Time, I go to load up my file to get the final spiritual stone and...

I ****ING ERASED IT :'(

GRRR, So annoyed with my clumsiness. I started again and it's much easier now that I know what I'm doing, and I'm trying to enjoy it. But god damn it, I was really enjoying it and then that happened! :(

That is all.

100th blog post :) :)

Hey guys,

As the topic says, I just realized this is my 100th blog post! :)
I'm gonna be honest - I'm not doing anything special for it. Just another blog post.

Recently I've been through yet another phase of not gaming much. Well I am still trying my best to get back into it :)
Today I went into town and picked up Spyro: Enter The Dragonfly on the Gamecube for £5 in a secondhand videogame shop. To be honest, I regret this slightly as I've only just learned it may be a terrible game, and I could probably have got it cheaper elsewhere. But to be honest I'm ignoring the reviews, I'll play through it and try to enjoy it :)

That is All.

Metroid Prime

Hey guys,

Ages ago I bought myself Metroid Prime on the Gamecube for a couple of quid on eBay. However, I never really played it properly because I got put off by the first level - I thought it was literally that metal environment for the entire game, and thought it would be a boring journey.

So anyway, I started playing it again last night. After beating the first boss and evacuating, I suddenly realized how much adrenaline the game had pumped. So I stuck with it for longer, and was pleasantly surprised when I saw the 2nd 'world'. I can't remember the name, but there was grass everywhere, and the world after that was sand, so that really kept me into the game :)

Funny story how I went about doing this... my band recently did a gig, and we've started to get our first groupies :D
There's this one chick who is my age (15) and has a huge love for video games, the same music as me, the same movies and tv as me, the same crazy personality, she's awesome :) anyway, she started talking to me about the gamecube so I decided to get my games out again :) so yeh, that's cool, I'm going to town with her later (:

That is all for now.

Calum

Life Update :-)

Hey guys,

Quite a bit has happened recently, so I'll fill you all in...

School

On the 7th I went back to school for my final year in secondary school (or high school as you american's would call it :-) ) I'm staying pretty on top of all my coursework and exam revision, so that's great. I've started thinking about colleges and universities already! I know I'm only 15, but I think it's always good to think ahead! One of the university courses I've been considering is a Music with Japanese 4 year course. How great would that be!? My two favourite things into 2 qualifications!!!

Music

On the 18th of July my band The Shydogs got our first proper gig! We played in a bar in our local town, and it was pretty fun. Certain things like the sound didn't go perfectly as planned, but the audience seemed to enjoy it. WELL this was nothing compared to what we would see on the 5th of September! We got a second gig and we had all just gotten back from our 6 weeks holidays, therefore we hadn't practised in a while. We practised twice (once on our new drum kit :D ) and in the end the gig went AMAZING :) We were performing to complete strangers this time - none of our friends were in the audience! Yet a large group of them went crazy, despite never hearing our music! They made a human pyramid  and ran around dancing to our music. It was awesome :) We even got an encore in the end! Also, we've been offered a gig at someone's party where we'll actually get paid! We've also made some fans recently. There are 2 girls called Carly (19) and Sam (13) and they are both strangers who love our music and stalked us down on the internet.

In other news, I have some more work! I'm making 3 tracks for my mate Stephen's video game and getting paid £100 for it. YESSSSS.

Japanese

Right, big news. I've stopped using My Japanese Coach on the DS! :O
The reason? I now have an awesome course on my computer with Rosetta Stone, the best language trainer ever! I'm really enjoying it so far so I'm hoping my Japanese will improve smoothly from here on.

Gaming

Now that I've stopped playing My Japanese Coach I'm gonna start investing some real time into DS games such as Dragon Quest IX. I love that game!!! I'm also continuing to play through SSBB :)

That is all.

I'm Back from Canada :)

Hey guys,

Well, I've been back from my holiday in Canada for 7 days now, and have only just been bothered to blog.
I had a wicked time, I wanna go back so bad!!! Kayaking was my favourite part, it was so exciting :)
In a previous blog post I wrote how I was looking forward to spending the journeys playing Dragon Quest IX. Well, I'm sad to say that I didn't play it once through the whole trip! Bad times :/

But yeh. Now that I'm back I've started gaming again. I started Subspace Emissary mode on Hard on Super Smash Bros. Brawl three days ago, and I'm loving it all over again! I'm 33% so far. If anyone fancies a brawl send me your friend code :)
I've also become incredibly determined to continue learning Japanese. I just found out one of my best mates Oli is learning it too, and he's taking a university course where he has to go and live in Japan. Therefore, I've finally got someone to help me learn! WOO! I started revising last night, and I hope it'll go smoothly from now on :)

I'm also going to continue playing Dragon Quest IX. It's so accessible - on the plane journey back from Canada I gave it a play for 1 hour and I presumed that it'd be hard to get back into (like most RPGs), but it wasn't! :)

That is all.
