10. Shannen Doherty (90210, Charmed) So she stars in Beverly Hills 90210 for 4 seasons, so after she leaves turns out the show becomes more popular in the ratings, and then she gets a second option to star in the show "Charmed" on the WB with Alyssa Milano. Well due to her conflict with Milano she ultimately left the show, she recently starred in Dancing With the Stars where she was the first person to be eliminated from the show. Really smart there!
9. Sherry Stringfield (ER)- So she's on ER for like 3 seasons, the show is doing phenomenal in the ratings (#1 show on television) but due to the hectic pace she decides to leave the show ouch, eventually though she did come back to ER from Season 8 through 11 before ultimately departing. So she is on a hit tv show and decides to leave during it's Peak and then only later comes back when the show's main character decides Anthony Edwards leaves, that was bad decision timing on her part, but hey she came back.
8. Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy)- She on a very popular drama, "Grey Anatomy" wins an Emmy for her role and then gripes about the lack of "Emmy Worth Material", and pretty much vouches to leave the show. Ouch, is it any wonder why she was released from her contract. She did star in the massively successful and good "Knocked Up" But now she seems to start to diss that franchise and hold onto doing crappy romantic comedies. Good move!!
7. Kal Penn (House)- Kal Penn is the Indian actor known most famously for playing the role of Kumar in the Harold and Kumar episodes, and after a few episode stint became one of the many cast of characters in the hit show House in 07. So what does Kal do nearly 2 seasons later? He decides to leave House to work for President Obama in the White House, ultimately allowing the writers to kill his character and never bring him on again. Considering he was an good actor who brought ethnic diversity to House and yet he decides to quit? Come on Kal, are you just going to be in Harold and Kumar movies?
6. David Caruso (NYPD Blues)- So you're on the hit show NYPD Blue during the 1993-1994 season, win a Golden Globe for your role and you decide to leave to make movies?! As preposterous as that sounds it's exactly what David Caruso did when he left NYPD Blue including starring in movies like "Kiss of Death" and "Jade" does anyone remember that? Ultimately his career was salvaged when he took on the role as Horatio Caine in the comically bad CSI: Miami.
5. Suzanne Somers (Three's Company)- Three's Company is a funny, silly, slapstick farce. But Suzanne Somers struck up a controversy in 1980 when she demanded more money during the show's 5th season. Ultimately her tactless negotiating which included her increasing her salary from 30,000 to 150,000 (with 10% share of the shows profit) made ABC ultimately fire her. Although ironically enough she would later return in the series Step By Step and also catapulted by the success of "StairMaster" but she'll always be synonymously related to leaving a funny show during it's peak.
4. Shelley Long (Shelley Long)- There is something about that 5th season eh? Well actress Shelley Long probably a better actor then everyone on the list (She won a freaking golden globe and an Emmy) decided to leave the hit show Cheers in it's 5th season during the height of its popularity. For what? a movie career? Well turns out her movie career goes nowhere and Cheers sails off for another 6 seasons and continues to dominate in it's time-slot. She did find some success playing a TV character on the Big Screen (Mrs. Brady) in the Brady Bunch movies but other then that not much else, like let's say Kelsey Grammer or Ted Danson.
3. The Idol Curse (American Idol )- You're on the Most popular show on the planet and you quit?! Well that's the case for two of the stars of American Idol. In the case of Dunkleman he quit after the 1st season (during the Summer of 2002) however for Abdul she quit after the 2009 season to start her own series, guess what no new series has been created and as for her career well we are still searching for it because currently it's on hold. Not the best decision she could make, especially considering how Idol was still the #1 show without her. But for Dunkleman pretty stupid decision.
2. Jonathan Taylor Thomas (Home Improvement)- So you're on the show "Home Improvement" and during the final season you decide to quit to focus on your studies? That's great and all but when you start to star in badly made movies it turns out to be kind of a problem. That's what happened to Jonathan Taylor Thomas, one of the Stars of the Popular Home Improvement but yet during the last season of Home Improvement. Now that would be great but souring your relationship with the show that started your career by not appearing in the Finale, well that tells you something. So Mr. Thomas how has your career been since I don't know 1999?
1. Lisa Bonet (Cosby Show/Different World)- The Cosby Show was the epitome of the 80's sitcom, it was constantly ranked in the #1 time slot every year from 1985-1990, yet one of the stars of the show Lisa Bonet began to cause some trouble with Star Bill Cosby, don't mess with the "Cos!" Well turns out Cosby decide to be kind and give Lisa her own show, "A Different World" so she stars on that show for an entire season before leaving because she's pregnant, Whoops! She leaves a TV Show that Cosby created for her because shes pregnant so she comes back the following season to the Cosby Show and after a 2 year stint she gets fired due to creative differences (Strike 3). Granted the Cosby Show lasted only more season without Bonet but her decision to leave the show in it's peak and past it's peak is playing dividends now that she doesn't have nearly as many roles as she once did.
