I never actually knew the difference between 1080i and 1080p, but I'm pretty sure 1080i is better than 720p. What screen size are you using? If it's small, you will hardly notice a difference.Which resolution provides better image quality? 720p or 1080i?

*UPDATE*
Monitor arrived today, and I have to say, overall I'm very impressed. I hardly noticed any ghosting or blur when playing games, which is a huge positive for me and it was also very responsive. I was a tad disappointed with the quality in general, as it seems to be lacking something (I think it has to do with edge enhancement or sharpness...) but other then that, it looks fantastic.
Anyone who uses a monitor for gaming, is there a preferred setting you recommend? For brightness, sharpness, whatever it may be, please let me know so I can get the best picture for gaming.
P.S - Yes I'm in game mode incase you're wondering.
I know right? It seems like GameSpot has been giving out a ton of low scores lately. A 7.5 for a Zelda game that got a Metascore somewhere in the 90's??
Ive moved from GameSpot reviews to IGN reviews.

Ok now the thing I'm mostly concerned with is issues such as blur, ghosting, lag, etc? Was there any significant issues you noticed when you play video games?I've used an Asus VH242 and it's fantastic See here if you're interested in my journey of monitor evaluation. Tried quite a few different options before making my final choice.
The VH242 was still one of the best for low input latency. It also has the benefit of inbuilt speakers so, if you're playing a game and don't really care about the sound quality, you can just feed it thru there.
Downside was no component inputs.

Well, when it arrives I'll give you my input... I think it will be just fine...
I have a question though. I'm currently using an alienware m14x laptop, and I was wondering if this laptop monitor in particular had a tn or IPS panel? Am I wrong in assuming it's a TN because when I tilt it downward or upward it loses the quality?
Okay so Skyrim came out and I just can't stand playing that game on my 17" standard definition tv (yeah... I know) so I decided I'm gonna invest in a monitor. The reason I'm going with a monitor rather than a small HDTV is because from my understanding, for close up viewing distance, monitors are the way to go and for far back viewing, plasma's are the way to go and I don't have the money nor the room for a plasma so I'm going with a monitor.
Before you start listing some, please consider my preferences below:
1) Screen size - 24-27"
2) Price - Nothing higher than $375
3) IPS or TN panel - I heard IPS panels are better for quality and viewing angles, but TN panels are better for response time (which is important for gamers) so if this is truly the case, please only suggest TN panels unless there is a IPS panel out there (within the price range) that has a good response time.
4) Must not have any significant issues such as motion blur or ghosting.
That's pretty much it. Please feel free to recommend the monitor (or tv as long as it's not a plasma) you currently have as long as it's good.
Thanks!
Lol? That's completely false, it all depends on your viewing distance. Size shouldn't even be a factor in deciding between the two. Check the specs and compare them and also check the ratings/reviews.with tvs, there is one truth....
bigger is better.

[QUOTE="DryBomber5"]Yeah the main one's I check are gamespot, IGN and gametrailers. I was pretty shocked to see GT gave it a 9.3... but that's acceptable, but I just think a 9.0 is way off from what it should've gotten. The other reason I made this post was to check with you guys if there were other flaws in the game other then glitches? I hope there isn't.seankane
Dude, the game isn't absolutely perfect. Its got its flaws. I could sit here and name quite a few of them and things they could do to improve the experience, but to do so without writing 100x that amount about the great stuff would be criminal. Bottom line is that what the game does right completely outweighs any negatives to the point where these flaws are ignored by me for the most part. The improvements over Oblivion are innumerable. There's hardly anything that hasn't been tweaked or completely redone for the better. Its THE definitive open-world, single-player RPG of not only this gen, but all-time. And to further that, its my favorite game ever as of now.
As far as the glitches go, I haven't experienced that many. New Vegas on release was 10x worse, easily. There's definitely some, but nothing thats game-breaking or a bothersome issue. Its minor things. And I'm sure plenty of this stuff will get patched too, if little glitches bother you that much. Some of its actually kinda funny.
Thanks for the input and lastly, do you think your experience with oblivion is better or worse (or about the same) then the experience you're currently having with Skyrim?[QUOTE="DryBomber5"]Agreed, but what I was getting at was that gamespot (as well as other sources like IGN) is a more reliable place to go to check game ratings then what your friend thinks of it, for example. These reviews are from professional gamers who know what makes a good game and we can trust their reviews and rely on them. I mean, I don't think Skyrim deserves a 10 (that's kinda pushing it) but definitely higher then a 9.0...

And thats your opinion. Everybody's got one.
I kinda see what you're saying, cuz a mere 9.0 makes it seem like the game is great, but not as completely awesome as it is, and you want this game you like to be rated in a way that will get it the recognition/sales it deserves. I get that. The wise thing for somebody to do would be to look at multiple reviews, as no one place will ever have the same opinion as you 100% of the time, but unfortunately people dont do that nearly as often as they should. People take singular reviews way too seriously, but fail to realize that not every game will affect somebody in the same way it does yourself.
You, in turn, are taking this review a little too seriously. Overall, its still scored incredibly high on average. Metacritic has it at a 96, which is damn near as high as a game can be expected to score on an average. I think while the Gamespot reviewer may not be as enamored with the game as much as some of us, its still getting the recognition it deserves on a whole. I mean, you may not agree with a 10/10 score, but its gotten lots of them, and I'm inclined to agree with them, as this is such a monumentally addictive and quality title. In fact, I'm regretting writing all this as I could be playing!
