My GameStop/TV.com/MP3.com...2 Year Anniversary

Aloha Everyone! :)

Hard to believe that it has been 2 years since I registered with CNET Entertainment. Over the course of those 2 years I saw friends leave the site for presonal reasonor being banned, and being able to meet knew friends. I saw staff come and go at TV.com. Plus saw how the sites have really changed, especially TV.com.

Thanks for stopping and have a wonderful day! :)

GameSpot's Temporary Emblems

Aloha Everyone! :)

As most of you know, the special holiday Turkey Emblem has finally received the axe at GameSpot. I know that the emblem was special for those as to receive the emblem you had to log onto the site on Thanksgiving 2006. The emblem receive the axe a long time ago at GameSpot's sister site, TV.com. So I can see the reason why it needed to go. Emblem hounds would be demanding special emblems for holidays as there were the talk about a Christmas emblem at TV.com in one of it's forums. This would lead to creating pointless emblems that really isn't needed. To tell you the truth, the Turkey Emblem was created by two CNET employees for good fun and appearead on TV.com and GameSpot. TV.com removed it despite users wanting it gong, but GameSpot kept it.

Now...this leads to the Pie and cake emblems as users learned from JodyR that they are only temporary. Yes...it's a nice emblem, but really they were created for fun and should be only temporary.

I'd rather see new site improvements, features, and content over having a temporary Holiday and Special emblems for just logging onto the site on the day of the holiday or responding to a poll. I'm pleased to see that JodyR made the announcement that certain emblems will be temporary as some are just pointless and clutter up the emblems that actually mean something more.

So really...what would you rather have...a silly pointless emblem for not really doing anything but logging onto the site or responding to a poll, or a site that is better than it is now with new improvements, features, and content? If you pick emblems...what can GameSpot do to make you happy? What ever you do...please don't flame the staff for removing them.

DS Download Station...What's the Point

Aloha Everyone! :)

Have you ever gone to a store where there is to be a DS Download Station to have the system not being on or not even in the store? Reason is, I went to a GameStop the other day to try and download some demos onto my DS so I can try them out since there was a Starbucks next door. I tried to locate the server to download to the demo to find nothing. I asked the clerk, how can I download demos onto my system? Clerk replied we no longer have the system here anymore or the Nintendo rep took the old demo cart to be replaced later. So I go to another GameStop to be in the same predicament to see that the store also is in the same boat. I tried a Walmart to see that they didn't even have the system on, and the clerk didn't know how to work the Download Station System since it is completely different than the DS System. Go to a Best Buy to find out that an employee took the demo cart since the demos on it are for old games. I go to a Kmart to see that they don't even have one, despite the store has a sign for the Download Station. Try another Walmart to see the demos are for old games like Brain Age, Metroid Prime Hunters, and Tetris.

Therefore...Nintendo what is the point to have a Download Station if the store doesn't have an update copy or even have have the Download Station System, or have demos that are of upcomming games? All I see is that it can hurt sales of your games for those who may want to try out the game before buying it, and make some people a profit by selling the demo carts on eBay. So I ask you...why not bring back the demo units of the DS with the store being able to put an actual game in to try. Yes...I know some stores have demo DS systems, but not all of them.

Thanks for stopping and have a wonderful weekend! :)

TV.com On the Blink

Aloha Everyone! :)

Has anyone noticed that the queue system is on the blink at TV.com? I noticed that I had 3 submissions in my queue, then all of the sudden there are no subs. I also noticed submission that never been in my queue are appearing when they were made over 4 or 5 days ago. I wonder if submission are going into the master queue, then later appear in editor queues when staff realize the show has an editor so they have to put them in our queues to be moderated. To make a long story short about how I noticed this was that I received a submission today that was made4 days agofor a new episode. The submitter provided a source (name of site) but really didn't give the exact place to find the info. Therefore, I had to go to that site to try and find it. When I came back to try to approve/reject it, the sub was gone.

In other news, I received 3 new emblems at GameSpot for watching the live feeds of Microsoft (yesterday), Nintendo (today)and Sony (today) news conferences. Microsoft is releasing a special edition system for Halo 3 and new remote for a a game called Scene It. Nintendo is releasing a Wii Balance Board which is neat for a game called WiiFit. That game is a fitness game. Sony announced a price drop for the PSP and releasing a lighter PSP. All systems: XBOX 360, Wii, DS, PS3, and PSP are going to have some really good games that are coming out.

Enough of that...anyway...if you are an editor would you reject a submission that follows the guidelines for adding a new episode if the submitter provided all 3 (Title, Summary, and Air Date with source), over another user who made a submission before you but only provided the title and air date? Reason is, I received a rejected submission again froman editor that I had issues with before. My sub again contained all 3, but the editor rejected itbecause someoneelse submitted it before me but their sub only had 2 out of 3. Note: I'm not mad at the other submitter, as I did contact that person since the editor did mention the user in the rejection. I contacted the other user to make sure the editor was actually telling the truth considering what happened previously. Thanks goodness Jaxie is contacting the editor of the guidelines since what he/she did should not have happened.

Anyway...thanks for stopping and have a wonderful day! :)

P.S.

Yeah...Finally It's Gone

Aloha everyone! :) The pending submission I could not get rid of in my queue is finally gone. Guess the submission went into the master queue for staff approval. I just hope there isn't a bug with the CPs for this, as I already accepted the submission once when I was able to see the submission, then tried rejecting it when it came back in my queue as a blank submission. Therefore, hard to say if it was accepted blank or rejected because it was blank. Then again, the tech staff could have fixed the issue of this bug, since it made it's appearence when the new submission system was launched.
Thanks for stopping and have a wonderful day! :)

Ug...Cast/Crew Form

Aloha Everyone! :)

So far I really dislike this new cast/crew form they have for TV.com. Seems that one is only able to add a few cast/crew at a time. I made a submission adding stars, recurring stars, guest stars, and crew in one submission. Seems that a few crew was added but no recurring and guest stars added. Therefore, I made another submission to add the recurring and guest stars. I noticed a bug that seems we can't add a new star. I tried adding one and it comes up blank with partial name of the role. Have no idea how to remove it...so if someone is able to add Kara Taitz (Millicent) to the episode "Sink or Swim" for "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" go ahead and try to see if I'm able to accept it. Keep in mind if you are able to remove the one that says Mil as the role, as that was what appeared when I tried adding the actress.

In other news...seems that a couple trolls from another Disney show forum decided to attack users for the Disney show I edit. Sad thing is, nothing was done to forewarn the forum those trolls came from. Ironic...as the same show caused issues in that past that placed a "Board War Warning" on the show I edit but not the other show. Seems that show can get away anything. Luckily a user sent me a PM so I was able to lock the thread before anymore issue arise, and post a thread about ignoring and report the trolls, and not going to the show they regularly visit by trolling/flaming them as we don't want a board war. An important note...if you know the name of the show...please don't troll and flame those user who regularly vistit that shows forum.

Have a wonderful day! :)

Edit: TVTome_Shadow tried adding the guest star for me, since he is a TU for the show. Sad thing is, I was able to see Kara Taitz (Millicent) in my queue, but on the guide it showed up as Taitz (Millicent).

New Submission System Up & Running...odd

Aloha Everyone! :)

I noticed that when I came on that I saw that I had two submissions in my queue, despite I thought that TV.com was to turn off the submission. Well, since there were two subs in my queue, I figured I better moderate them, before the info is lost. When I checked the trivia submission I noticed it no longer stated the episode the submission was for the show, but still tells you what the target is (show or person). It now mentions the type of data being contributed as blurb if it's a note, trivia, or a quote. I don't know about summaries or bios as I haven't received any yet. I also noticed that editors are able to "Change Submission Type", as it is below the editor comments. So far, I don't know if there are any other new features that are still coming for the queue, as I'm only posting what I saw. Lastly, there is a new url to the queue which is now this:

http://www.tv.com/mod/queue/

In other news...I see that submission for people guides being made at FilmSpot are now showing up in the editor queue at TV.com. I also know that when I made a bio submission at FilmSpot the submission appears in your submission history at TV.com instead of FilmSpot. I inquired about points being added at TV.com and danmod mentioned no points will be added to your CPs at TV.com. I was testing the bio system at FilmSpot to a guide that I have CPs for at TV.com and noticed no CP update which lead to me asking danmod about the CPs.

Thanks for stopping and have a wonderful week! :)

Just Really Great

Aloha Everyone! :)

As most of you know, I tried to submit an episode to a guide that has an editor to have the submission to be rejected. My submission followed the submission guidelines by having 2 out of the following 3: Title, Summary, and Air Date, with a reliable source that is a link. As you know, my submission contained all 3 with a reliable source to a press release which was a link to a site owned by the studio that produces the show. Well, I checked out the guide today to see my submission added to the guide. Isn't that really nice. The editor rejected my submission because he/she didn't care for the summary. On the guide however, the episode has no summary but has the exact same title and air date I provided. It probably isn't worth complaining to TV.com staff as they just give the editor a warning, but like I said in a previous blog, I knew something was up when the sub was rejected. Sad thing is, I have no idea if the editor made the submission. So what is one to do?

Thanks for stopping and have a wonderful day! :)

A Warning Label for the DS Browser

As some people may know Nintendo release the Opera based Nintendo DS Lite Browser in the US earlier this month at retailers across county and it's Phat version online at Nintendo.com. After going to the forums at GameSpot, I have seen threads with topics about using the browser only for porn. The sad thing is, the DS Browser doesn't have an ESRB rating on the box or a warning label. I've been to a Walmart to hear a young child about the age of 10 saying to a friend that he needs to find his mother so he can get this, after overhearing a teenage girl stating she'll use it for porn to her friend. Later on...I see the kid with his mother buying the Browser, so the kid without the mothers knowing that he can use the browser for looking up porn. Granted the Browser has a filter to block out such searches and images, but unknowingly parents may think it's just a game.

Considering there have been issues with games and the ESRB ratings, as I'd use the game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas". As most of you know, the game received an ESRB rating of M (Mature). When the announcement of a hack called Hot Coffee, the ESRB gave the game an AO (Adults Only) rating. Recently, Rockstar's game "Manhunt 2" was given an ESRB rating of AO, and is banned for sale in the UK.

So this brings on the question...considering that the Browser can be used by minors to view porn should it have a warning label on the front of the box?

Wow...that was quick

Aloha Everyone! :)

I'd like to thank Jekyll for posting a comment on information about how to add a game to the GameSpot database. I went to the forum in which had the thread about adding games. I checked out the first post of the thread for instructions on what needed to be done. I saw that the game I was tying to add was already on the database for GameFAQ's, but not GameSpot. Therefore, I requested the game to be add by providing the proofand providing a link to the box art. Once that was done, I just had to wait...and the game was added to the GameSpot database with the box art I provided the day I requested it. Here is a link to the game:

Human Grand Prix: New Generation (N64)

In other news...

I see that the Level 1 bug is still presentat TV.com even though a lot thought it was fixed yesterday when the levels came back. At GameSpot I was able to add other Imported games that I own to my collection, and I see another game that I have is at GameFAQ's database but not GameSpot's, so I guess I'll have to request it to be added once I find box art for the Japanese (which I own) and the US version of the game.

I haveanother GameSpot question. Has anyone ever submitted a banner for a game? I was wondering, since I heard that userswere onceable to submit banners. I was thinking of trying to make a banner for a couple games that don't have a banner yet.

Thanks for stopping and have a wonderful day! :)

~Edit~ I also recently requested to add a game that wasn't on GameSpot's or GameFAQ's to be added to the database to have it instantly added within an hour. Talk about quick.
