All fairness, PS3 is a pretty darn good console. HDMI, 1080p games, Lair, MGS, Final Fantasy 13 and so on. However, PS3 is being held back by the bumbling idiots at Sony. Seriously, had I not witnessed the PS2's success in my lifetime I would have never believed a Sony marketted product had dominated the console market. Kaz Hurai at E306 did a fantastic job of telling you how abhorrantly expensive the PS3 is, and he gave an unthinkably convincing list of reasons why you SHOULD NOT buy the PS3. Ken Katarugi has now done the same. Instead of reinforcing the strengths of the PS3 and talking about its solid (of not sparse) game lineup, Ken gave a nice talk about his childhood and all the things PS3 does that noboy really cares about. Its fantastic that the cell cure's cancer, but thats not the major selling point of the console for anyone.
Sony needs to realize, people are buying the PS3 not because of Blu Ray, not because it's Kens or Kaz's greatest dream come true, not because it has Giant Enemy Crabs with weakpoints for massive damage and not because it plays African nature simulators. People are buying the PS3 because inspite of all else, it's a gaming console, and its a playstation with playstation franchises that people have come to know and love. Gran Turismo, Socom, Final Fantasy....alll ledgendary names in the gaming world, all completely ignored by Ken and his intolerable ignorance.
If PS3 fails this generation, you can bet your life that its Sony's fault because they cant market it. If your average consumer had watched the keynotes from E3 and TGS, they would probably not realize just how much the PS3 really does have to offer. Sony has done a fantastic job of burying themselves with irrelevance, lies, delays and flat out ignorance. Its hard to market, harder than 99% of people will ever realize, but screwing it up only screws the people who have a stake, who are in a word, Sony.
