Ah yeah that is like an extreme version of what Crysis did. It's intended to be a feature not a bug but it looks slightly annoying.

Hmm...I'm not sure if there is any easy fix to this.

So basically, everyone else (as far as xbox360/ps3 goes) has to put up with it as well to the same extent? Maybe this only applies to people who have LCD or LED monitor/hdtvs? I'm basically just trying to get to the bottom of it.

I just cant get past the idea of burn in. Id hate to spend $800 on a tv and have it ruined by some Modern Warfare or Saints Row. Id consider an lcd or even led but they are just so much more expensive. I dont care for all the extras like netflix and things, since I already have that on my 360. Any words or encrouagement or suggestions are welcomed.

The burn-in issue doesn't even really exist anymore.

Here's another link that shows what I'm talking about, although this guy might have a more severe case of it and you'll know what I mean when you see it!

[QUOTE="PS2_ROCKS"]I think it was Crysis that had a simulated pupil dilation effect. That is, when you looked at the sun everything became slightly dimmer, and when you walked into a dark room, everything became slightly brighter. It was really smooth and seemed realistic, definitely not annoying. But explain your problem in more detail since the topic title is the only description you have of it.

Here's a couple links that I found on youtube that demonstrates what I'm referring to. 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xg7dLtXfPdo 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i37v0N1LAA&feature=related Now, that doesn't just happen when you look up & down. It happens wherever you move your camera from a lighter area to a darker area. It's mostly a problem when you are outside in the day time (you hardly notice it during the night, but the effect is still there) however I have noticed this even indoors, mainly dungeons and caves. Now don't get me wrong, you may think "that's not a big deal" and you're right, it's not, if I wasn't so picky I probably could just get over it and move on and play the game. But it really ruins the experience for me and according to this ( http://boards.ign.com/teh_vestibule/b5296/206897547/p1/ ) these people seem to like the effect. Now, this is why I came on here because from what I've heard so far, the delayed lighting adjust effect is part of the game but like I said, to the extent that I'm (and probably a lot others) experiencing it, it's way different and this really needs to be addressed. I even noticed this in red dead redemption, although it's very slight and the only way you would notice it is if you try hard to spot it. But as far as Skyrim goes... it's much much worse. What do you recommend I do?

ASCR: Asus Smart Contrast Ratio. It's responsible for changing the contrast ratio on the fly. Turning it off should disable this effect. I'm not sure what to say about that not working...

As for what I use, that is a tricky question.

For PC gaming: a 32" 1080p LG TV. Just something like this.

For console gaming: A CRT Projector (1080i, 110" screen) NEC 9PG+ OR A 21" Compaq P1210 CRT monitor.

The CRT monitor has the best picture all around. I can pump a 1080p signal into it from my PS3 and it is beautiful. The projector is the most immersive and the LCD TV just works. Nice picture, sharp, bright. Typical LCD.

Ok thanks for your feedback, it's unfortunate you don't have the game because I'm not even sure if I'm explaining it right. I just wish other ppl would see this...

With the monitor...change the 'Splendid' mode to anything except Standard or sRGB. Then, in the 'Image' menu, turn ASCR off. I don't have Skyrim, but I'm guessing that's the monitor dynamically adjusting it's contrast levels.PS2_ROCKS
Ok I will go try that right now, thanks for the response. I'll get back to you with the results.

EDIT: It turns out that the ASCR was already off and I was in game mode also. (Not standard or sRGB) I tried turning ASCR on, and I didn't notice a difference at all. What does ASCR mean and what does it do when you turn it off? What other settings do you think could adjust the dynamic contrast levels?

Also, what do you use to display your console games? Is it an HDTV or monitor, what model and is it good for gaming? Any issues?

Appreciate it.

Ok so recently I ordered an Asus VE258Q. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236123

It's a great monitor, except the only issue I have is that there seems to be something wrong with the way it processes bright and dim lighting. I noticed this the most in Skyrim and I hear other people are getting the same thing, and they are saying it's a game thing. Now, I'm not denying that, however, to the extent that I'm experiencing it, I think it's a monitor issue as well because it's pretty bad. I tried configuring with the settings and nothing seemed to fix this. It seems when you turn the brightness all the way up (monitor and game) it makes it less worse, but it's still there and it's extremely annoying. I'm pretty sure it's the monitor, so what I wanted to ask you all was if you are experiencing it as well and if you are, how bad is it? Because it's really bad for me and I want to know what the issue is exactly, whether or not I can do anything to make it go away, and if not, which monitor does not have this issue?

I mean, could it be because it's an LED? I doubt it...

So I got the ASUS VE258Q 25" monitor. Here is a link > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236123

Before I talk about the issues I experienced, I'll start with the positives. For starters, this is a very responsive monitor. It's great for games like CoD and other competitive FPS shooters. The quality is pretty good overall for a TN panel and there's very little ghosting.

However, I have noticed something extremely annoying (For me, it really ruins the experience) and so far I've only experienced it in Skyrim. I've made a post about this but I'm making it again because I want to draw more attention to it and I have other questions...

So here is what I'm referring to. It's not easy to explain but basically when I'm playing Skyrim, and I move from a dark area to a bright area, there is a delay. (Example, if it was day time in Skyrim and I looked up at the sky, it would take a while for the monitor to adjust to the right brightness/lighting to display the sky. Then when I look back down, same delay) On the other post, the guy told me it had to do with HDR lightning and it was the game, not the monitor. Now I don't know if he's right, but to the extent that I'm experiencing it, I doubt it. So what I wanna know is, what is the cause of this annoying delay I'm experiencing? Is it the refresh rate? Please let me know, and recommend a monitor that is better then the one I have that won't have this issue.

Also, I ordered this off bestbuy. If I wanted to return it, how exactly would I do it?

This is part of HDR lighting. It's an effect which simulates the way your eye (and cameras) automatically adjusts aperture when going from a very brightly lit place to a very dark place, and vice versa, to compensate for the change in brightness.

Ever walked from a very bright outdoor sunny place into a very dark room? It takes your eyes a second to adjust to the brightness. That's what it's simulating.

It's intentional and has nothing to do with your monitor. It's part of the game.

broken_bass_bin
Well that's good to hear, and you must be right because it only does this in certain games such as Skyrim and others. It's kind of annoying but I guess I'll have to get used to it. Do you also have a monitor and experience the same thing?

Hi, my Asus ve258q monitor finally arrived a couple days ago and I'm loving it. There's hardly any ghosting or blur, and its very responsive. However, I have been noticing something...

I'm not quite sure how to explain it, but I do wanna know what the cause of it is and if there's anything I can do about it.

Okay, now I noticed this mostly with Skyrim but also with other games. (Not so much with CoD) Okay so, it was day time and I was walking in Skyrim and when I looked up at the clouds and sun, there was like a delay because the monitor had to adjust to the right settings to properly display it. Then when I looked back down, same thing... there was a strange delay. If you kinda get an idea what I mean, please tell me what the cause of this might be and what I could do about it and if you don't, let me know and I'll try to explain it.
