Why is it everyone wants to see the death of AMD/ATI? I mean hell, we need the competition or we will have to rely on who? SiS? Anyways, just because one card fails doesn't mean it is the end of the world. I mean heck, it happened to NVidia back in the day and it was bound to occur to ATI eventually.
And people saying "Too bad you guys waited for the 2900, you wasted six months that you could have gamed with the 8800."
All I have to say is who cares? A lot of people were either waiting as they weren't ready to upgrade yet or have a card that can handle games at the moment and wanted to see if it would be worth the upgrade.
Also, don't say you saw this coming. You aren't a specialist in the field of Marketting and shouldn't try to act like one. Hell, when you say "LMAO, ATI got pwned" or "Told you idiots that you would happen" you come off as a fanboy. I mean, I like the best bang for your buck and all but I hate reading posts that ooze fanboyism
Anyways, we will have to wait to the future to see what ATI has on its way.
[QUOTE="RayvinAzn"][QUOTE="jfelisario"]Yeah I was expecting that for the xtx though, we've had stories about the gddr4 memory "not cooperating" months past, and how the xt beat the xtx is kind of a no-surprise.

I was expecting instability, not a complete and utter failure. And I'll admit that I was hopeful that those issues would have been resolved.
1) The card was 6 months late. You do not delay unless there are major issues. It wouldn't make sense.
2) The merger of 2 major companies kills focus. Do the employees know if they have jobs still? Do they know what their focus is supposed to be? Are they reporting to new Supervisors?
Finally,
ATI has officially confirmed
ATI said in front of 150+ journalists that the R600XT won't be able to compete with the Geforce 8800 GTX. The dream is dead and Radeon HD 2900 XT won't be able to catch up with the six month old Geforce 8800 GTX.
ATI said that R600XT, Radeon HD 2900XT has about the same performance as the 8800 GTS. Radeon HD 2900 XTX won't be launched in mid may and will be delayed to Q3 2007.
The dream that AMD can do something and return as the high end market leader is gone. R600 trails against G80. Congratulations Nvidia.
To really get an idea of how screwed they are we need high res benchmarks. It sucks AMD paid so much for ATI. It seems a waste right now and has put them into a horrible position.
Got a link to this announcement? I'd like to read it myself.
Also the lack of games I want to play on the PC. Sure I am enjoying STALKER but that's the first really cool game for PC alone in like a year IMO. The game I'm looking forward too the most is Forza 2 and if it lives up to the first one I'm going to buy a 360 instead of spending that money to upgrade my PC.
And there is a little lesson for you guys, did you hear how I said I would buy a 360 AFTER Forza 2 was out?? That's so I can read the reviews first! I'm not going to buy a 360 before the game is even out. And all you people buying hardware for Crysis before it's even out are wasting money.

I agree that they are wasting their money if it is only for Crysis but then you have to look at the people who were building a system anyways and said "Hmm, maybe I should make it so I can run Crysis with all its bells and whistles while I can" In my opinion, Crysis looks like it is just a graphical game with very little story/gameplay and games only sell if they have the gameplay to back it.
I read on other support forums that this issues is the result of a Realtek Sound driver loading into the memory address that is required for that .dll.
Try downloading this update and see if it corrects the issue.

Hate to ask but, why the hell do you want 8gbs of RAM??? Upgrade your CPU if you have that much money to burn, LOL.dtrem1
Some people want that much memory as they are using a lot of programs at once and keep switching to them. Just because they are running doesn't mean they are using the processors power all of the time while in the background. I do agree that 8 GB of memory seems excessive but if you got the money and want, then go for it.
