@StickyJr1: That's not the one I was referring to, I meant the Shia Leboeuf meme (it was used as a spoof DLC advertisement for Sonic: The Lost Worlds). Essentially things that are already accepted as parody, and blatantly show that there's no serious endorsement from whatever is being supposedly infringed. That's the purpose of copyright law to begin with; to make sure that no one mistakenly thinks you're endorsing something with your brand/image/etc when you're not, since not going after those people could make people mistakenly associate your brand with an inferior unofficial product. .
@sonictank: Did any of the streams actually show near end-game? All the Star Ocean games are incredibly linear for at least the first-half of the game before opening up (while you can choose different characters in SO2 early on, the sidequests were just backtracking to previous towns rather than exploring new areas), so expecting an open world from the get-go is rather unreasonable.
@r31ya: No, no they don't. If the person making the parody makes it clear that the thing being parodied is not actually investing in the person's product (which in this case is obvious), then they're in the clear.
@nabinator: Doesn't matter if it's youtube poop or an official ad, parody is parody. Sega did a similar thing with the "Just do it" meme, and PETA annoyingly does it all the time (though in a malicious manner) whenever a Pokemon game comes out, and neither company got sued.
@Frogster8: You were complaining about something you obviously had no clue about, and pretty much admitted with the "provide the information you have" comment. Instead of whining next time just because you see a variant of the term "paid", do your own research.
@brn-dn: Try and think before assuming things. They are obviously coding either pokebank or Sun/Moon so that if they detect a Gen-1 pokemon, the pokemon will be updated to fit the current standards.
@Ateas: Huh, well I'll be damned, there were actual dual-types in R/B/Y o_O. Could've sworn there were only one type, but that's faulty memory for you. It still doesn't change the fact that the mechanics changed significantly between Gen 1 and 2 enough that it was impossible to transfer over Gen 1 pokemon as-is, and a majority of pokemon that are now dual types were single types in Gen 1 (such as Magneton)
@brn-dn: First-gen pokemon games used a completely different system when determining pokemon stats and types; for example, all pokemon were single-types, and gold/silver couldn't simply transfer the original pokemon over without using a special system that converted the pokemon to the new version.
Since the first-gen games were being treated as they originally were (the old system) and we're now 7 generations ahead and thus the new typing and such is wholly different, it's not really surprising that most people (including me) assumed it would be too much trouble to transfer pokemon from the VC versions of R/B/Y into the newer games.
