[QUOTE="syndrome83"]hey guys, im new here. lemme introduce myself im 13 years old and i need help my mom wont buy me an xbox for christmas. does any1 know how i can convince my mom to buy me one, plz? i came here cuz this is a gaming forum and i know u guys support video games and stuff and you guys probably had some xp with dealing with this. so can some1 give me advice, plz?? i wanna play halo, call of duty, gears of war and guitar hero. i dont have any new systems except a DS and a nintendo wii but im bored of nintendo and all of that kiddie sh!t. so can some1 plz help? any help is welcome. thanks yeah i posted it in another forum but an admin found it and locked the thread and said that i should come here and post it. so any advice?

Since most xbox 360 games are M rated, I don't blame your mom, though I played my first M rated game when I was about that age (resident evil 4, GC version). I didn't get my xbox until I was almost 16, and before that I played nintendo games. Did you try bribing your mom? Promise her you'll help out around the house more and maybe she'll consider it, but don't get your hopes up. I'm only 19 but if I was a parent, I wouldn't let my 13 year old kid play M rated games. Why not get a wii U instead?

[QUOTE="DryBomber5"]The black levels aren't that bad on my monitor, though I would agree CRT monitors produce better colors. Either way, I don't think it's fair to say the image quality sucks. And plasma tv's are only good if your viewing distance is far, and not to mention they're expensive as hell. Mozelleple112
Plasma TVs cost half the price of LED Tvs and perform better. If its IPS or TN, the black levels are horrible. If its a VA panel, then the blacks will be decent but colour performance will only be good if its IPS. There really aren't any exceptions.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236123 That's the one I have and the picture is smooth (no motion blur) and has very fast response time. As far as the image quality goes, it looks fine but based on what you said, I must have really low standards since you want to suggest the black levels are "horrible". I'm no expert but I think this is a great monitor for gamers and I would recommend it 100%. Plasma TV's cost half the price of LEDs? Last I checked, plasma TV's are in the $500-700 range, depending on size/specs of course. I don't care what anyone says, that's expensive. Now if you are comparing a 50" plasma with a 50" LED/LCD tv, that's a different story, but I'm not talking about 50" LED tvs now am I? I'm not against plasma tv's, all I'm saying is monitors are an alternative in deciding what to display your gaming consoles on. Plasma tv's are great for gaming but so are monitors depending on your *viewing distance*...

Neither. Instead, you should buy a monitor. Monitors are better because unlike HDTV's, they don't suffer from motion blur and monitors have excellent response time. I have a 25" ASUS for my xbox 360 and it was a HUGE improvement over my 32" samsung LCD hdtv. So I'd definitely consider getting a monitor over an HDTV, the only downside is there is no remote for it and you can't watch tv shows but if you're like me and you plan on using it strictly for gaming, then it shouldn't be a problem.

If you're going to get an HDTV, check the specs. Make sure it has fast respone time (no more than 4ms), high resolution and check reviews/ratings. I like my gaming experience to be smooth and lag-free, so make sure you get the right one.

Yeah, man I'll never forget the first day I played resident evil 4 (one of my favorite games of all times). Good good times...

I don't use the dynamic contrast feature when gaming. I notice waaayyy too much darkening and lightening in dark areas of games. As for the other settings, keep the tint in the middle, and adjust the other settings to your personal preference...superclocked
How do you turn that feature off on a monitor? (This one in particular is the one I have ASUS VE258Q) Because in Skyrim for example, there's an adjustment delay when the image processes from a bright area to a dark area. If you're not sure what I mean, here's a youtube video that shows it. > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0m4ipRBVTo

[QUOTE="superclocked"][QUOTE="DryBomber5"][QUOTE="superclocked"]I got one of these tv's on sale for $299 at Newegg, and everything seemed fine at first. Then I noticed severe ghosting (motion blur) in darker parts of the image when using an HDMI cable. I switched to VGA, and there was no ghosting at all, but all of my longer VGA cables are pretty cheap, so there was noticeable interference. But instead of ordering a good, long VGA cable, I decided to mess around with different resolutions and refresh rates to see if the problem persisted. I reduced the refresh rate at 1080p from 60Hz to 59Hz and bam, no ghosting whatsoever. There was no ghosting at lower resolutions through HDMI either.. But hopefully this will help some people out. Newegg has been selling out of these TV's, even at full price, so I imagine people will be looking for a solution soon. If you're getting severe ghosting through HDMI with this HDTV, simpy reduce the refresh rate to 59Hz or use the VGA port...

My 32" 720p Samsung (60hz, 6ms response time) had extremely bad ghosting/blur, mainly in darker parts of the image as you mentioned. I couldn't take it anymore, so I moved my xbox upstairs in my room to my small SDTV. At least the gameplay was smooth, & yeah the quality was bad but so was the samsung because of all the blur, not to mention how unresponsive it was. So I ended up getting this monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236123 & I recommend it, as a TN gaming monitor for the size and price. If it's to small, then sorry to say but I would go for a plasma.

There isn't any ghosting at 1080p/59Hz, at lower resolutions, or through VGA. It only happens at 1080p/60Hz through HDMI, so I'm just going to hang onto this one, since I can easily get around the ghosting. Thanks though :)

Well I'm just saying, LCD/LED hdtvs in general typically suffer from that kind of stuff, but I guess you picked the right model. Because from what I hear, if you want an HDTV that's big 40"+ then plasma is the way to go. I don't have a plasma, but just from looking at the specs, you'll see what I mean. It all comes down to what model you have, because both types (lcd and plasma) have their pro's and con's.
