Hey everyone I need help please. I had been having problems with my pc not turning on. Well it finally turned on but then none of the USB ports worked. Finally one day I noticed a weird smell (burning maybe) and my computer was off again. Now I can't turn it on at all and I'm ready to start over.

I think the problem is the mobo but maybe it's the PS, I'm not sure. My 1st question is if it's the mobo should I keep my current processor or get a new dual core one? I currently have a 3.6 Pentium D (I'm pretty sure) and a decent PCI-e video card. I only really play WOW and it seems to run really good almost maxed out. So I'm not really thinking about changing that. If price-wise it isn't that much to get a new, better processor and mobo I don't mind doing that and would actually be pretty excited. I have 1 gb of ram so if it would fit in a new mobo I would upgrade another gig. Or I could just replace the mobo and keep everything I still have. Oh, the ONLY thing my new mobo MUST have is wireless network ability. Or I guess I could just get a wireless card (argh too many possiblities)

Could I please get some advice? Thank you!

Ipods are evil... go for a zune... the 180GB ( i think :S ) are liek.. $250.00 or somethin

I used to think they were evil too because all the teenagers I work with wanted one just because they were the "it" thing, and I hate that! But if they sound good and are what I'm looking for I guess I'll just have to join the evil Apple empire then!

Oh my, I love watching those Bose commercials and then doing a search on their products! Sorry but no way can two speakers and a fake sub reproduce what my 6.1 system can! Sorry but no way (not trying to sound snobbish)! That's actually become somewhat of a hobby for me. If I'm up late I'll watch all these pathetic informercials and then search on the products the next day. The reviews are good for laughs and you realize why they generally aren't found in stores. But on to the subject...

I found the 604 wifi and the IPOD in the same price area, roughly about $165 (refurbished, which doesn't bother me), so I guess no more than $250. I bought my current model for $600 and then was ticked off when after only a few years the company wouldn't fix it. But oh well!

I mostly listen to mp3's that I have burned from my CD collection, I still prefer having the actual disks.

Hey everyone! My old Archos player is dying and I need a new MP3 player so I am asking for advice. I mostly use my current player in the car because the battery won't hold a charge anymore (thank you cigar lighter adapter) so size isn't really that important. I am looking for:

at least 30 GB of disk space

would rather have a traditional HD (hard disk) that SSD (solid-state disk) for price

playing videos would be nice but not a deal breaker

Price is a factor

I want really good audio quality (I paid for good aftermarket speakers and a system so I want to get the most of them, and I can tell a difference)

I don't buy songs online because I prefer having the actual CD in case my electronic collection is corrupted. So any included online store isn't that important

I don't have any good/bad thoughts concerning an IPOD. If that is the best for me than that is what I will get. However I won't buy one simply because it's "APPLE" or an "IPOD". I've been looking at the refurbished IPOD classic at the APPLE website and it looks pretty good (it can play regular mp3's, right?). I've also looked at a refurbished Archos 604 wifi.

Any help/advice would be great, especially about other products/companies. Have a great day!

I remember begging my parents to order a subscription to Nintendo Power simply because you received a free game, Dragon Warrior. I had never played it, seen it, or heard of it but it was a new game and that is all that mattered. If I remember correctly the subscription itself was not cheap, but that free game was all that mattered! When the game came in the mail I hated it, much too slow for a kid to play, but now Dragon Warrior is my favorite series.

A lot of you have commented on the price of games and only getting a couple each year. I cannot remember how many times I would rent a game at an old "mom & pop" video rental store and absolutely HATE the game! I always tried to rent at least two at a time because I knew one would be completely unplayable.

Also, thank goodness for garage sales and people selling old games! So much cheaper than getting them used at a game store and sometimes, if I knew the people, they would let me take the game home first before I bought it.

Those are awesome memories!

Thanks for all the help! Finally called Asus and they said to return it under warranty. Now I just hope I can get it out of the case without hurting anything else and get the CPU out ok. Have a great day!

I tried all of that and still no go. One of the first things I did was check the BIOS to make sure USB was enabled, and it was. When I installed some of the files you mentioned above I could tell that some of the same things were being loaded again, i.e. network drivers and stuff. I keep wondering if it's something inside the computer itself but I'm using the ports built-in to the motherboard so I don't know what could be the problem there. It's just really frustrating loading software and then having to reinstall everything again. Unless you have some more ideas I guess I need to call Asus again tomorrow. I'm assuming they're closed on Sunday, but I might try anyways. Thank you!

Ok, I've worked some more on the problem. I went to the Asus website and found the downloads for my mobo, but didn't see anything with the description of "chipset drivers". I did find that on the install disk that I have, but I had already installed those. I went to Intel's website and found drivers for my chipset, installed those, and nothing changed. Finally last night I reformatted/reinstalled Windows XP again and now I'm back where I started from. I also have gone into Device Manager and uninstalled the drivers for my USB ports, did a hardware change scan, and then reinstalled with no difference, still no use.

The weird thing is, and I don't understand this, is that I took one of my wireless mice (or is it mouse's when talking about computers? lol) and plugged in the USB dongle, and in one of the USB ports the LED on the dongle lit up and remained lit. But only in one of the ports, and Windows didn't load it. And I'm plugging everything into the ports attached directly to the mobo, not any on the front or top of the case.

So in review, am I looking for "chipset drivers" or BIOS drivers when I go to Asus' website? I even called them and the guy I talked to told me to do this and that but I couldn't find what he was talking about when I went back to my computer. I think I might try them again later today (if they're open) or tomorrow night maybe. Thanks for any help that's out there, have a great day!

Oh, and to add to my predicament, I'm being forced to use an oldddddd Dell two button mouse, no scroll wheel, and certainly not optical! Help me please!

Pardon the ignorance, but what are those and how do I do it? I installed Asus updater from the CD the mobo came with. I tried running it but it was really slow, is that what I need to try again?
