Anyway, As I Was Saying...

Finally got rid of that cold, so I'll elaborate on that weird ass post :P. Basically, it was a waitress' last days here, so most of us got together to say our last goodbyes before she leaves for Germany with her husband. Of course, I was drunk within five minutes, smoked about two packs in the span of three hours ( which is probably how I got the cold  ). Anyway, if there's any good out of this, I'll give you guys words of advice when you guys catch a cold: Comtrex and Emergen-C (a powder drink you put in water...tastes like sour ass, but I kid you not: this thing works great! :D). Other than that, been playing some Vampire the Masquerade (and damn, this is one of Activision's most creative games...what the hell happened to them all these years? I almost forgot how awesome they were back in the day before saturating their money makers! :o). Anyway, what you all been up to? :D
Give Me A Few Days...

What's worse than having a hang-over the next day? Catching a cold :x. I figured that beer would "kill the germs," but I guess not. Anyway, I'm a little under the weather right now, so please don't take offense if I'm not around to comment on your blogs for the next few days . Seriously, I prefer not to mess around under these conditions. I'll get more into detail when I feel a little better, but for now, let the ninja hibernate (that's right...we can dodge bullets, but can't escape the common cold) :P.
Irony...
by DethSkematik on Comments
Sort of ironic as a diabetic in a strip bar yelling, "gimme some sugar!" my co-workers pointed out one thing: I got this amazing desktop that breezes through today's games...and here I am playing ones from a decade ago . It's true that no one has a right to point fingers at how I do my hobbies, I just found it rather funny. I mean, what can I say...once I figured out how to run ancient software on new programs, I've been seeing what I can toy with lately. Heck, I'm trying to find a way to change my OS from Windows 7 to Windows XP and back to 7 just for the hell of it :P.
On another note, no luck with the 3D glasses...the only ones I could find in Best Buy had the fine print "only works with Samsung TVs " and didn't want to chance it. No doubt it's nothing more than some marketing propaganda, but when employees had no clue what I was talking about (if 3D TV glasses work with PC games...I really can't get any more clear than that :|) I just decided to order a pair from Nvidia just to be on the safe side (freaking $200, man! My Aviators didn't even cost that much! :o). Anyway, I'll probably end up ordering it after my next paycheck...stupid me went a little spend crazy with the debit card again, and I've got no clue how much money I actually have in my account . Don't follow my ways...still, living the single life is good 8). (although the trade-off is that I no longer have any discipline about my reckless budget, or manners...buying a $90 cigar lighter and not getting slapped for farting in public? I'm living the good life! :P).

Before Online Updates...
by DethSkematik on Comments
I used to balk at the idea of my PS3 constantly updating my games (and on PSN, they take FOREVER! :x). But now I look at it like a godsend...I never got around to appreciating machines doing things for me until today...I was playing my Vampire the Masquerade game, and boy is this damn thing buggy! I mean, some main quests couldn't be finished because the dialogue option wasn't there, or a door that was supposed to unlock wouldn't, the list goes on...yes, I had to go out of my way to look for the latest updates and manually install them. First, it was textures that lacked detail (which so happens to affect things like writing on the walls to my health meter) then what I've stated before...well, everything's good now, but here's the scary part: these are un-official patches, meaning that while the devs dropped support for the game years ago, I'm actually thanking those nice guys, who are gamers like us, who spent all that time fixing the game and sharing their labor.
On another note, been playing Mafia as well, and I'm pretty suprised on how well this game holds up. The graphics are still mind-blowing for a game this old, not to mention the neat little touches added: your car can actually run out of gas, police will chase you for speeding or running a red light and actually ask you to step out of your vehicle as you watch a cutscene of a cop writing you a speed ticket (although you'll see a cop actually write with an "invisible pen and paper." Remember, this game is OLD! :P). Still, a game way ahead of its time, and making me even more excited to play Mafia 2 :D.

Steam, You Are AWESOME! :)
by DethSkematik on Comments
Well, I logged onto Steam on my cellphone today, and nearly crapped my pants on the spot at work: pre-order Mafia 2, and get the original Mafia for free. Seriously...in my eyes, Mafia is THE greatest crime drama (videogame wise) that easily tops the GTA series. Heck, I still got my disc "somewhere" in my room, but it's about damn time I got the DD version. Well, that's strike two for me: first, VTM: Bloodlines finally works on my computer, I have Mafia in my digital collection...now all I need is someone to sell American McGee's Alice on Steam or D2D (seriously..what's the hold up!? :|). Anyway, if you haven't, I suggest you get the game...I mean, let's be honest, I find it next to impossible for Mafia 2 to bomb (and the original is a masterpiece that shouldn't be missed!)...and you have the extremely short time period of a month and one week to get it :P. Like they say, it's an offer you can't refuse 8).
I Cannot Believe This! :)
by DethSkematik on Comments
Well, after years of owning the game, I finally figured out a way to make my beloved Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines work :D. I'm a little bummed out that the Steam version I had for years is unworkable (I launch the game, and get this...the app says "cannot find Steam" :|), but bought the Direct 2 Drive version and works as perfectly as it did years ago (all I had to do was adjust compatibility to Windows XP, and at the expense of not being able to see the Activision logo, just as good as I remember it...and no more of that god-awful glitch that says I'm low on memory :?). Anyway, I'm thinking of getting Psi-Ops as well, another old favorite that I haven't played since the PS2 days. Hell, I'm just completely ecstatic that I get to play this game yet again! :D Brings a lot of great memories when I used to "borrow" my mom's old laptop and stay up until 6 a.m. playing this thing (yeah, as you can see, gaming is my crystal meth since I was a kid). Well, I'm pretty sure we've all at least heard about this game at one point or another...as old as it is, I still highly recommend it (suprisingly, I'd go as far as to say the graphics are on par with today's games...although a little stiff in animation. I kid you not, some female NPCs have that man swagger when they walk). But I'd say get it just for your action RPG fix. Yeah, now you see why there's a cult dedicated solely for this title ;).
Do...I...Dare!? :O
by DethSkematik on Comments
Well, I just found out my desktop has that 3D stuff packed in (honestly, I did not know until now! :o) and I'm seriously wondering if I should give it a try. More specifically, do I really want to blow the $200 on a pair of glasses to see what all the buzz about stereoscopic 3D is? I'm guessing the glasses you use for the TVs would work on a computer (if it doesn't, please help me out...I have no idea about any of this :D) and if that's the case, I could stop at Best Buy and pick up a pair. I know I've said I wouldn't buy into this 3D gimmick, but since it's already pre-packaged on my video card, I may as well give it a shot. I'm leaning towards just getting it, and if I'm not impressed by it, at least I won't feel burned as if I intentionally spent all that money to make things pop out of the screen, right? :P.
5 Day Drinking Binge, Over!
by DethSkematik on Comments
Let me just say I got drunk more times than I played at the casinos . I mean, eight beers a day for five days, add on a two dollar tip per drink, and...well, :o. I have to admit though, not bad for someone who never drinks 8). Anyway, never did meet June, but someone BETTER! I mean, seriously, the most gorgeous black waitress I've ever seen! Elssa was her name, and damn she was beautiful! And to keep up with tradition, gave her a $20 tip for my last beer on my last day...I'd like to say this was a tragic moment, but she was already married . Anyway, not much I did, ironically...most of the stores I've known and loved either went out of business or changed so much I lost interest. But, I did come home with a crap load of new shirts (lo and behold, I finally found a Danzig t-shirt!! :)) and four different ash trays, and someone convinced me to blow $80 on those electronic cigarettes. Which aren't that bad, actually...I doubt I'll quit smoking, but at least I can smoke in my mom's house when I visit now 8). Ironically though, I get these bad coughs when I take drags...which I don't get when I smoke a regular cigarette :?. Anyway, it's been fun, but I doubt I'll be going back any time soon...I was pretty bored out of my mind this whole week. Other than shopping for new clothes and other stuff, really nothing much that wowed me anymore. Heck, the greatest memories I have was being impared and watching my mom hit the jackpot...that's right, I lost money, and my mom actually hit all the big stuff :o. Well, it's good to be home, back on GS and I'm actually ready to go to work.
Viva La Resistance! I Mean...Las Vegas!
by DethSkematik on Comments
Well, I'm done packing up, finished my last day at work, and heading out to Vegas tomorrow! :D Kind of sucks that the netbook I just ordered comes the day I'm leaving :x but I've got somebody to take care of that (although I was planning on toying around with it on my vacation :(). Anyway, there really isn't much to describe...chances are, if you're my age or older, you surely experienced Sin City at least once in your life, or heard about it millions of times that I'm just blowing smoke :P. Still, it will be a blast nonetheless...free beer, able to smoke indoors for a change, and hopefully run into my favorite cocktail waitress June (seriously, it's been two years...hopefully the woman still remembers me! I gave her a huge tip at the end of the night! :x). Anyway, take care guys, and I'll see you all in a week!
