Call of Duty isn't popular because of its fluidity, it's popular because of its simplicity: anyone can pick it up and start killing people without having to think at all, and apparently that's what people are looking for in a game.

No. Just no. lack of choice would mean that they can do whatever they want with that one console, and you would have to either buy it, or get out of gaming.

Agreed, some things should be left single-player. Elder Scrolls, Deus Ex, Mass Effect (although I love the co-op).
