@PlasmaBeam44 @Claudu Yes, but that game ends before it gets boring. It's also focused on its core elements and executes them very well. It's a fine stealth game, just like Bayonetta is a fine combat game, Gran Turismo is a fine driving game and Mario is a fine platformer. That's what I'm getting at. I prefer focused games that master its core elements and offer a smaller, but more refined and intense experience.
@ @mikees1 I played every GTA game and I had a few hours of fun with every one of them, but that's about it. After that there was no force to these games that would drive me to play them any further. The only open-world game that I had fun for a longer period of time with was Just Cause 2, but even that became boring after a while.
Good for people who feel like they're on an adventure in open world games. For me most of them feel like regular games spread out vast but thin and flat. You mess around and have fun for a while, but you soon start to notice the "copy pasted" nature of those open worlds, nothing is unique, everything is a mix of the same and limited number of elements that make up the game. I'd take a more focused, linear "start to finish" experience any day.
@Timmy_Gwar @Claudu @Grenadeh That's how this kind of terrain looks. I wouldn't call it bleak. There are no grey-brown filters or anything. It looks as it's supposed to. We'll probably see more variety anyway. Besides, I think you're mistaking "bleak" with "not over-saturated". Because that's how games look these days. They're either super colorful or depressingly brown and grey. MGS 5 just looks... normal.
@Grenadeh @Claudu I wouldn't agree. I think it looks pretty damn good. As I said, it's not as advanced in terms of effects as CryEngine or Frostbite, but IMO it has a lot more realistic colors and lighting. If you look at individual elements they are not super impressive, but the overall look and feel of the visuals is stunning.
I like the look of this engine. It seems to be the only next gen engine that doesn't focus on pushing as many graphical effects as possible and showing as many details as possible. I mean, if you look through the window the world doesn't look as vibrant, sharp and detailed as some game engines try to make it. You just don't see every tiny detail from every angle possible. Not every game needs photo-realism ofcourse, but I'm talking about the ones that try to achieve it.
I hope they release KH2 Final Mix HD or whatever as well. Along with all the other spin-offs like Birth by Sleep and whatnot. I did 100% in both KH 1 and 2, but I felt intimidated by all the side stories scattered on so many platforms and kinda gave up on the series. But if they manage to somehow gather them all in two HD compilations for ps3 then that would be a great opportunity to get ready for KH3.
I love MGS and 5 is probably my most awaited game on the horizon along with Dark Souls 2, but Kojima he shot himself in the foot with those comments. He'll understand that in time I suppose. Japan is a very different country and culture and not everything about it is great. When it comes to women they're like Italy, but less cheerful-pervy and more creepy-pervy. Also, fan-service is super important in Japan so saying that you design characters with cosplay and figurines in mind is something very positive. But understanding all that doesn't change the fact that Kojima is not catering for Japanese fans alone (he himself stated many times that Metal Gear is more popular in the west) and he should understand that we may not like or tolerate that kind of approach to character design. The game is still probably going to be awesome though.
@D3MON47 I wouldn't say so man. I know GTA has its fans (a lot of them), but I remember when I bought GTA 4 while waiting for MGS 4, it was still like a month away and I gave in to the hype. GTA 4 was supposed to be such a grand, open and fun game, but I got bored to death after 3 days and started replaying Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Ofcourse this isn't a story about how GTA is bad. It's a story about how the next big thing is different for everybody. For some it's GTA 5. For me it's MGS 5 and Dark Souls 2.
I agree that this was a very weak generation for japanese games. But you know what? Most of my favorite titles of this gen are still japanese - Demon's/Dark Souls, Deadly Premonition, Bayonetta, Nier, Metal Gear Solid 4, Ninja Gaiden II, Ni No Kuni, Tekken 6 & Tag 2, Xenoblade Chronicles. Sure there were also awesome western games, but the ones that were most popular (AssCreed, CoD, etc.) are crap compared to any of the aforementioned titles.
@Cloud_imperium @Claudu @Quarkzquarkz I liked both Amnesia and Penumbra, but (at least for me) it's hard to be afraid of even the scariest monsters when I know that I can just try again without losing anything at all. Being able to save all the time is pretty much like having infinite credits in an arcade game. It kinda kills the "survival" aspect of survival horror.
