Every franchise that ever touched playstation has been cursed since it's gone multiplatform with M$. And thus is why Sony is so smart and bravely making excellent first party that isn't run of the mill crap! Look at Final Fantasy XIII.. Ever since both titles released they were met with mediocre reviews since then but compared to their predecessors it's a flipping joke. http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/13/square-enix-cut-a-games-worth-of-content-from-final-fantasy-xii/
They had to cut it all apart to fit in onto 3 DVDs where as the original game that was intended for Blu Ray could have really brought the true open world genre defining franchise to the masses. Such a shame
Because M$ went cheap and didn't go with a next gen format to begin with they brought FFXIII to the 360 and scrubbed it in order to get sales.. I do blame square really but look how much money M$ paid them for exclusives that really got them nothing.. The Last Remnant, Star Ocean for a year, and Infinite Undiscovery. I mean M$ paid SE to milk the genre with mediocre games to come in time on a inferior console for the genre. FFXIII really sent mixed signals amongst their fanbase and was a silent indicator that M$ screwed these games over. Square is obviously at fault and the quality suffered dearly for it.

yeah. i'm sure the annoying characters, bad writing, and bad story had everything to do with the dvd format.
The game suffered as a whole because of it. The probably had a ton of loose ends which clearly got slapped around with confusion. it's like Square didn't even know how to provide the game for its medium on the Xbox. They honestly should have made it download only and fit the original intended vision of the game. Oh but wait M$ gave everyone only 13GB to work with from the start and forced custom HDD to the market and nearly $200 so that clearly wasn't an option...Bad writing leads to the ton of loose ends, I know it hurts to blame Square, but they are not the same, they been going down hill before the 360.
